I like the updates. They give me time to actually do things I need to do before settling into my chair for a long session of SL. For instance, I start the update download, then go to the bathroom.. then I come back and approve the installation, then I go to the kitchen for a glass of water. By the time I'm back to the chair, I'm ready to log-in to SL again. Big whoop.

You know if they weren't always on the same day Dote, I'd agree.

But as it is they completely kill a day, and with this update for NO appreciable value.

Maybe if they put the update periods right bam in the middle of your best time to get on in the week, you'd think different.

To you maybe, some of those changes are going to be appreciated by others though.

Then let it hit the time off of those who will appreciate it. Sounds afar MORE reasonable..
Simply pull the data on those who wanted the change. Get their joint busiest time. Tada! Update time.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the downtime... I'm usually asleep or heading to work from 10a-3p my time. But, I think LL decided to create an official update/downtime day so that people would half-expect it, instead of needing to work around it unexpectedly. May now you can plan something extra to do on Wednesdays during downtime (since it's a couple times per month). Then, if SL is down, you still have something to do during that time, and if it's not, you can get into SL and have fun!

For instance, if you do textures, save your Photoshop sessions for Wednesdays.

I take issue with this statement. First, it is not an opinion, it is an onomotopoetic represention of singing nonsense syllables, or perhaps the sounds associated with the musical scale, not an opinion. Secondly, it was typed, then underwent various conversions to appear as a pattern of dots on a screen for subsequent interpretation by human visual systems. There was no voicing involved at all.

I think its a good thing, updates and fixes to old bugs are needed. If LL needs to update on a regular basis to make the client run like butter. I'm all for it. Besides its a good time to do laundry :D

I take issue with this statement. The phrase "tra la la" (I added the extra "la" myself - aren't I original :p) can be used as a spoken phrase with no musical tone, other than that naturally occurent in the speaker's voice, in the same vein as "whoop ti do"; in order to indicate irreverent indifference.

I take issue with these statements. The OP was obviously expecting a response mediated by a keyboard, various circuitry and an interpreted visual pattern due to the nature of the virtual location the question was asked in and thus was obviously using the term "voiced" in a metaphorical way.

You mean it's the equivalent of the pie option on polls?

Why did you ask our opinion? You're not interested in our opinion. You've expressed your opinion on the issue plenty of times already, and so have we.

Which doesn't work any better here than it does on the primative natives of Hoobagaloo

Speaking on behalf of my fellow Hoobagalooations I take issue to that statement, even though it was correct it assumes we all conform to the perceived stereotype.

It's obvious AJ deliberately left out 2 crucial letters in order to confuse you not me !

Making nighttime brighter--I'm looking forward to that, especially because of all the photos that got blotched out because of a lack of contrast when forcing of daylight wasn't done (and even then, it begs the question: why have night at all?).

That sounds more like a need for people to take responsibility than an update Torley. Why should the program babysit those who can't do a simple command if they -see- its night.

And here I thought night was -supposed- to be less lit and all..you know, being nighttime. I guess I was wrong.

Just give people the toption of setting a time of day-and have it stick..no constant updating individuals skylines, less server lag, less resource use.

That would be a FAR better use for an update than making night 'brighter.'

An update I wouldn't complain about.

Or maybe just put out the 1.9.0 that was previewed.. why bother with 1.8.4

Edit:Keepign night permanent may appeal as much to goths and vamps as keeping day permanent does to many...

I'm really looking forward to this! But, it's part of the branching process. It all gets merged--e.g. you may have noticed that new Buy Land isn't in the Preview 1.9 yet.

I'm just curious. Where in the world is the OP of this thread located. Don't be specific, just the time zone.

I don't mind the updates, because I'm at work when they happen. Of course, we all can't be that lucky. SL, by nature is a PST time world.

BTW, if you want infrequent updates, this is right up your alley. :D

I'm located in the USA..east coast time.

The updates hit from 10am-3pm in time, on the first day I have off of two a week.

Time when I would enjoy relaxing..I really don't mind if we switch wednesday and thrusday back and forth.. it may still hit me personally as bad during downtime, but it will alleviate the singular downtime for others whos thursdays may not be completely open for SL anyway.

Jonas and I should really start a "No Updating on Wednesday" group hehe. I am also in the same time zone.

I'm upset about Wednesday updates, but there is nada I can do about it. If they are not every week then fine, but I wish they were rotated. I thoroughly enjoyed last wednesday when there was no update. It was the first time in 5 weeks where there wasn't an update. I was able to get a lot done and see friends I don't see at night often, which is very important to me.

I find the frequent updates reassuring. Its a sign that SL is doing well.

Nearly 3 years ago, just before I started SL beta, I was playing Motor City Online. For those of who are unfamilliar with MCO, it was a street racing MMOG where you raced classic cars from the 1930's thru the early 1970's. Along with the racing, there was an in-game economy which dealt with custom parts and cars. It was a very fun game at first, but stagnation set in. No content or feature updates for months.

There was talk of MCO developers being pulled away from MCO to work on The Sims Online. People were finding new ways to cheat the system. Inflation hit the economy hard. The MCO forums were full of pleas for new content, but aside from one dev slipping in a few "unsanctioned" features for a week, we saw nothing new.

Suddenly, we got a flood of new parts, and a couple of new tracks. People were happy. Then, the other shoe dropped. EA announced that MCO would shut down in 6 months. We were offered discounts on TSO. Some of us were around right up to the end. About 2 months into the lame duck era of MCO, I found SL. I looked in occasionally, and I came back the last night to do a few runs on my favorite tracks. I still miss the Spillway and my collection of 1965 Mustangs.

My point: When new features are few and far between, its a bad sign. 2 years ago, There threatened to stop updating the game client so they could focus on developing a 3D platform. The result was a mass exodus to SL. It may not be convenient for all of us, but it is still a good sign.
