Went to check on the LSL wiki and got a message about upgrades & mirrors.

I live off the LSL wiki, i use it extensively for my documentation. I haven't use the LSL official docs in years.

I think this sudden need to upgrade the wiki has something to do with the security flaw posted earlier.

  1. How long has this been there?
  2. I`ve got nothing. Does this bring up lsl_guide.html?

It appears to work now ^^;;

but yes, if it goes away i'd be pretty much screwed. Relying on it to provide all the syntax details and whatnot so i don't have to memorize them >.<

yeah it's supposed to open the lsl_guide.html; it's shipped with the client longer then i've been in SL; i've got an installer for SL 1.0 and that even has one (1.0 was released like 3 years ago). On the wiki pages with just stub write-ups, they are taken from that document typicaly (or from the tooltips in the client; which are usualy the same).

Anyways... I'm a bit annoyed they have left us in the lurch; I use the wiki extensively and store alot of functions on the wiki (ever wonder who writes those example functions?)

I only ever used the official docs when I was starting out and didn't know about the wiki. I hope they're running good backups on it, because if it ever disappeared it would be a disaster.

i made a copy during 10.x something...

so its not fully upto date
the comments were stripped
there is no search or page jump
and its a large collection of html files

on the plus side, it makes a ok local backup
and it works in the SL f1 browser quite nice

if you want to see a copy its @
lslwm.zip 6-24-06

theres a basic index.html page, in a windows example the url for the folder being in c:\wiki would be ... file:///c:/wiki/index.html

The wiki was up for a while, but getting 404 errors again. Ironically enough I tried Osgeld's link, and got a 404 error there as well.

I am in LSL wiki withdrawl! I agree with Strife though, I think it had something to do with the security breach as well.

I hope there wasn't something in the wiki that helped those creeps to hack the system. That would be doubleplusungood.

I always assumed it was the script pixies...

Glad to finally know where they are from. Thanks Strife, I learnt a lot of LSL just by reading the examples and playing.

Same here, new to scripting so I hit the wiki 30 or 40 times per day or more for reference. Also thats why I use Scite-EZ with it's older definition file because I can mouse over, click F1 and the word in wiki opens in the web browser. But I was thinking even before the wiki went down how nice it would be to have this reference material on our computers, library and all. Don't know what kind of format it would have to be in to pop back and forth between individual words and the function list. But wow it would be great.

Don't know how much of a pain it would be to put it into a downloadable format but if they could it looks like it would free up some resources too. How many hits a day do they have on the wiki site?

I uploaded a copy of Osgeld Barmy's backup of the Wiki to my site. It can be reached at http://rpgstats.com/wiki_06_24_06/index.html

Thrax-- I load that URL in Firefox and get a nice view of the HTML source, not a rendered page? Much appreciated on the mirroring, though.

Yes, same here. Seems like the Webserver needs some config File tweaking.
Does the Webserver serve Files without .htm or .html extension as plain text ?

I load Osgeld Barmy's backup from my local harddisk
(no Webserver, just start with the index.html file)
and it works fine and its very fast.
Well, this will do for now. Thanks. :)

Yeah firefox isn't smart enough to ignore what the server says the type is in the headers (or you could say IE is too stuburn to beleive the headers).

Into an .htaccess file in that folder.

In reading back through this, I realized I posted a criticism of Osgeld's & Thraxis's work without articulating how much I appreciate it in the first place. That's not my normal practice, Os and Thrax! Sorreh! I think it's great that y'all were thoughtful enough to mirror the wiki and I'm grateful you took time to make it available for all. Strong work.

You can look up a function name in google and see the page in the cache link. if you just add LSL to your search term you will usually find a link to a wiki page at the top of the results.

See Catherine Omega's web site for info on the wiki.

I'm in the process of downloading the wiki from gcache using wget (the first time i did with httrack it set off googles anti-bot code). There are about 1900 pages on the wiki, excluding comments & revisions. I'll have a zip shortly.

The only page you would really want the revisions for would be llSetPrimitiveParams

Woo, you rock! Looking forward to it.

I'm currently uploading the Osgeld Barmy backup of the wiki to my site as well so we'll have two sources in case one goes boom. (I'll also see if I can't get a copy of your gcache version up once I get it as well.)

[Edit] Ok, another LSL Wiki mirror is up here: http://lsl.stryfe.org/ or http://stryfe.org/lsl (they are the same thing) [/Edit]
