It's pretty obvious that LL has NO corporate customers...

they wouldn't pull a borderline illegal price hike like this if they had customers with any kind of legal department. I believe the legal departments of, say, IBM or Microsoft are bigger than the whole LL...

I doubt that Immersive Workspaces, which is the latest product offered for the corporate market, is significantly impacted by price changes for the Openspace product from a financial perspective.

As for the attitude of potential customers who, if they are also residents, may also be burned by the OS change, things may be quite different.

A former employer with a sharp mind for brand marketing once told me that 1 in 10 happy customers spread word-of-mouth advertising for you, but 7 out of 10 unhappy customers will actively advertise against you.

I doubt that IBM is scrimping by using Open Spaces, or would care too much if they had to switch them to full sims.

IBM has about 20-30 sims. Most could be open lands, given the few prims in.

Around the IBM lands, are some other companies, like Manpower. I wonder what they do, they issued only ONE job announcement in one year, for a french company (Orange) which intended to build a community in SL, what they never did.

So if LL wants to throw the "dreamers" out of SL, and focus on only the companies, the number of sims in SL would drop from 30,000 to only 30. This would elegantly solve the problems of server overload and chat lag.

Seriously, I wonder why so little companies invested in SL, and tried to use it, if only for business meetings. IBM, Manpower, NASA, and some related labs... Probably they realized for long that LL would not manage SL properly.

I guess that IBM business meetings suffer as much as the "hippies" of gratuitous crashes, chat errors, etc. Even a simple business meeting is not possible like this.

If roads were built only for business meetings, there would be only some, and business people would use other means to travel.

Seems like they have a few corporate customers ;)

Email/Letter campaigns targeting corporate presences in Second Life.
There have been numerous virtual protests and calls for lawsuits against Linden Labs over the Open Space controversy however, I question how much impact these are having in their decision making. Much of LL's recent business development pursuits seems to be targeting corporate customers and having a presence in the "next big thing", using this medium as a tool to extend their brand and as an effective means to virtual collaboration. http://secondlifegrid.net/slfe/corporations-use-virtual-world Resident demographics show that most users are middle aged, highly educated with a fair amount of disposable income. AvivaUSA, a major American Life insurance company, recently announced that they have spent nearly half a million dollars setting up their virtual island.

Since it appears that Linden Labs doesn't seem to be listening to their residents, perhaps they will listen to their corporate customers. In no way am I advocating any sort of griefing or violations in the SL TOS, however I am suggesting a calm, rationale and measured letter/email campaign to corporate presences in Second Life outlining why we may choose not to support their brand as a direct result of Linden Labs mismanagement of Open Spaces. We are their target market after all. Anyone care to draft a letter template we can customize and a list of potential company email addresses and fax numbers? A list of companies in SL can be found at these links:
