If the changes in the RC are this minimal, then they are about to go gold.

Which is annoying, since they still haven't fixed the ray-tracing picker problem.

I'm guessing that Lindens will start to migrate back over to the blog for these sorts of things, so:

Given how flaky blogs.secondlife.com is... I think y'all oughta keep an eye out here as well until you have it straightened out.

Checking in Jira, it seems that JIRA items about the ray traced picker have been closed as "fixed" or "works as expected".

It's not fixed and doesn't work as expected. I do not expect focussing on an avatar to focus on some random prim behind the avatar.

Please re-examine these entries. The current behavior of the picker is unacceptable.

I can't comment there: Safari users are locked out.

I was able to post in Safari, but not Firefox.

I think it's just basically flakey.

I can't upgrade....
02-26-2009 13:05
As soon as I saw the message to update, I did, I downloaded the new RC10, installed, and tried to log in, as soon as I did, it gave me a message 'REQUIRING" me to downgrade, as in it gave me zero option to say no. It was update/downgrade to RC9 or it wasn't going to let me in. So wtf is going on?

I'm using Firefox 3.06. All the blog links, including all RSS links, fail.

It's been like that all day.

Same result, same message as Napili. This is FF 3.1 Beta 2.

It works with Flock, though.

Everything Slow tonight for me...
02-26-2009 18:16
Seems anything to do with SL is very slow for me tonight. I have a 8meg/700K connection to Dallas and a little better to San Fran, but download of RC10 was 40k. Took forever for blog to load. Did not try to post there. Took almost a minute to get the main blog page loaded.

Everything else I go to is fine.

Two issues found in RC9 and again with no fixes in RC10,

Mac - Will not save Graphics Open GL settings, defaults to lowest possible setting.
LInux - Sound crashes and is unstable when in operation.

Also, there is a bug in RC10 with Mac, that causes extreme lag(walking, slow Client operation), in comparison with Other viewers. this was also a problem in RC8, that was fixed in RC9.

I feel these need to be fixed for the New SL main viewer before release.

I assume that http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-3947 , Ugly Font Rendering, will be fixed before the RC goes R, since any self respecting program would want to be able to consistently display its main menu so it doesn't have to avert its eyes and look down at the ground when in the company of other programs.

Many people want so much and yet you want so little :)

RC10 seems to be behaving itself well for me, albeit there's still the Sculptie/Prim rendering debate.

It still seems odd that glaring issues (like min-map height markers being wrong for as long as I've been on SL) are just ignored.

Oh, and the fact that if I have one foot on a 0.001 thick carpet and the other foot off to one side, from tiem to time my whle leg crunches and lifts up almost round my waist !!!

It would be nice if the Axes display would work properly. A virtual world ought to be able to tell an avatar from a hole in the ground.

Server update part of the problem?
02-27-2009 07:14
Since the latest server update, you know, the one that took 4 mths to get right, I have noticed a lot of issues with physical object boundries, sculpty boudries, etc.

Example: Rez a box, make it physical, then camera down to ground level to look under it. Instead of being pretty close to the ground, it floats about .2 m up. Same if you try to push (control - select - drag) one physical box against another, you see a big gap. Looks like those old magnet dogs. LOL

Same goes for scuplts. Rez a sculpt and make it big, then try to walk over it. At many points you find yourself way off the visible surface.

While this has always been the case with sculpts to a certain extent, it is much worse now. I wonder how much of what we are attributing to the Release Client is really messed up in the server 1.25 code?

SLvoice after Exit??
02-28-2009 09:43
This is almost trivial...When I exit SL RC 10 (or 9) I get a pop-up that says SLVoice quit unexpectedly.

Is there a Jira for this?

It's hard do be precise or quantitative, but it seems like it's taking a lot longer than usual to get textures loaded upon arriving in a new place in RC10. Of course this might be a matter of server weather too..
