Prost!

Oktoberfest in Neualtenburg is just around the corner -- start date October 15th thru the end of the month (ending with Halloween in N'Burg)

I've begun setting up the tent (It's in our new "Wiesn" area) outside the city walls in the valley --so folks --let me know what you'ld like to see, make, throw event wise.

This thread is all about Oktoberfest!

To make this a success we should have a schedule of events each night, to get as many people in the city as possible. Perhaps we should shoot for one event every weekday and four events every day of the weekend.

Perhaps we should start a sign-up list. An individual or group that signs up for an event would be responsible for advertising the event and placing it in the events calendar.

What do you think?

I suggest this as my schedule is very tight this and next weekend. If I can pin down a time well in advance, then I can commit to it by integrating it into my plans.

Personally, I would like to be part of a fun drink and dance fest like last year, I would like to give a talk about the history and/or politics of the city, and I would like to have a pumpkin rolling/racing contest through the city (does anyone have a copy-mod pumpkin I can have?). :D

I'm happy to hold a party - preferably a Hallowe'en theme. A renenactment of a classic ghost story would be good as well. Not much rehearsal time but who says it has to be perfect? :D I'll organise that as well if anyone's interested, or at least I could do a one-woman show, I suppose.

I notice there is a nice haunted graveyard out the back of Melinas cottage, maybe that would help for the ghostly story? :)

Is anyone creating merchandise expressley for the Oktoberfest?

I strongly encourage this and would love to set up a food table and souvenir stand. Let me know -- last year's Oktoberfest was truly a merchant's paradise --we wound up selling well-over 10K in merchandise in a single night --this Oktoberfest is 2 weeks!!!

Ulrika's famour chicken-hat (which I hope makes a re-appearance) sold over 5K by itself.

This is truly Neualtenburg's BIGGEST festival and i'd like to see our artists and craftspeople turn out some nice stuff!

Don't worry if you can't be ready by Saturday, New additions during the 2 weeks will be welcome!

Any suggestions? The only things that come to mind for me are already covered by you and Ulrika. (beer, chicken hats, beer, drindls, beer, etc.)

My dream is to be a buxom "serving wench" in the beer tent, but I am not sure if that is even necessary in SL. I would also serve time in Garnet's kissing booth if she puts it up again, but as for stuff to make I am drawing a blank :)

Lots of stuff!

Gingerbread hearts.
T-shirts
felt hats
pins
flags
braided wigs
aprons

and that's just off the top of my head!

Take a stroll thru google and see what ya come up with! Somewhere out there is THIS year's chicken-hat :)

Thanks.
Is it really possible to beat the chicken hat though? :D

A drunken Polka might be fun, or is that more Ukranian than German?

The kissing booth can go up again but I could do with volunteers to service other gender preferences. No actual sex is involved just a bit of smooching you could do while cutting your toenails.

I propose a pantomime (not very German but let's pretend we're having a town-twinning event). Three players so far - any more? I'll offer to write the script but people will have to provide their own costumes. Then it's a matter of just being there and typing the words with a bit of movement to show you're alive. I suggest something Mittel-Europe like Cinderella only with fewer characters. Or the Pied Piper. This depends on people being around at the same time of course! There's practically no time for rehearsal so I need volunteers sehr schnell.

I don't know if this may be possible but, a few volunteers or maybe even some hired dancers could do some German folk dancing at Oktoberfest.

I would do time on the dance floor but who has the animations?

Also I want to do the gingerbread hearts if no one else is doing them. Is anyone already doing that?

I'll set up the city wares tomorrow sometime.

I'm going to a pumpkin festival on Saturday (we bought Mathilde a little pumpkin onesie) and then to an RL Oktoberfest celebration on Sunday, so I'll be around only later in the evening over the weekend. Has anyone officially scheduled the Oktoberfest party in the event calendar? If so, let me know the time and I'll try and be there. :D

Oktoberfest is quite special for me. I remember dancing around last year when the city was just the Marktplatz surrounded by snow. :)

Remember to take lots of pictures for snapzilla. It will help us with our next contest entry.

Ah, I have a silly idea of holding a Trivia event... hmm... I suppose I could do some questions on both Bavarian things and Neualtenburg :)
Probably only the next weekend, though. For this one I need something that takes less preparation :) (beyond my "regular" events)

Actually, Satchmo has a "trivia device" and that's what gave me the idea :)

In a fit of madness I've decided to prepare a panto/mummer's play on the theme of St. George. We have a Knight (Kendra - that's what you get for volunteering *g*) and I believe Aliasi has a dragon avie. If she is available then we only need a few more characters and we're set.*

What's most important is to fit the performance around availability of our hero, which is EST evenings. Can anyone be there at that time - if so, any preference for times? I can fit in any time.

*Other characters are loosely connected with these traditional ones - the King of Egypt's daughter, a doctor, a Turkish Knight, a few mummers and bystanders, and maybe a dame for good luck. There might even be a wicked squire.
