Hey everyone,

Is there a way that I could set up an object to relay in-world chat to an IRC server?
My friend has a server and I want to be able to send SL chat to an IRC room.

Thanks!

A friend of mine did this some time ago from a script. Can't give you any more details than that, but it is possible. Might require the help of an external web server. Not sure.

The above at xstreetsl.com might have some bearing on this subject. "QuickFox.net IRC <-> Second life gateway/relay system 0.9.9.2"

That project is weird. It has a lot of demo videos of features, but not a single word on *what* that par thing actually is on the project site.

Quite confusing.

Its assumed the very first line on the page:

Protocol Awareness and Research Foundation

To be extremely obvious of what it is.

On topic:

Check out the Quckfox IRC thing on xstreet, I used it personally to achieve the same goal of creating a relay and its quite good.

It may be because english isn't my native language, but that name isn't telling me much to be honest.

What i can read from it: It is a foundation (a base framework or an actual incorporated foundation, as in a fund?) for protocol awareness (what is protocol awareness? Being aware that protocols exist?) and Research (into protocol awareness I assume?).

I'm afraid I have to say that for me this name is anything but obvious.

LordGregGreg or LGG is the keeper of what was libsl and is now OpenMV's GridProxy. The Protocol Awareness and Research is a plugin and nice GUI carrying on in the tradition of libsl, reverse engineering Second Life. In this case the protocol is the stream of info between LL servers and the viewer.

Give it a try or not, take apart the source or not, it's a free country, or in this case free world.

Ah now that is a description I understand. Thank you very much.

.. to which you are of course entitled. But, you sound offended by my previous messages. I do apologize, but what i wanted to state was that I couldn't find any information about what PAR is on the project website. Maybe I will try it, maybe I won't (but given the facts that I couldn't find any information about installation on non-windows systems on the project site, (or for that matter the system requirements for PAR), and that I run Mac OS X I'll probably give it a careful prod first to see if I can figure out where to install it on my system). Since you seem to be involved in the project I hope you can accept my statements the way they were meant, as constructive criticism. i don't have anything against PAR, I'm simply stating that in my eyes it lacks introductory documentation. Of course you're free to disregard my opinion as unfounded, but I hope you won't.

I wish you and your project all the best.

Cheers

OMG no, I was not offended at all. I personally like and use PAR. I also use libsl some and half-assed dig around in the code some also. But I am not trying to force it on people and wanted to reflect that along with conveying the message that the source is available. Libsl, dissecting the info stream or compiling viewers really isn't most people's cup of tea.

The JMHO was placed in there because I am not sure LGG or Day Oh would totally agree with my assessment.
