I know this is a tocuhy subject being RL feelings and assumptions get tossed into SL. I know, I know but heres my issue. See in RL I am very petite, under 5 foot tall and in SL my AV is also very petite and small. I clearly state in my profile I am of age in RL and SL and to take it further my AV has tattooes and piercings(in my area, 18 years old is the legal age to get tattooes and piercings in RL).
Where my issue arises is for the first time since being in SL I have had a complaint cme to my attention by the club owner I work....worked for that someone didnt like my AV cause it was a child looking one. Ummmmmmmmm no. Profile says i'm not, tattooes say i'm not and piercings say i'm not. Needless to say the club had to let me go because I WILL NOT change MY AV to suit someone elses RL disturbances. Really, please get a grip and understand or at least read, or even ask me! How much more clearer must I get? I'm pissed because a club I been going to for almost two years had to let me go because of some halfwitted and not even close to the truth, complaint.
Hers the thing, SL sells small AVS, lollipops, kids clothes, etc etc etc. So?...its a gameeeeeeeeee. Yes a game. My thing is if you cant deal with it them dont complain cause honestly? I never seen a child in RL with a fucking tail and ears....get it yet?
Am I pushing limits? I'd like to think not being small in RL like I said. So, all small and petite people in RL are kids? My grandma is 4'7"...she must be a kid huh.
I'm sorry for rambling and being angry but someone really ruined my night by complaining and briging the club owners to have to let me go because of the complaint and also because, I will not change my size/shape. I've been small in SL since day one.
Really in my mind what the complaint means is this. Usually if you complain about something of that nature, your into it but "it" being a very very bad thing in RL you wont own it so you despise it openly to hide your true feelings. Sick man, sick.
Bottom line, get a grip, its a damn game and all you hafta do is hit the x orrrrr, get every goddam store closed down that sells kid stuff, petite stuff etc etc. See my point yet? SL! not RL!
Oh and LL this is not a assault on you, I truly understand the whole kid thing in its sense but when someone like me who clearly states they arent a kid gets shit from a closed minded baboon it bothers me. Nevermind I lost a job at my favorite club for a lonnnngggggtime and probably wont go back there for a while due to feeling not right about the cituation.
Please also, grow some balls and talk to me instead of messaging someone else and crying like a baby. Heres how the im eould of went.
you "hi Lil, ummm is your AV a child because she looks small" me "lmao, um no it clearly states in my profile i'm not and also I do have tatts and piercings which you must be "18" to get.
I'm just aggitated, sorry again but I would like feedback on this.

I get that as well sometimes since in RL I'm 5'3 and my av is sized to match that, as best as possible anyway since SL really could do with a size indicator for av's. Since I've got a small av, I tend to be mistaken for a kid av, especially when I'm not using the kid av I made myself. Though usually they get a surprise, and a blunt reply, when anyone goes mistaking my adult av with my kid av. Adult av is usually used the most, kid av in a daycare area for the most part since I've had two members accusing me of being something I'm not because they don't understand anything that doesn't conform to 'normal'.
Best thing to do is just ignore the haters, most av's are usually quite tall, so a small av is odd for the majority of members to see.

I think what really struck deeply in me was the fact that I had to stop dancing for a club because of this incident. I became a part of the club a while ago and ever since then have always been there. I guess I felt at the moment of "prejudgemental" towards me from a uknown yellow stripe down your back person that they ripped the club from my heart. Yes after being a member at a place that long you grow into it and it grows into you.
Also I had a glass of wine or two whenI wrote the frist thread here, sorry for the naughty words, i was angrified.
Also, READ PROFILES, ASK, DON'T ASSUME. SL is losing its beautiful individual uniqueness very slowly due to blinded by their own eyes types and sooner or later its gonna be the same AVs for everyone so....

I've been ejected from a club for being 5'3" and called a child avatar. Anyone who knows me KNOWS what a joke that is.
My avatar's face is pierced 69 ways to Sunday and I have tattoo's all over.
It is weird how the abnormal sized avatars discriminate against the normal sized to smaller sized avatars.
What the heck makes a person max out the height slider in the first place?? Especially on the women.

Main problem is most avatars are like, 2m or taller. My avatar is taller than an average human avatar, because mine is NOT human and comes to almost 7 feet which is about right for what I want, yet there are humans TALLER than me =S
SL could do with a metres/feet height measurement, taking into account leg-length, shoes etc.

There is a possibility to do this already: llGetAgentSize(key id) exists. You will not get the exact avatar aize, but you will get the avatar's bounding box height which can be used as a kind of "avatar height description". But the box even may be 0.1 meters to small. Nevertheless:average female avatars are (without heels) more than 2m tall. And if they wear high heels (most do), they even have 2.30m or such.

No,
The appearance shape sliders for height needs to be changed to reflect feet/inches/meters/centimeters so that when a person is creating/adjusting their avatar they can clearly see that they 7ft tall.

