Is this new Forum Resident Moderator thingy a good idea?
To Forum Troops.... * This poll is a public poll, where residents express their opinions and this is not attacking the resmod group whatsoever, and this belongs in the "General Discussion forum, so residents can Discuss their ideas and observations about SL, and the forums*

I have a feeling we will see 15 votes for "good idea."
Oh wait... a bunch of the selected residents said it was a terrible idea and declined the offer.
make that <15

There needs to be the following option:
Good idea, needed to assist the overworked staff, poorly executed and needs fine tuning before going into effect.
I vote for that one...oh and warm pumpkin pie FTW!

I like the idea! But I agree there are issues that need to be revamped.

Where's the "any good idea can turn bad when it's not fully considered or properly implemented" option?

I don't think it was a needed idea, but then I don't agree with much of the forum moderation anyway. But as to whether it will become a good thing, bad thing, or hardly noticable thing; it's just too early to tell.

Don't worry - this thread will be assimilated in 20 minutes - evaluated - and moved to 'Products and Services'

From: Siggy Romulus Don't worry - this thread will be assimilated in 20 minutes - evaluated - and moved to 'Products and Services' HAHAHAHAHA!!!! More likely it will be made inaccessable in Purgatory for the rest of the weekend until Jeska reviews it. After which time it will be placed in a forum section intended for "ideas and observations about the real world" unrelated to Second Life. Sadly, this isn't a joke

I thought volunteering for this program would be a nice way to lend a hand with managing the forums. It wasn't to rule with an iron fist or show off an itchy trigger finger to have 'suspect' threads killed off. I *thought* it was a good idea - not perfect - but a good idea in need of some refinements. I'm kind of surprised at the reaction everyone has had. I figured there would be some backlash, but I thought it would be more about *how* it was implemented and less about that it *was* implemented. From my perspective, nothing has changed, except an added layer, another filter for AR's before any action is taken by Jeska and crew. There is room for improvement - room that will hopefully squash privacy concerns, fairness concerns, etc. As of now, I doubt I'll enlist again and I have new respect for the work Jeska does.

One quick warning...I know a lot of people are really upset about the Resident Moderator program (this poll, while hardly scientific, at least echos the comments made). However it seems that threads about this issue are being closed, "reviewed", or sent to off-topic with an uncommonly low level of tolerance.
For the sake of preserving this debate, please stick to business and don't say things that could be used as an excuse to cornfield the discussion.

So, if it's a good idea, but the execution was poor - what changes could be made to make it so that everyone is more supportive of it?

From: Juro Kothari So, if it's a good idea, but the execution was poor - what changes could be made to make it so that everyone is more supportive of it? I don't believe you'll ever get even a modicum of support from everyone. Some just see it as "FIC" and there seem to be quite a few sour grapes because of it. I dunno, sometimes too much transparency can be a bad thing... I think it has the potential to be a good thing, but with so many people against the idea of ResMods, the program appears to be doomed to failure because so many people just don't want to give it a chance. I wonder if much of the issue is about who the ResMods are - or is it more about the program itsself?

From: Juro Kothari I wonder if much of the issue is about who the ResMods are - or is it more about the program itsself? Hard to say because everybody has their own reasons. For me, the people who agreed to become resident mods are certainly not a problem. You are all some of Second Life's finest, and many of you are VERY close friends of mine. The selection process that choose unaware/uninterested/inactive players over a huge list of qualified, enthusiastic volunteers was the first red flag, but I was prepared to give it time. The fact that Abuse Report privacy is now completely compromised has, for me, removed Abuse Reporting as a forum feature. I will be more comfortable when Resident Mods are unable to see these reports. But at the very core is something more complex. I feel that adding 15 new resmods may be an attempt to fix part of the forums that were never broken, while ignoring the real problems. Rather than now seeing threads whisked away to "off topic" in lighting fast, record time, even on the weekends!!! ... I would rather see the TOS/CS modified in such a way that Jeska, all by herself, is empowered to ACT when forum problems arise. She should be able to nip problem users in the bud before they start months of forum rampages. An empowered Jeska would be worth a 100 resident moderators to me.

From: Juro Kothari I wonder if much of the issue is about who the ResMods are - or is it more about the program itsself? it's about the program itself. more specifically the implimentation and the apparent lack of checks (let alone balances).

Juro, as far as I'm concerned, it's the implementation and and what seems to be an ongoing lack of communication. It honestly doesn't help if discussions on the issue are deep sixed and if we cannot question things without making you feel that you want to quit. I'm just expressing my concerns and asking questions that I'm very surprised weren't discussed in a meeting held with the volunteers before the announcement was ever made. I didn't think of myself as part of a "backlash", I'm sorry if you feel attacked. Would a little humor help lighten the mood?...
