From: Billy Grace I am just curious so please excuse the question because it is slightly off topic. This is not meant to drive this thread deep into a RL political discussion. I am simply intrigued by the fact that nobody appears to have recommended a progressive tax or welfare for that matter.
I know that there are several of you who are liberal thinking who I assume are for a progressive tax in RL as well as welfare yet here you are for a flat tax with no welfare. I am very curious why this is the case when so many liberals are passionate about higher taxes for "the rich"? Actually, what we currently have is a tariff system on goods sold. I would be for higher tariffs on imported goods. No offense, Billy --but ya need to think out of the box here. Discussing how things work in Neualtenburg by comparing them to RW government systems like the United States is like comparing the operation of a gumball machine with a nuclear power plant. Welfare is already provided as a weekly stipend from the Lindens. |

No offense, Billy --but ya need to think out of the box here. Discussing how things work in Neualtenburg by comparing them to RW government systems like the United States is like comparing the operation of a gumball machine with a nuclear power plant.
Welfare is already provided as a weekly stipend from the Lindens. Oh, I totally agree with you and am trying to do so with regards to how this Govt. is formed. I think I have been very open minded so far, maybe I am wrong as that is just my perception. I think Y'all have done a marvelous job so far BTW. It actually has been very interesting reading about the different forms like your Guild. I hope my suggestions have at least helped a little. My question was about RL politics I know but I am still very curious about the answer. You could have just as easily done a progressive tax but didn't. Care to take a shot at explaining why you may be for it in RL but against it here? |

I'm strongly in favor of a RL and SL progressive tax on sales but only if it can be implemented in the vendor for the sake of simplicity. The first iteration of the vendor split sales among Kendra, me, and the city equally for an effective tax rate of 33%. The current version supports arbitrary division of income and taxes at a flat 10% rate (I wanted 16%). The final version will have a progressive tax rate based on total income within a given period. It is unclear whether past sales data will be stored on the server and fed back to the vendors or if each vendor will keep a separate sales tally. So, in short it will appear in the vendor eventually, although it's behind several other very important upgrades. Right now we're on vendor 2.2, I don't see the modification hapening until a 4.0 version after some other hush-hush modifications that I can talk about in world, if you're interested. ~Ulrika~
