A couple months ago I was in Montmartre and there were all these freaky cool things- a weird castle, a bench that flew all over the place with fire coming out of it, and a cannon that shot an avi across the sim.
now it's a sandbox.
Anyone know what happened? And if all that stuff moved somewhere?

Yeah, I noticed that. It used to be an artists conclave or something, then I noticed it'd become a junkyard with some crappy sex stores a while back. Maybe the sim got sold.

If it is a sandbox that doesn't autodelete one might be able to make some cool things and leave them out, or make them a drop by and put them back as they feel like it.

Was Montmarte where the "Quiz" trivia game was held?

Yes, Montmartre was sold since the original owner could no longer carry the cost. Thanks to all Artistes for the fun we had and to Mae for paying for it

Montmartre previously belonged to Mae Best. She had to cut back her involvement in SL (possibly leave entirely, I'm not sure).

I for one am very saddened by the loss of Montmartre. Talk about a fantastic sim that really inspired you as to what you could do in SL. It will be sorely missed.

Montmartre is under new management
12-20-2005 16:09
In the last few days I purchased Montmartre from Mae Best.
I'm sorry Mae decided to sell her sim. I miss her Knot Another Quizes. I feel honored to be able to buy Montmartre.
There are new plans for the sim including lakes and a wilderness area. I'll say more on that as the project develops.

I agree Cory...it was definitely the most unique and memorable sim I've ever visited...and it's too bad it no longer exists as it once did!

Gus,
I've got old..very old Montmartre pictures if you want them. It was a magnificent place, my heart will always be there, with the Artistes and the Gardiens.
Mae will be sorely missed, by so many. She was a generous soul and I'm sorry we parted on such rough terms.
peace and brownies

I'd love to see those pics, Jase! (Bug says, "hi to cookiejase!" I miss Maesy's quizzes, and everyday life as part of the community of Artistes Mae built on Montmartre. The quiz was often the highlight of my day. I know I wasn't the only one who'd arrange my RL schedule to be sure I could attend. The usual gang would show up, some hanging their seats in the air behind the back row, all the running jokes, quick and hilarious banter, Mae's amazing stock of trivia, the bonus question provided by her brilliant kiddo, Snow Bugs chattering away and demanding cookies, spider references (hide the bug spray and the swatters!). We were so lucky that Mae hosted this wonderful gathering -- so much more than a trivia quiz -- up to six nights a week for a year. What a run! And I miss meeting with the other Artistes at the Cafe -- especially morning coffee -- and dreaming up great new things to build together and wandering around the island to see what was new and stumbling across artistic treasures. And all the amazing contest entries, and the couple of times when Maesy enabled damage so we could kick some griefer's booty, and the big snowball fight, and the barn dance, and . . . oh, so many good times! I wonder how many amazing things wouldn't have been created if Mae hadn't provided both the space and the *encouragement* all of us needed. She sure gave me a lot of help when I was a newbie, and I saw her do the same for so many. Thank you, Maesy, for everything. I wish Montmartre could have gone on forever as it was. But since Mae had to let it go, I'm glad Gus was able to buy it. He's got some wonderful, innovative plans for the island, and I'm looking forward to helping him to build them. It's gonna be pretty cool!

in the meantime, is the sim for rent?
12-22-2005 11:37
I've not yet visited, but get the impression that the sim is "between artists" ... if so, is it for rent?

The sim is currently available as a sandbox. We may clear the sim anytime after the new year. Don't sell or market anything in the sim.

Yes it was great place to be. I spent more time there than most always welcomeing the newbies and showing off the toy's, It was a great place while it lasted. Thank you Mae Best For footing the bill. Great people great fun. Wish Mae All the Best. In whatever she does next. The rocket powerd lawnchair was mine you can still find one in hawthorne in Chases Manhattan area it goes to the museum there. Also the bleachers at the snail races use the same technology.I moved the Giant Snail races across the river to " The future "sim there's a lot of cool stuff in the future sim just have to look. The barn with stuff for sale inside was a few peoples things mine moved across the river to the future sim If you right click the green arrow with the snail on it then look behind the bleachers you'll find my venders. The Museum moved too not sure if it's set up yet.

The Crescent Moon Museum
12-23-2005 17:49
Ahhhhh....the memories of Montmartre They will never be forgotten. Mae was a wonderful leader and mentor for us all. She will be back Im hoping in full force I talk to her thru IMs. Her and her new SL partner Zara are doing well. A sad day for everyone when Montmartre was no longer its old self. Im sure Gus has amazing Ideas for a New Montmartre and I cant wait to see them! Thanks to everyone that contributed to Montmatre and the Crescent Moon Museum and everyone that participated in the snail races and trivia events! The Crescent Moon Museum will be re-opening in Taber shortly after Christmas. I will post in forums when it is open again I MUST thank Pituca and Garth for offering an area at Taber for the re-opening of the museum . What wonderful people they are, as Mae was for allowing me to open it at Montmartre. God Bless You All, and Merry Christmas! Tayzia Abattoir

Thank you to all concerned parties
12-24-2005 12:42
I do deeply regret having to have sold Montmartre due to long term ongoing technical errors in the Sim server. I have begged, pleaded, and threatened the LL to please fix the bugs which have plagued Montmartre since Sept of last year. I was told by a Linden Labs employee that it is a scripting error in the server. Linden Labs promised me a new server last December and failed to keep that agreement. The most recent ambush of technical errors had made it impossible for me to use the island for 7 weeks. It was a matter of dollars and common sense to sale that which is unusable to me. I am offended and hurt that such ugly and harsh rumors of financial despair should arise from an already upsetting situation.
I would like to thank Gus for taking the White Elephant from my shoulders, I wish him the best of luck and will do whatever I can to help him make his Sim a success. I would like to thank Tayzia for having supplied us with the Crescent Museum and its art over the last year. A special thanks and huge hugs to RacerX who has entertained me for hours with his quirky inventions and who supported Montmartre by doing weekly events, the giant snail races. A personal note to Zara, Thank you for watching over me, taking care of me and showing me you care.
Thank you to the Montmartre Artistes who made her my home for a year and a half.
I myself am perfectly content to kick back and relax with my partner Zara who has supported my decide.
Oh and yes, I did steal my daughters Avatar and I live under that name now.

We will need the south end of the sim for a New Years party. Please concentrate activities in other parts of the sim.

Anything I can do
12-24-2005 15:45
Ms. Mae has been a guiding light in the darkness... Montmartre was the only real reason for me to be or continue to be in SL. I know that the spirit of MM will never go away. Anything that I can do to help with the transition, I will. Gus, I know that you will guard and keep the MM spirit alive... with Kim's help of course. Mae, thank you for offering us a place to do what we wanted and offering so much to SL. You are a beautiful soul, and I am blessed to be even the smallest part of your world. You taught me everything I know in SL... I bow to you. Thank you. Montmartre will always be, in some form, in our hearts and minds.
