Bad idea.

To be honest, since I force daylight, the moon would be a waste... And I hardly ever stare at the sky, so I only see the sun now and then.

Waste of money!

Just make sure your giant moon-carving laser is well protected and doesn't get interrupted halfway through your advertisement by superheros...

Using the sun or moon? That's a terrible idea!

Use the reflections! They are much easier to see. Put the ad copy upside-down on the sun or moon for maximum effect in the reflection.

Replace the weather system with a system like google uses to cycle through ads.

AHah so Nasa can no longer have any logo's on their shuttle. Or any other company with a satalite. I bet it doesn't say anything about smaller size. :p
And technically all things have gravity :) No matter where.
At least a little. Hmm
I just like twisting their laws around to see what kind of trouble you can make. :p

... The mere fact we have to make a LAW not to shove giant, glowing signs in LEO really says a lot about the human race.

No! Didn't Chairface Chippendale try that already? Thank the gods The Tick stopped him after only three letters!

I remember last year, on this very night, I was eight days old and sitting in my free apartment provided by Tiger Crossing, with glass walls and a lovely view of the water.

I didn't know how to force daylight, and the moon had come up. In it was a sihlouette of a couple. I watched that moon slowly move across the sky, and, though I was all alone (well, my husband irl was in the other room), I just loved the romantic feeling it gave me. Very peaceful, and in fact, I will never forget that night.

Today I read something about "Private Islands" in the sun? As a sort of subliminal message? I think if that is so, it is not nearly as nice as what I experienced last year.

I think they should leave the sun and the moon to more meaningingful (MLK) or whimsical (the Feb. 14th couple) causes. Those were fun and wonderful surprises. But never use them for advertising purposes. Those aren't.

Hmm... you sure there isnt a way to do this already? The texture for the sun may be located in viewerart.ini, but Im probably wrong. It would be awesome though - being able to customize the look of the sun on my land - I would be able to make it into a cookie :D

If it is a static texture (like the mouselook crosshairs), it can be changed using llParcelMediaCommandList

I think its a terrible idea since nobody usually looks up or they always force daylight (me), maybe if it was like in the horizon? like the end of the sim, where it only shows water, maybe some signs there?

Well, they don't push for it right now, so I wonder why ppl do not take full advantage of this. Not billboards in space, of course. We cannot build that high. But up above the clouds so as it's visible from the map. People do do it, but on a small scale. But how about large scale? How about a 2x2 sim billboard hovering over the old mainland? That'd be VERY effective advertisement. People pay 20-25k for a (probable) top spot in the Classifieds. I bet they'd pay much more for something like that. Or what about the land barons? They own huge tracts of land that goes unused for months in many cases. They could build something analogous to the million dollar webpages that have sprang up lately. Each plot that they're selling could have a billboard ad hovering above it. As long as the land remains unsold, the billboard could be generating some income to offset the tier payments. When the plot gets sold, the billboard is returned. For the rest of us, that would have the nice side effect of lowering the land prices. Anyway, one can go on and on with things like these.

I saw the moon with its message, and it didn't strike me as an advertisement. It was just the words Private Island, on the moon, and it seemed to be a (fairly weak) joke that the moon was a private island.
