Hi hi, i have been thinking this idea over several times and think it might actually be a good idea.

Well you know how there are other cities with shopping themes (ex. rodeo drive, galleria city) well I was looking at some pictures on the internet and thought that a Tokyo sim would be awesome.

Would be night time all the time, buildings would be city style with colorful products and lit up signs, would be mostly a fashion capital. There would be signs and streets, and the entrance of the city would have a big entranceway with an arch with statues on sides or japanese scripture.

It could be a Tokyo themed sim, or i also had the idea of a China Town (see pictures).

But anyway, this is just an idea. I know nothing related to the actual project i had in mind. Of course if i could afford a whole sim to build with, i would go ahead and do it. But I cannot afford that much, so right now it is just an idea. Please post your opinions or what you think of it! Maybe if we get enough people interested we might actually be able to build it, who knows!

Luna, I'll quickly step up and say WHAT A SWEET IDEA. I really like it. :D

One of my fave virtual environments in a piece of interactive digital fiction would have to be the Hong Kong atmos. of Deus Ex. I was really enthralled by how that was set up. I'm hoping to see something similar in SL, even cyberpunky!

Something with a real brooding ambience, maybe even sinister at parts -- but decidedly exotic and teeming with a hodgepodge of Asiatic (but NOT only limited to, as Chinatowns and such tend to be a mixed melting pot full of Engrish ;) ) influence. I'm also gettin' a vibe of bustlin' Bangkok as shown in movies like The Beach.

There used to be a Neo Tokyo in SL but this was far before my time.

Pics of Deus Ex's Hong Kong here:

hehe yes, pretty similiar. a grungy dark type of city with lots of bright colorful lights to bring it out. does not necessarily have to be entirely "dark" but a few buildings with dirty brick walls, etc. and some nice cleaner steel buildings here and there.

Im surprised torley didnt say this, but the whole design of tartarus is based off tokyo/LA circa 2019 :D Infact there is another project looking to do the same thing as well. Cyber punk seems HUGE in second life :)

That's a good point, GITS and all that... sowwie, you know me, I tend to miss the obvious. LOL... okay... I'll be saying it more when Tartarus is done. *crosses her fingers* :D

What's the other project looking to do the same thing?

Thats a sweet idea, even if, to keep the theme consistent, i would theme it after tokyo OR china. The architectures of japan and china are very different from each other, for historical, cultural and political reasons (maybe hong kong may be more siilar to Japan, but not totally).
If you theme it after Tokyo there are so many interesting building to chose from that you could fill probably 20 whole sims to exploding

This sounds nice. But yet another shopping sim? If I imagine one whole Asian style sim there should be more than shops. Maybe one roleplaying game or something. Otherwise this will be one great sim with much effort spent that will be wiped after short time when everybody has seen it once, got bored with shops and nobody no longer wants pay 200$ per month tier. Just like Galleria City and other places.

As for practical and long term economically viable approach: I am looking for skilled builder to hire to develop one contemporary Asian style commercial building at Grizledale telehub, next to Centre Ville mall. It will not be as fancy dream as one whole neo-Tokyo sim but it will be very visible, very functional and if my business plan is correct it will be there for people to enjoy long time :-)

Just click link in my signature if interested :-)

i dunno, it was just an idea. :D

i personally love the way some of the buildings in tokyo are styled so wanted to see what people thought! and i was focusing more on the modern-type buildings, with maybe a center of the sim with a big huge electronic billboard thingy on the side of a building, much like the one in NYC.

but anyhoo, yeah..i will have to check out the sim someone mentioned! *forgets the name already*

EDIT : tartarus!

i dont see it on the map =\?

I think a Tokyo (or Hong Kong) sim would be great, if it could be made to look like the first pic above, with all the bright colored lighted signs, shops, etc. I'd definitely go there a lot. And, yeah, it could have a variety of other activities/attractions besides shopping... I dunno, maybe restaurants, teahouses, theater, gardens? I know I'd go just to hang out and look around. It'd be pretty cool.