[unpopular opinion]
I think we should all just get over it and give it the unimportance it deserves. Really, just lighten up.
Most people have grown accustomed to my little avatar. When I'm at friends' parties, nobody cares that I'm dancing at knee level to an 8' tall stripper.
They know who I am, what I am, how old I am... It's all good clean fun.
They know I'm deeply connected to my avatar as an identity and are usually more troubled when I "big up" for the occasion.
BOO to the countries and laws that fear pixels. Let the people have their world - their imagination back. "Liability" my little birthmarked butt! (=_=)

The OP's unfortunate experience is the fault of the cowardly club owner, who certainly should not have fired her, but instead should have politely explained the situation to the complainer with a calm, diplomaticstatement like, oh, say:
READ HER FRIGGIN' PROFILE YOU SICK, MEATHEADED CREEP!
Bottom line: Find another club. You'll be happier for it.

On behalf of naughty-club-owners everywhere, I'd like to ask that people try not to get upset when somebody asks you about your apparent avatar age. You may just be adult-but-short or have the barely-18 look, or anything like that, but child avatars _do_ show up in these places ( )and Linden has put the responsibilty on us, the owners of these places, to enforce their rules. There's a bunch of steps I usually go thru when I spot somebody who looks like they're under 18 - checking their profile, my IM history/profile notes for them, what they look like, if they talk like Marianne, etc. In the end, if they say they're legal, the final call _always_ depends on the answer to: if a Linden saw you, would they believe you're legal? I'm not trying to excuse paranoid/stupid/ignorant club owners. Just pointing out that we're supposed to look at everybody that walks into our places and make the decision on if they're legal. Dunno about other places but if I ask somebody about this and they give me a hard time or threaten to AR me for height discrimination (which actually happens a lot) or try to get me into a huge morality debate, I'm probably gonna punt you anyway for being such a dork. From: someone llGetAgentSize(key id) That assumes that an SL meter is the same length as an RL one. I'd rather go by the size of furniture, which is usually built to the 'average' size of an adult. edit: From: Lil Jansma you "hi Lil, ummm is your AV a child because she looks small" me "lmao, um no it clearly states in my profile i'm not and also I do have tatts and piercings which you must be "18" to get.. Er.. It's a universal law, both in RL and SL, that you must be 18+ to get pierced or tattooed??

I just made a simple height measuring tool that lets you size up your avatar including attachments and the inaccuracies of the bounding box measurements. It's basically just a scripted tool for manual height measurement, if you want to check it out you can find it in Tarner at 143, 115, 21. Just pop on it and follow the instructions!
Gives my avatar an approximate height of around 7'9"! Though a lot of the time my feet are sank into the ground, but it's quite tall! But then my character isn't human and has long legs so proportionally that's about what I want which is fine.

I really appreciate the replies to my post. Well I guess I can say my AV is probably no bigger than 4-4.5 feet by my guess. Yes very petite and small but adult and clearly staed in my profile and how I carry my AV. As far as the club firing me they didnt actually, I resigned. They offered me options and I refused them only because as I said, my AV is my AV and I aint changing her for nothing or no-one seeing as how I aint doing anything wrong. Actually me and all the club owners of this particular club are great friends and we all had a decent chat on the matter trying to work through thru it but my stubborness and love of my AV prevented me from changing. My biggest problem is the judgement without legitimate proof. If they read my profile and actually thought "oh, tattoos and piercings" then I wouldnt of had this problem. I also think being a hot little AV such as I am I make people jealous and maybe they blindsided me to "get their ends". Haha i'm actually thinking now to open a club that hires ONLY small AVs just to go up some peoples asses. Us small AVs have always had grief since we became a force to reckon with. I been within SL for close to 2-2.5 yers and even back then we were looked down at as pedophile rpers and sick stuff like that. Well anyways again thanks for the responses and feedback. It actually makes me feel a bit better knowing its not only my problem but is and has been others problems also. I can always find a job somewhere else or start my own thing up again. If any of you would like to hangout or talk inworld feel free to message me. i love to chat o and to the universal law of piercings and tattoos, no it isnt a law but legitimately you must be 18 to get something in a commercial shop UNLESS you get a parents signature and even that i dont know the youngest you can be. I'd guess 16, unless you go to some hack who works out of his house but for the most part I would guess more adults have ink/piercings than kids. Not such a good example but it does help my point as far as my AVs age goes.

If I had a Linden for every time someone sent me an IM saying there was a child avie at one of my sites...
99% of the time they are just small avies. I tell my security guards if the avie has pigtails, a frilly little dress, knee socks, a lollypop, and a shirt that says "I <3 Daddy", then they can eject them.
Height is NO indicator of age.

If someone has a problem with your petite AV, and says it's a child AV even though the tattoos and piercings are obvious...then they are idiots.
As long as you don't have a school girl outfit on, pig tails, and a lollypop...then you are all set.

I have to make that call all the time when various av's TP into my shop wanting to buy the gear I sell. And 1 meter in RL does *not* equal 1 meter in SL. the scale is off. I've posted about this until my fingers bleed, so go search the Animation forum if you want the details.

Although I think they were just using the stereotype to make a point. Speech, mannerisms, etc, all can play a part too. And the scripted diapers... well, lets just say those make me cringe

Hmm, the height measure I made has had a few visits thus far. My findings of a group of 10 are that people are an average of 2.07m tall, and the measurement given by llGetAgentSize() is on average 0.45m (actual size is 0.45m taller than it suggests).
Interesting I think, but I suspect furries (who mostly visit my store) have a generally taller population.
