I haven't been able to figure out how to steal textures with the eyedropper tool.
In my defense, I have only spent ten or fifteen minutes at it.
I guess it could be lack of motivation, I have the GL texture capture thing, so if I wanted to steal textures I could.
Does my inability to figure out how to use the eyedropper tool for texture ripping indicate there is some kind of problem with my brain?

Good job letting the entirety of the grid know what you're up to, dear.

well, there are indications that something is wrong with your brain... but that's not one of them.

The eyedropper will only take parts of textures that you have full permissions on or you made.

I'm not accusing, just honestly confused here. The GL texture capture thingy is for the purpose of capturing textures right? So if you're not planning to capture textures, why have it? Oh and I haven't explored the dropper myself but I'm really hoping no one is foolish enough to describe how it works here.

I'm foolish enough to. You begin by taking out your eye and dropping it into a tortured prim, the rest you can figure out from there. Seriously, you're not going to hear it from me here. I've only disclosed it by IM to those of repute who were helping investigate.

Your response is very silly. I have the means of stealing textures using that program that intercepts OpenGl information. I can't remember the name of the program because I haven't used it once I tried it out and verified that, yes indeed, you can get all the textures seen in SL very easily. What bugs me is that I can't solve the eyedropper puzzle. I don't want to steal textures, I like solving puzzles. There must a category of puzzle that I am just really bad at, and this must be in that category. And no, don't post the answer to the eyedropper puzzle here.

The response is kneejerk; people with the option to steal expensive textures have temptation.
If this isn't the case, I apologise, but... ah. You can understand my point, I'm sure.
It may be that the eyedropper thing works for some and not others. No idea. Don't want to know.

Here's a hint - its easier than you probably think it is.

Has there been any Linden acknowedgement of this problem?
It's not in the list of bug fixes for the next upgrade, is it?

From: Zero Alito Has there been any Linden acknowedgement of this problem? It's not in the list of bug fixes for the next upgrade, is it? Not yet, as far as I know. Aodhan posted in Answers about it, no response yet. I recieved an IM for someone who realised there was a problem much sooner after the update, and tried to speak to Lindens. Their responses seemed to indicate they were unaware of what was possible, and believed it was working correctly. Aodhan was able to copy a texture that only I have in my inventory, with no permissions on the texture or the prim.

To be more precise I didn't copy the texture however I got it to the point where I was sure it could be copied. I'm not at all surprised if other people find it, what I am surprised at is that the Lindens are unaware of what is possible. The only thing I can think of is that the reporter did not push it and document it to the point where Lindens will realize the problem. We've sent a bug report and labeled it "Exploit" since Torley hasn't answered yet. I do hope it gets to their attention.

Yes, it wasn't documented or described to the extent you are able to, so hopefully that will have more impact.

Actually, it's a programmer's debug tool with many, many more uses than that. Most of them necessary and good uses, at that. The only time the texture-capturing function would be a worry... is a situation like SL, really. As moddable as most games are nowadays, getting textures is hardly an issue there.
