There's already an online game that has a system like that.

You know, that game.

(Why should Second Life have a TSO-style needs system grafted on? I'd rather not have to worry about finding a toilet or managing a grocery budget when there's already enough to keep my attention, you know? :D)

NOOOOO!!!! Dreaded!! Ack! I made my escape from TSO to SL just to get away from these things... Just think, first needs, then....SKILLPOINTS... then... DEPRICATION!!

can we reply if we don't like this? ;) :D
I don't think a needs system belongs in SL, and if you want one, maybe there can be some other version of SL available.
SL tries to put zero needs on people, and money is just sorta necessary ;)

No offense guy, but I HATE that idea. I already have enough "care and feeding of the human body" to worry about in the real world, thank you very much. I'm with the others, you can go join TSO and deal with the mafia if your idea of a good time is telling someone when to shower and defacate. Personally I don't see the allure, I bought The Sims a few years ago when it first came out and it was the most mind-numbingly boring four hours I have ever spent. If Second Life ever decides to mimic that stuff I'll leave without any remorse for all I left behind.

I think we need a new section in the forums for jokes. One where we can get our daily laugh. Because, as Jericho just said, this one belongs there.

Well, I kinda like the idea...not as demanding as TSO, of course, and, there shouldn't be any sort of meter. We should simply be able to see what our avatar needs from the gestures it makes. Yawn when tired, grab stomach when hungry, that sorta thing.

Its not that I want the extra work of finding a soft surface to lie on when avatar yawns, but, I simply want the ability to eat and lie down and stuff. :)

1) Their is no real food, Sleep, etc... in SL
2) This is not TSO
3) This is not a RPG style game
4) What would these 'needs' accomplish? The dynamic has a REASON to be in TSO.
5) This is not TSO
6) I realy hope this is a joke.
7) You can use animations to do anything you wana look like your doing, you don't need 'needs'.

:( Needs?:(
Its hard enough just finding enough time to build things... I wouldnt want to be in the middle of a serrious script or half way through building something and then my Avatar goes ( "Im not doing it until you give me a shower and a good god man let me go to the bathroom!";)

Hmmm do you realy want that?

Also, the problem with this is that it doesn't translate to a game where the character you control is a representation of you and you alone, as opposed to TSO, where you guide a SimPerson that isn't necessarily inclined to do what you want and has its own needs.

LSL!
06-16-2003 17:39
Chant with me, LSL!

If you want said needs, create objects for yourself with nifty little scripts to give you such needs. Along with this, create yourself more objects which satisfy said needs. I believe there is a depletable energy system already in the game, which is capable of keeping track of this nicely.

If you want it, build it.

However, don't make the Lindens do it, because I don't want it :D

This sounds like a feature that can be included as a sub-game of SL, maybe part of a role playing game of some sort.

(Elf needs food, badly!)

Ama, you still interested? We don't have actual IMs between objects, but (as I pointed out way back when) we can fake it well enough.

SL ROCKS!
06-17-2003 06:51
*ack pfwee

TSO... eat sleep, skill, job object rinse and repeat all the while trying to build barbies dream home and trying to land ken. Opps Ken is in the john again filling his needs!

SL...Flys threw the air without a care in the world thinks about events/parties/tours/uploading textures and sounds/ and of course building a looney bin for good old barbie and ken :D

We dont need no stinking needs :D Aint SL Grand :D

let em tweek the taxes and add the ability to hug and this game will set the gamer community on its ear (hehe like it hasn't already :D

Guess you could always go ask Maxis to give ya the ability to fly....you wouldn't have it for a year or two if ever but hey you could ask :D

Another point I thought I'd bring up...

Given the extremely flexible and wonderful avatar appearance settings, as well as the ability to attach objects to the body to create some completely non-humanoid forms (a nod to Darque's giant spider form here)...

Not all of us are humans, or normal, and therefore not all of us would have those needs.

Maybe we're aliens, or cyborgs who run on batteries, or perhaps vampires or some other such thing, which would have an entirely different set of needs.

In short, needs should not be implemented globally, they would ruin the concept creativity, which is SL's greatest strength.
But, the others a great point above: You could do this with scripted objects, and using a non-hearable chat channel to standardize it and communicate between objects. It could be done.

IM sorry I am like the rest of the TSO escapies.

DO NOT Please for the love of electrons DO NOT try to make this realm like TSO.

TSO is failing badly right now so trying to emulate it is only wanting SL to fail and I for one want with all my heart and creativity for this to reign ritchious over the rest of the online games.

Also I want it to set MMORGs on their butts with its ability.

So I beg that no one at Linden labs takes this request seriously for needs.

Thats my $2 Linden

The game already has what you ask for...
Hunger- Who hasn't gone running for the fridge for something.. anything!.. to stop the hunger pains. Moving too quick to worry about AFKing yourself, you slide back into your seat and hit Shift+H to see if anyone talked with you while you were away?
Bladder- "Just one more stair on my palace and then I'll go... alright, just after this floor texture then I'll go... right after this conversation, then I will definately go..."
Hygiene- Have you ever noticed that showers are just too long to leave your Av in AFK, but a bit too short to completely log out and log back in, leaving you in this terrible dilema?! ...I have, and my husband as started hanging those pine tree car fresheners around each of my ears.
Comfort- This WAS a problem... until my chair finally form fitted around my backside. Of course now I have a hard time getting up. (See: Bladder)
Energy- Sleep?! I'll sleep when my building is "done".
So, in conclusion, be careful what you wish for.. you might just get it.

For those of you who want to find some old friends from TSO, Checkout hte Mixer on Monday nights. I have been having Who were you in TSO mixers. Have lots of fun bashing the game. Make your favortie item. Dress like your old sim 500 cash for the best item.
