Yup, me too, I was booted out. That "Those logged in will be allowed to stay logged in" is utter crap, they always lie and boot everyone out.

Why weren't there any detail of how this procedure is taken in the grid status website? I read the news on RSS feed on the status site, and I thought I was to be kicked out from SL so I told others the same, said good bye and logged out. NOW I CANNOT LOG BACK IN and KNOWING I COULD HAVE JUST STAYED THERE!!! Please please please put full detail on the status websites, not the meaningless front blog site! Me 2 the same thing , but i wanted 2 relog so when i wanted 2 log in back 2 SL i couldn't ... Pllllz we need more info about this , how much it will take time ??! n when they will finish >>> i'll get boreeeeeed without SL !!! |

I think its also affecting billing as the my tier payment just failed. Actually seing the warning email is what made me look at the clock and realise it was time for the outage lol.

Do you want them to tuck you in at night also? Sheesh. Personally I would feel insulted if they assumed that I was too stupid or lazy to convert from PST to GMT, it's at least 40 years since I learned to add 8 and get the right answer. By the time I'd been in SL a month I was converting it without even thinking. And can I say how nice it is to see them getting in early to do this kind of maintenance, while most of us Europeans are still at work, and I guess most in the US are still getting up. The old Wednesday downtimes used to ruin an evening, this time it will hopefully be done and back up by the time I get home from work. |

Thanks for at least giving a heads up...but...

If you are going to specify a time....it would be really nice to respect the orgainised residents and stick to it.
I knew there was going to be down time from 5.30 SLT....I could even do the math to work out when that would affect me. So I planned to get in world a lil early and retrieve some information I needed so I could use the downtime effectively - both me and LL being constructively busy (insert happy smiley face here). What happens...20 mins before the scheduled downtime...I try to log in and get told "log-ins are disabled - check the grid status log" Check that...it still says the downtime is from 5.30.... So either LL is setting its watches on Mars....or someone there doesn't actually credit the residents with any respect. If you say you are going to have scheduled maintenance or downtime...do it AT THAT TIME or you completely negate the point in telling anyone. If you have to bring it forward...make the priority to tell people what you are doing... PR is really very easy to achieve - it simply requires you treat your clients/audience with respect and COMMUNICATE what you are doing. So...hopefully this downtime will be useful for LL and help solve some of recent issuses...what a shame you guys stopped it being useful for me. |

Thank You
01-22-2009 05:45
I've only been in world for 2 1/2 years, but I remember when EVERY Wednesday morning SL was shut down for maintenance. Oh the complaints! But I used the time to catch up on Torley's vidtuts, the forum, surf SLEx (now Xstreet) for cool stuff, wash my hair, and watch Firefly DVDs over and over again. Oh, and we used to complain when 15,000 users were online because it slowed the Grid down.
Get a perspective. And congratulations to those Lindens who are still onboard for this fabulous ride. You know, the ones who still believe in the dream of the metaverse and do the exhausting ant drone work that keeps it going for those of us who like the grasshopper only play. Thanks Lindens ~ without you I'd never have met the amazing people I call my friends in SL and Rl, realized that Hey! I'm creative!, learned to use PS and 3-D modeling software, or, as happened to one of my friends recently, had my kids check on me because Mom sounded like she was having too much fun. Do you want them to tuck you in at night also? Sheesh. I agree, lol. Just type 'time in San Francisco' into google and compare it to your GMT's, people. Or get a world clock widget. |

I was actually making the point that they scheduled the downtime and failed to follow that schedule. Oh well time for some of my scheduled maintenance.

to whichever Lindens are monitoring this blog and re-opened logins (at least for me) at 5.45 so I could get in.
It was a gesture appreciated. Hope your work goes smoothly |

Poor Service at best of times
01-22-2009 06:06
So here we go again as if it isnt bad enough that you mess up peoples inventory and the functionality of all scripted items in some way or another and charge us more on the service than ever before. But to be warned of such changes by disrupting our unreality by snapping back to reality to keep up to date on such things as this.
you used to inform us of these things by Dialog boxes so what happened to that. how usless can you get as if you dont make things hard enough as it is and all this week ive had trouble walking because of you what the hell is with this i live in a private region and nothing you are doing should be affecting estates that are not linked to the mainland part of the grig so much for isolating your headaches to the preview grid huh has your whole company forgotten that you provide services for millions of customers what the hell is this i know i just cant wait for you to restore this service to the way it used to be when a person coudl tp/walk and use poseballs without problems. I know i can speak for a lot of customers young and old when i say whats with sitting on a poseball and ending up at the <0.0,0.0,1.0> of a damn map for up to ten minutes. you have to do something about improving the service not constantly cramming more into it. And what posseses you to cramm more than 4 sims on one cpu who do you think you are merlin and his apprentices |

Glad you're doing this but I'd have more kudos for LL taking care of a major issue if they didn't post the day before that maintenance was starting at 5:30AM for 60 minutes and then the next day block logins 30 minutes prior to that.
Honestly, if you're going to block logins at 5AM, the post notifying us of it should say maintenance tomorrow starting 5AM and lasting 90minutes at which time logins will be disabled. I figure that would be common sence. |

Wanted to check in quickly. The database migration went smoothly. The grid is back online and we are running through all of our post-migration checks. Thanks again for your patience during this work and preliminary data shows very positive improvement on query response times. We still have a long way to go (especially on the architectural front), but I am optimistic that this change has helped significantly with our immediate database stability issues. I'll continue to blog as we make progress and hope to have some good news on our commissioning of LLnet in my next monthly post.

Only people with spare time can read the blog before logging in. By "people with spare time" I assume you mean "people who can walk and chew gum at the same time", because it's not hard to refresh your web browser or check your RSS feed in the middle of other computer activities. People too impatient to check the blog or subscribe to the feeds are probably ignoring the login screen, too, and should probably take a deep breath, rearrange their priorities, and monitor their blood pressure closely. |
