I really hope we don't have to wait until Q3 2009 to fully deploy robust object script / agent script load monitoring tools. The script efficiency issue in sims that has been plaguing most of Second Life since day 1 has for most part been due to a lack of these kinds of tools which prevent self regulation. It was needed yesterday.

The language sounds like there will be global(region) based script limits, like the script time per frame reduction that Argent mention, but it also seems to imply that there will be individual limitations on objects and avatars, regardless of the global limit.

Let's all hope that the limit will be cumulative and the micro management of object and avatar based script loads is left to region/parcel owners/moderators, with the help of these tools. Once someone is assigned to the development and they post Office Hours, anyone interested should take part and provide input during the testing phases.

It's good that it appears that we're going to be getting these tools, but we have to make sure it gets implemented correctly.

Even after we have decided on what those limits should be, we still have to then build into the viewer the tools you will need to monitor and measure your own script usage. Once those tools have gone through QA, First Look and Release Candidate stages, they will finally make it into the default viewer. Then we will need to provide you all with a reasonable length of time to adjust to those limits.

Please, please, please, please consider SVC-835 while you're in there.. Please.

New "Top Scripts on Parcel" estate flag for parcel owners to see script times on their land (and enabled on mainland)

Suggestion to allow mainland land owners the ability to find scripts that are misbehaving on their land and for script writers to be able to get performance measurements without needing to be an estate manager.

I think this should include a new estate switch so that estate managers (LL on the mainland) could allow land owners to see Top Scripts on their parcels and a new group role priv so that group owners could control who has access to this on group-owned land.

Anybody who hasn't voted for this but thinks it's a reasonable idea please give it a vote at http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-835 .

They were also talking about things like hard limits on numbers of scripts, and other unnecessary complications.

Lesse.. 255 prims per attachment point, times 255 scripts per prim times the number of attachment points..

Yay! Grief vector!!
