Second Life on CBS Evening News

I was watching a movie and on the other tv I noticed second life. At first I thought my dad was playing it but it was a story about Second LIfe on CBS! Didn't see all of it (maybe the last minute). I'm sure if you check CBS website you could find it. I did see how they talked to "Philip" I believe, didn't catch the whole name. Just thought I would inform the community and congratulate Linden Labs! Great Job!

Nice find Roseann Wacky is talking about a seperate piece that just aired on the CBS Evening News, and its supposed to be up online by tomorrow for anyone on the east coast (or non-US) that missed it. I'll post the link as soon as I get it.

My mom caught the broadcast and I think it explained more to her about what I do for a living than anything I've been able to convey. Thanks CBS

I saw that on CBS evening news also, right at the end of the news they where talking about virtual worlds and it was about Second Life I can't find the right link on it now :/

Amusing.. they get facts wrong but it's all on the side of more hype for SL ;0

Quite an interesting little piece once I'd sat through the hard-sell for heartburn medicine. Has the BBC ever done a TV news piece on SL? I know Radio 1 are pissing about with private islands... just wondered if News had bothered.

BBC's Newsnight did a piece back in January, and Paul Mason also had another report on his blog about SL.

That wedding scene was Stroker Serpentine & Fyre Raine's actual SL Wedding with me officiating !
Didn't they look GORGEOUS !

So when SL makes it onto TV, do they need to get signed releases?

I can't wait to see something like "Cops, in SL" with avatar's faces blocked out.

I'm guessing that the in-world video shown was either of stuff done by Lindens (as in Catherine Linden showing the reporter around her build in the Linden sim), or stock video (like the "Silver Spurs" or whatever the name of that Bedazzled western video is, and the wedding shot Baccara mentioned) that the creators have allowed Lindens to use for promotional means. The clothing creator interviewed in the piece (and it's obvious whom it is, to anybody who has been around a while) showed some of her own stuff, ostensibly used, I would assume, with her permission.

What I thought was hilarious was the end remark by a bemused Bob Schaeffer that he wants to be a "wild animal" (i.e. a furry) in SL.

The in world video was shot by CBS with help from some of our really terrific technical people who seem to do it better than they do-

The wedding shots were actually filled in for them by Pierce Portocarrero who was luckily there to bail them out !

BTW- I kinda wish they made the distinction about the Chinese guy killing his buddy over that sword was NOT playing SL.

This type of PR is great........It reflecks a better image then say well never mind.

PR is like Wine the better the REFINER is, the better the out comes.
I seen alot of PR stunts on sl and I say 70% SUCKED. The Non inside (GAME) PR screwups like the Cnet piece were good, the MTV well.... But this piece I say is better then the rest.

Cool clip. I also have a suspicion that we got to see Torley.

My only comment is that those who were not previously aware of the story might think the sword murder in China happened in second life. This despite the background video that shows the involved game (Legend of Mir II?).

I wonder if we'll see another round of mass sign-ups now.

Who is the anchor's avatar?

Where is the CBS studio in-world?

The av was run by me while Makaio grabbed the shot and added in the facial mapping with the audio track. I say "run" when I kinda just sat there and stared at a box out of the shot.

The set is currently residing in the depths of Mak's inventory, although if CBS would like it set up inworld I don't think it should be a problem

I like the contrast between the smooth graphics on whatever computers the CBS are using and the choppy, low-res BBC animation - you can tell what computers our licence fee pays for
