I know many are, myself included. A few people and myself have created the group Anti-Griefers. It is invite only, let us know if you wish to join. We need to put a stop to it NOW! We will have a meeting possibly to figure out what to do about griefing situations.

Eh where do you find those 'griefers' of yours? I actually never met one. If someone is not behaving good, I just ask him/her to stop and that always works for me. Ever tried that?

I pretty much thought reporting griefers did the trick.

What do you plan to do about these griefers?

Most anti-<insert behavior here> groups I've encountered usually resort to whatever behavior they're trying to eliminate to achieve their goals.

Meaning, group grief the griefers?

What's a griefer anyway? I've never met this mythical beast...

Griefers are low, evil creatures, straight from the bowels of Hell. They tend to appear as avs with all sliders to the right. Their sole mission in SL is to cause as much grief among normal folks as possible. They also consort with the evil lima bean and speak the language of 14 year old AOL users. :D

Well a griefer is someone who has fun by pissing off and or annoying other people in online worlds.

Not many of those in SL, and certainly not enough to make me 'tired of them'...

I think I've met one griefer, ever, in SL. And from what I can tell, he was in game for about an hour before giving up.

SL attracts all kinds, but keeps nice creative people. Our community is the best griefer filter out there.

I can't imagine what as a group you would do to griefers, other than grief them. And then, we would need a group to grief the griefer group.

Vicious cycle.

Let me clarify some of the above.

I don't mean that I think people should be allowed to grief, or that it is a valid form of play.

I just feel that we do have some tools in place for taking care of this thing.

I'm not sure what could be done, outside of reporting someone to the Lindens, to curtail someone's behavior in SL. We have no means for causing harm to someone else other than harassing them.

IF there are positive, constructive ways to deal with this issue, I wouldn't mind helping. However, I truly can't think of any.

:)

Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to the methods that would be used to 1) Decide who and what is a griefer that would be fair and 2) Curtail this behavior in a way that in itself wouldn't be griefing.

I truly am puzzled as to how this would be brought about and would like to do whatever to make SL a more laid back place. In these times of scarcity, apparently we can use it :)

So let me get this right. A group forming to deal with griefers. Who sets the standards? A few words from a person? So then said group goes to attack said person. Isn't that griefing too? Especially if the person is wrongly accused?

Didn't the Lindens and those funny police reports say something about 'people taking the law into their own hands' and that being bad? Maybe I read wrong.

I bet Ose is not really a kind, thoughtful, quiet, talented person. I bet it's all an act. A front. I bet he's really a psychopathic axe murderer.

And the group is a front. Yeah that's it. The group is going to lure in nice, innocent people, and then kill them!! Kill them all!!!! And hide the bodies in the Globe Theater! And under the Boardwalk!!

Wait! You know all those ghosted bodies around? I bet Ose and his group killed them!! I know he takes pictures of them. Now I know why!! He's a serial av killer and those ghosted bodies are his trophies!!!

You're caught now, Ose. We're slick. We figured out what you're REALLY doing with your evil malicious group. Yup yup yup. Cat's out of the bag now. The gig is up, buddy boy. Hah!

Play a few fun rounds of Bingo, enjoy culture with a play at the Theater, and then top it off by picking up a few weapons of mass destruction to take home as a memento of your visit!

P.S. to Ose. Ok ok. I promise I'm gonna get some coffee and by the time you get inworld I'll be... fine...

Griefers

Yeah, this past holiday weekend was really bad. Bumpers, shooters, you name it. Reporting them works, if you can catch them! Some of them have gotten good at the hit and run.

Sorry that was a joke, I meant for it to sound like some kind of rare animal only found in a place like Australia. (Didn't mean the human population, lol) I was continuing the "mythical beast" bad joke I posted before. Anyway I like Australians. :D Perhaps I should have said Australian desert?

So yeah, the mythical Griefer Beast lived in the Austrailian desert 2000 years ago, right?

Lima beans are good for inserting up rugrat noses. They're also good for kindergarten gluing projects.

Regarding people who throw you around...
12-03-2003 08:41
In terms of griefers, the one thing I've encountered in my brief time in SL has been people who aquire some kind of device which shoots, throws, or bumps an avatar and flings them (sometimes to the edge of the world). And they keep doing it.

I really don't want the ability for this to happen to change. However, I personally wanted something to defend myself against such things.

Based on an earlier experimental 'anchoring' device I made the first time someone launched me, I have created a stasis shield, which is a worn item. It detects incoming prims, and if their velocity exceeds a sensitivity level, it attempts to forcibly hold you at your last known stationary location.

It works quite well versus most of the bumping/flinging/vehicle collision methods I've encountered. Many thanks to Kento Kim for helping me test it out. It is not a damage shield (the projectile still hits you), it instead is a position-maintaining device.

Currently the device is weak versus very large prims, or attacks which simply lift straight up from below. This is due to the worn prim's center of mass being equal to the avatar. I think with a bit of off-center to the destination, the device will be proof versus most vertical orbiters as well.

I plan to refine it and make it available, though it is a simple concept I'm sure someone has implemented before. I suggest that one goal of any anti-griefer effort should include a set of tool items useful for self-defense, such as the stasis field concept, rather than retaliatory strikes.

I fully endorse this product and/or service.

Maxx's are alllllright.

I like the idea of just making the attacks non-effective without retaliation. Makes it a bit noble, in my opinion.
