Hey, one of my best friends is a robot!

Actually, he's an android, it's a skin and not made of prims, and it looks feckin' brilliant.

Does anybody know where I can get a Rosie the Robot from "The Jetsons?" That's what we really want. Set her loose in the house, keep it clean, and then when we come home ...

"How are ya, Mr. C?"

:)

(Actually, I seriously want one. It'd be a nice surprise for my partner.)

Visit Foo island, Sean. I've seen one there.

I think I am going to be an adovcator against ppl that dress up as a robot!
The evil of this is overwhelming! By doing this, ppl are showing a misunderstanding of their feelings and are attempting to distance themselves from emotions and those around them..

Sounds good huh?

speaking of which, where can i get a cute robot avi?

Hate on people who use the term "hate on"!

The real danger is that after getting a taste of it in SL, it will inevitably carry over to RL.

You say that now; but will you still be smiling when they transfer you to a job on the assembly line?

Thanks Jonas for your vote!

What they mean is that the Mechmind avatars are all based upon an animal. There's a wolf, tiger, horse, and raven so far.

I'm not sure if C-Tech makes mechs, but I have seen parts of cyborg-ish looking armor from Compulsion so I suppose she makes a full suit too.

Kage Seraph makes a lot of mechs too; His are the big ones you've probably seen around.

IronRaptor also makes animal-oriented mechs, and there are a bunch of Transformer-style mechs out there -- though I can't say who is the creator of those.

A good way to find robot avatars is to pull up find, go to Places, and type in robot or mech. :)

I don't think Compulsion makes actual robots, but she makes some sweet sweet full armor suits that you could probably pass off as a robot.

Also, there's a place selling some giant Transformer robots right next door to C-Tech. Just don't buy their angel wings. I bought a set cause they looked cool but when you wear them they send script perfs on the simulator up into the 300,000 range. Each wing is like 200 prims and apparently each prim in each wing has a very rapid timer script in it to go vis/invis when flying or not AND a listener on channel 0 for changing color. Every prim. Not kidding. I messaged them with a helpful suggestion on how to fix it, but I don't know if it's gotten done yet. :p I also typoed a color on them once and got spammed with 400ish 'invalid color' messages from every prim. I carefully tucked the wings away in a folder marked 'never, ever use these.'

Erf. This is almost criminal when it comes to sim-resource efficiency. While I see why they might've done this for response speed, it puts a serious load on the sim.

I'm not too happy with the RavenMech, which has 300-something prims in its winged body. All of the wing-prims have a script that alternates between visible/invisible when you switch from flying to landing mode, but that's handled via link-messages. Color changes are implied via a root-prim script that sets the prim colors individually in a loop. This means color changes occur slowly (in very slow sims, it sometimes takes up to 30 seconds for all those prims to stabilize!) but I felt it was an acceptable tradeoff. Also, the wing-prim scripts are very lightweight, just a simple alpha command and a link message and all the wing on/off logic is handled by the root prim. I also added a bit of hysteresis to the wing on/off system so that you wouldn't be flipping a ton of prim alpha changes whenever you just accidently tapped the fly-up button for a jump...

I was tempted to use textures for the wings, but god, those individual-prim feathers look nice. ^_^

Its gorgeous. Not only does theavatar change color prim by prim, visibly, but the wings don't cause lag. Ravenmech its -the- best mechanical avatar in my mind. Period.

And in case you worry - its hands remain completely free. Want to scare someone? Use this av weilding twin lawgivers.

Whats wrong with robots??

I actually like robot models thay seem to be somewhat appealing to me as long as it has two legs standing and two arms. Anyone heard of a game called Scrapland?

And easier to bip and animate as well.
