crash when you switch graphics window settings
09-06-2008 17:21
The folder and tab icons always get obscured with half-blank icons (which had always been a long-standing problem even in the regular release version). I found a quick fix to it without having to relog, which is to switch the graphics window settings. It usually clears the icon display problems, but in this RC1, if you switch the graphics window settings, it just crashes. Hopefully, you may be able to trace the long-standing graphic display problem, and the crash, and solve both at once.

I have had the same experience as Ed with the disappearing hair. That isn't a show stopper for me, however the bugs with the space navigator joysitck are. I have rarely crashed using this release, but am going back to the normal viewer until the joystick bugs are fixed.

Crashes frequently when in edit mode and the longer I am online the more sluggish it gets.

I'm hoping RC 2 through 15 are actually usable, because thus far, 0 and 1 have less then 5 FPS, and crash like mad, making it more or less impossible to actually play the game =l Yeah, it's optional, but if this is what they have for the future...hoo damn.

Second Life 1.21.0 (95157) Aug 26 2008 16:03:19 (Second Life Release Candidate)
Crashes regularly and shows a whole lot of lag. I wonder if it has some kind of memory leak? When I check memory used it says more than 2Gbyte! (that's all my physical memory LOL) The standard viewer (Second Life 1.20.15 (92456) Jul 18 2008 10:58:42 (Second Life Release)) rarely grabs more than 1Gbyte. From now on I will only use the RC viewer when I want to compile for Mono _____________________

Try downloading and using 1.21.1 Release Candidate viewer rather than 1.21.0.
The newer one seems much better though still a bit unstable as may be expected for a pre-release client. |

I had similar problems to Dora with RC0, in fact I was hitting 2Gig in about 30Min, but RC1 has been ok memory wise, still higher than 1.19.x but fine for doing my scripting and building work. As for Yvon's problem, compiling to MONO works fine for me under RC1 so it looks like you need to file a Jira issue giving your hardware details.

Lost and Confused
09-08-2008 11:40
I normally upgrade my RC when the system insists, but the system isn't insisting, so I wander lost and confused, trying to find the viewer download page. I've been using the viewer from the PreviewGrid, to circumvent the frequent crash program, so have been waiting for this upgrade longer than just the weekend.

Two comments and or requests:
Please make the Icon for the RC different that the one for the main viewer. Please change the installer for the RC (and in fact for all future clients) so that creating a desktop icon is optional. Its a small annoyance, but an annoyance never the less. _____________________

Okay, since the main viewer seems to hate having me wear objects that are on the ground, I decided to give the RC a serious try.
I have to say that I am digging the ability to save my snapshots in other formats. I miss the "Enter Second Life" button, however. So far, I'm not noticing many glitches, in either building or texturing, but I haven't exactly had a chance to give a full twirl. _____________________

RC1 is much more stable, but I have major problems clicking objects as in RC0.
Yesterday was fine but today it seems to be happening rather a lot. Sometimes it seems to be a particular object that causes the crash. But upon relogging for the Nth time and clicking the same object it no longer causes the crash. Sometimes there are patterns but a short while later the pattern is gone and other things tend to cause crashes. It does tend to crash more often when I right click objects though. Perhaps I'm just seeing patterns where none exist. |

Memory leak in RC1 1.21
09-09-2008 20:48
i can confirm a memory leak that develops afetr about 20 mins, and chews up RAM at about 1KB per second. I sat there and watched it do that, while I sat alone in a private sim.

Gestures not working in 1.21.1
09-10-2008 01:33
Playing around with the latest RC. I have noticed many gestures that work fine on previous builds do not trigger in this newest RC. The only way they appear to trigger is when forced using preview from the gesture dialog box. When trying to trigger gestures the name of the gesture appears on screen but the gesture doesn't trigger ... etc /hello shows on screen but no gesture is triggered. I am unsure whether this is multiline gestures or those which start with non-standard symbols etc.
Has anyone else noticed this? |

I just found this tonight as well /applause a single line clap and applause is broke along with many of the awsome, fantastic.. well all of them besides basic library gestures. preview works but typing the /(text does not) as well another issue I found was maybe it supposed to be a feature ![]() ![]() _____________________

Major crashing when building. When trying to change/copy textures from one prim to the next and/or changing textures the normal way.

Hi Meade- try out RC2 now, we have turned off the Thread monitoring which consciously created more crashes than normal. RC2 may still crash and the reports are still valuable, but we think the stability will be better than RC1.
To your questions - yes it definitely helps us even if you send in the same crash over and over. One way we can prioritize the crashes to fix is which are most common. So if something happens all the time when you (for example) open inventory, then we want to know this is happening every 10 minutes to a lot of people!! - No, the crash reports you send don't have an interactive functionality to respond to "some sort of signature". So it can't tell you "hey, we've seen that before, feel free to jump ship" ![]() No personally-identifying information about you or your computer is sent in rhe crash report though. It's just a list of a bunch of settings and the output of the debugging log, showing what code was being processed at the time around the crash. /me agrees - the frame rate does seem a lot better with RC1. Yay, Ramzi! I'm still crashing, though. Boo, Ramzi! ![]() Ramzi, any sorta general guidelines on how long we should stick with it if we're crashing, say, once an hour? If we seem to have the same sort of crash over and over, does it actually help you guys if we keep sending them in? I understand that many things can cause it to crash and that things that look the same from a user perspective aren't always the same. Just wondering if you have any general thoughts on this.. Also, does the crash info we send back get automatically parsed into some sort of signature? I'm wondering about the possibility of ever having the crash reporter say something like "thanks but we've seen this one 1000 times - you can go back to to the previous version for now" or "hey, a new crash - ty for sending it! please keep running this version and sending crash dumps so we can squash this bug" sort of thing. |
