Stop blaming Linden Lab people, they just gave you the tools. I have been watching these threads for a while now and agree that the power to change things is in our capable hands; however, that ability may have been overlooked. If you take a look at LL's approach to managing SL, you'll notice that they barely get involved preferring instead to have the community solve its own problems. I really like that approach since it allows us to impress out own community standards on what is our community - LL plays the role of an enabler and we do the rest. Regardless of what the registration system does or does not do, we have the ability to address griefers through auto-return, disabling flying, disabling object creation, etc. I have personally set my sim to no-fly, autoreturn, and have damage enabled in certain areas in case someone wants to deal more directly with a griefer. I think your comment about not seeing any originality comes from SL, to many people, being a place to explore and express personal fantasies. I started out having purple skin, and a funky name. Later I bought a house and furnished it - then I realized I could build in the sky and went crazy from there. It was not enough to be purple and have a house in the sky, so my focus changed from exploring a personal fantasy to expressing a desire to contribute to the community at large in ways that I probably cannot do in RL. So, I think we see "unconventional" builds, "unusual" AVs, and role-play as the products of people progressing through exploring and expressing their fantasies - or simply enjoying themselves. I've been a member of SL for a little while now. I saw a lot of changes before I stopped coming in too much. Some good, some bad, most simply obvious. On here I see people blaming LL for the way SL is commercialised, for the griefing, for just about everything. Well guess what people, it's your own damn faults. We were all given a world without frontiers, a world where not even the fundamental laws of physics really applied. So what did "we" do? Let me tell you. "we" strove to make this opportunity into a carbon copy of the real world. It's all about turning a dime, about wanting stairs in your house (You can FLY why do you want stairs?). It's about four walls and a roof. Every time I log in now I see more people trying to manipulate their AV's into some incredibly dull tanned example of glossy magazine perfection. Some shining lights remain. But for the ones I read complaining in the forums. I'm afraid you got exactly what you deserved. Stop blaming Linden Lab people, they just gave you the tools. dOOd, its because this is what people WANT! We have the chance to create a new world and we've created our own because the real world reflects what people want. |

People who think that they have the only opinion that is correct. If someone else has a different view point than theirs, well they are just wrong.
You build the SL you want and don't tell the rest of us how to build our SL. Maybe some people like the way those stairs look, did you ever think of that? It has nothing to do with flying or not flying. It's aesthetics. Just because you don't understand it doesn't make it wrong. It just means you have a very narrow view point and that you aren't willing to accept that other people have different views than you do. Imagine how dull the world would be if we all thought the same way. |

I think you might find my point of view is far wider than you might imagine. But this was certainly a fun way of filling a dull afternoon.
