Was pretty amazed, not to say pretty freaked out, as a newbie, to see peronal lats online simultaneously, talking to each other and exchanging L$ and inventory. Not sure how this is done, so can somebody explain this interesting SL phenomena?

You just need to alter (pun intended) the target in properties on the client icon (add '-multiple', I believe), and then you can run many instances of SL, each with a different avatar. |

Yes they must be different avatars.
It would be fun if you could do two of the same. _____________________

In Windows systems, add -multiple to the target field of the shortcut that starts SL.
In a default installation of SL on a windows system the target field of the SL shortcut is "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -multiple _____________________

Just remember if you load lots of SL at once, it may make your video card explode.

For some people, having multiple alts on together is the only way they can get any avie sex.

Could you explain a little less technically for the computer dumb? I'd like to try this, but I don't understand exactly what you're saying to do here. _____________________

If you right-click the SL icon on your desktop, select 'properties', and then select the 'shortcut' tab. you need to add -multiple to the end of the target path. e.g "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -multiple |

Or, if you want to be really clever you can do ... "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\secondlife.exe" -multiple -login firstname lastname password Wow, that's super cleaver. _____________________

I bought one of those "super cleavers" but no one would wear the AO to let me cut them in half!

The -multiple thing is VERY crashy. If you do, cut down your bandwidth and video memory BEFORE you do it, and you will crash less often.
Better yet, (the way we do it in my household) sign in on multiple computers. Many households have networked computers. I often use my lag-top and my desktop at the same time. _____________________

How'd you know they were alts?
Unless you're up to something RP-like, you don't generally need your alt(s) online at once for housekeeping. Need them on once to exchange friendship, then it's easy to send inventory, money, whatever. _____________________

Sure if you are only exchanging one or two things... but when you are dropping a bunch of inv between chars... the IM emails get spammmmmmy. _____________________

Or, if you want to be really clever you can do ... "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\secondlife.exe" -multiple -login firstname lastname password I can do 'cleverer' than that, and everyone should try this one, it so rawks and would make you uber clever: Whilst in world, click 'search'. type in 'hiro queso' and then click the little blue search button. Click 'pay' on the profile, and then type in '10000000'. Click the little pay button, and hey presto! |

Wow, I tried that, but I didn't have any money so it didn't work! can someone pass me L$10,000,000 so I can try this please? Well if you type in a number that you can afford, that not only demonstrates your uber-cleverness, but it also displays how highly adapatable you are. |
