There's a difference between dressing up in a furry av, and the 'hardcore' furries who really believe they are an animal trapped in a human body, and SL gives them an opportunity to live out their 'real fursona'.

I don't understand how or why people can think they are an animal trapped in a human body - but it doesn't bother me because it doesn't affect me.

SL is a massive exercise in tolerance. It's a living hell for those who are intolerant and an unending treat for the eyes for those who like to see such diversity.

SL is a shared dreamspace where people can choose what they want to be: themselves, a furry, a gorean, anime character, stuffed toy, insect, elf, machine, or even furniture (YES there is someone who says one of her avies is a chair).

Except for basic decency rules like human nudity there's no rule declaring how one must look like. You don't have to look like yourself, you don't have to be your gender, you don't have to even be your species.

Be anything.

The sooner you accept the presence of others' dreamspaces, the happier things get.

Seriously though, I have yet to meet a furry who considered themselves a seperate human race and I've been to AnthroCon with roughly 2000+ other furries. We're a fandom much like anime otaku. And not all furries consider themselves spiritually linked with an animal, for many this is simply role playing like D&D or ShadowRun.

And to explain furry haters its simple, its in human nature to fear what one doesn't understand and its a defensive mechanism to attack what they fear. That and the socially deprived that feel they must bully someone to feel higher up on the social totem pole.

All facts aside - seriously - wtf is up with people who lack tolerance hopping into such an obvious conflicting situation that SL is in such a relation?

In passing, I would like to point out that Tommy here is but one single whiner in SL, and does not speak for anyone worth listening to.

Also, the furry community numbers in the hundreds, and Tommy seems to be but one lonely person looking for friends.

I have no idea whatsoever. But boy the forums really have a way of drawing the intolerant people out of the woodwork. I normally try to stay away from their threads because they usually close their ears so there's no point in talking to them.

For the record, all the furries I've met have been very nice to me, and I am not a furry, my only publicly seen avatar is a human male with cybernetic right arm.

Wait, I figured it out. It's the concept of gravitating towards your dominant thoughts. If you are an intolerant person the dominant thought in your subconscious is that which you hate. You will subconsciously gravitate towards situations where your intolerance can be exercised.

The more you say I hate X, the more often you will encounter X. The subconscious is incapable of recognizing the negation that "hate" represents, it only sees the X.

I need to find a woman like that.
