Wow, I can't believe it - we're actually beginning to seriously discuss our second sim! Yay!

To be very honest, despite all my optimism, I must confess that I did never thought we came to this point so fast! After all, I still remember the painfull weeks in the January-March period where we didn't have the slightest idea if we would survive on our own private sim.

At this time, I think it's really appropriate to thank you all who made this possible thus far — thank you, thank you, thank you!
Whew! Certainly a lot of excitement for another sim!

If I may, please allow me to make a few sobering comments from the financial point of view. (Financial people are always expected to make sobering comments :) ).

We have certainly come a great distance since March, and, in fact, we may have reached the theoretical "break-even" point for City finances, where revenues will equal or exceed expenditures. We'll probably not see this for September, since many of the new citizens fees will not fully be due til October. But, yes, subject to keeping a careful control of expenditures, we may have reached that turning point.

But. Neualtenburg is still significantly in debt. Some may perhaps recall my monthly financial reports, where I've tried to point out that the Balance Sheet shows a listing of everything we "own" minus everything we "owe". That "Balance", that total, is still significantly in the negative. And it only slowly climbs out of the negative by consistent, month-after-month, surplus of revenue.

There is nothing at all wrong with debt. But, increasing debt for a "company" with a negative balance sheet leads to disaster. If we were a RL company going to a RL bank, or, better, approaching RL investors, the first assurance that either the bank or the investors would want, is the assurance that their money can be repaid. Maybe not right away in cash, but seeing that the underlying value of the company is "positive", that it "owns" more than it "owes", is fundamental.

Neualtenburg must demonstrate that over the long term it can produce a consistent, dependable, excess of revenue over expenses before it should consider increasing its debt (by buying another sim). At this point in time, it has only demonstrated the tiniest hint that it can do so. In my opinion, talk of a new sim is pre-mature.

Rather than starting another SIM. I would ask the Government of Neualtenburg to meet with the burdgeoning peoples of the City of Isenland in Takalo. The benefits for Neualtenburg to begin trade relationships with a potential sister-city located on the main-grid would seem a wiser move.

Sudane!! You party pooper!! :p :D

hehe.. But glad someone knows finances. I'd have us all broke in a month. :p

And no matter if a new sim has to be on a back burner for a while or not (I would assume like Gwyneth said that we would not even touch the idea till after the holidays), I do like the idea that Nisse Nilsson has. Setting up a trade relationship with another city sounds like a really neat idea! :)

At this point the free peoples of Isenland are simply requesting an audience with your King.

Greetings Nisse,

We have no King in Neualtenburg. However, as per our Constitution:

From: someone

Article II - The Artisanal Branch

Section 1 - Artisanal Collective

The Artisanal Collective (AC) is group of productive citizens
who provide revenue through sales and infrastructure support.
Its governmental role is to act as treasury and its service role
is to provide goods and infrastructure.

The first step in any trade relationship would be for you to contact our current Gildemeister, Kendra Bancroft. Or for her to contact you. :)

Ah, I understand. My apologies. You have then, a Queen. I shall contact her.

She is not our Queen. Though I doubt she will have a problem being addressed as such. ;)

... I would like the sim to add on to the East of our current sim, such that the castle and city center can be completed, albeit in a different and evolving style...
I would vote for south, as I think it is important to get some land that is neither bothered by the clouds nor too steep. I would also like to see some water someday, so getting part of the environment down to a reasonable altitude is a big thing for me personally. Even an alpine lake needs to be a bit lower thatn we currently are I think.

There are likely good reasons for any of the four directions though.

Perhaps we could approach it with a poll/survey as to what folks feel is missing from our current sim (in terms of terrain and facilities) and determine a priority list of features the new sim needs to have based on that.

I dunno, we were pretty civil about it, last thread that was up. And I'm willing to go with nearly any idea that's sufficently cool; I just spin 'em off.
Sorry, I have been overly negative lately.

I'd be happy to meet with Nisse, though I'm not quite sure what benefit trade with an outside city would bring us. We have no shortage of talented artisans in N'burg.

I'm interested in hearing some proposals, however.

Also --heh--I'm no Queen, just a worker drone.
