Hmmm, I haven't used a camping chair since about a month past my birth date. There are so many ways to make money: work for an established business, buy it with US$, build and sell, hell you can even buy things from yard sales that are under priced and sell it for more, the list goes on in my mind. However, the most ludicrous thing about this post is the idea that someone logs in 3 computers and collects money in SL, while they go watch their shows in RL!?!?!?!? You need a reality check hon, both your lives are boring with a capital "B".

This person either needs to be on the teen grid waiting for high school to start again, or is a bored housewife who needs to learn the thrills of SL escorting -- add a little spice and "earn" some money.

There's one other possibility, which in this case is the truth. Hooch is being humorously sarcastic. Take a good look at the poll choices.

Well, it reduced them a bit.

Unfortunately, popularity of a parcel is gauged only on traffic, and while some places will have higher traffic ratings due to quality content, the unfortunate reality is that the majority of them are based on number of camping chairs/pads and their payout figures.

There is no real way to rid SL of camping chairs without removing LSL functions required for most of the other content in SL, but it would certainly kill a large portion of them if LL would begin looking at using a resident rating system. Popularity of a location should not be based on the number of people wasting system resources. It should be based on popularity of a location.

A valid use of a camping style script would be paying an employee for their time in a location. That sort of thing I would have no issue with. But paying people to leave their PC logged in while they are sleeping, or at work, is no different than paying someone to steal your cable.

Not happy about Linden Labs purchase of XStreet (formerly SLX) and OnRez. Will this mean LL will ban resident run online shoping outlets in favor of their own?

All of you who took this thread seriously need to report to my office ASAP for a vigorous pounding with a rubber mallet. That is all.

Oh yeah OK, ban camping huh, why?, only the people that is rich in game don't give a shit about us trying to make L$ the best way we can. You can talk now huh cause you got the L$ you want right??? but when you first came to SL i bet you was a camper.

I'm not rich by any means.

I've also never spent one minute sitting on a dumb camping chair to earn L$1 every 10 minutes.

I spent 3 years watching Sims Online destroyed by people paying others to visit in order to make their otherwise mediocre property look better than it is by artificially inflating its visitor numbers, and I see exactly the same thing happening here.

How did I make my money? I build stuff, occasionally sell things, I buy it on Lindex when I need it.

Making money "the best way you can" is attending classes, learning how to do stuff, and creating things for others to enjoy or buy. Far more rewarding than plonking your avatar in a camping chair and going to bed.

Hehe, this thread gave me a chuckle...

This thread also made me curious- How much does it cost to actually run a camping computer?

For energy consumption uses, I found a site that benchmarked power used by various computers and saw that running a system comparable to mine running SL with the monitor in standby would probably be generating about 120w.

Math is far from my forte', however I think this would be the formula:
((computer watt use * 24) / 1000) * $ per Kilowatt Hour = Daily Electric Cost

So taking my average electricity cost of 11.33 cents per kWh..

((120 * 24) / 1000) * .1133 = US$00.3263 a day

Using the current LindeX buy rate of L$302 = US$1, you could buy L$98 for the money you spent keeping your computer powered up all day.

But Unlike some that does pay for their own bills ( yes mine has gone up even playing as a nornmal player over the couse of my time on sl) You have modem, monitor, computer for ONE COMPUTER image what it is for three? Sorry but the numbers ( MIGHT) look that way but your not aveage wear and ter on the system itself. Wel then again I don`t sit in the chair and why should I. There will be people saying I DON`T useanymore then i first started bla bla bla. WOW good for you! Say what you may but it might be your tv or other devices you use to use during the useage of you useing the computer(s)

Yeah, I ran the numbers for my area a while back. Except I used an average desktop wattage, rather than a laptop (120W is a laptop I'm guessing?). The average desktop is about twice that, assuming it's got a decent load of hardware in it. And then you have to consider the monitor(s), I have a 20" CRT and a 17" CRT on my desktop that don't seem to have their wattage on them, sigh.

I can run an account in the background if I wish, while still using the computer, with no discernable effect on usability.

The cost to be to be weighed is thus not the cost of running the computer, which I leave on 24/7 anyway; it's the marginal cost of running the additional account.

I don't how to measure such a cost but my guess is that the cost is infinitesimal.

If you don't stand up and collect something always goes wrong, the sim crashes, LL shuts the grid down, the power goes out.

I'm too lazy to switch back to a background camper and stand up to collect, so it's a moot point.
