Haravikk,
That's where we came in - my argument is that it doesn't because everyone who puts money in wins some back, even if the amount they win back is less than they put in and the wording of the policy is that it only covers situations when the *winner* is determined by chance not the *winnings*
Problem is no-one knows what view LL will take, just as Collete pointed out, it will very much depend whether someone AR's a sploder, and the whim of the Linden who deals with the AR.

From: Haravikk Mistral Does this include things like exploders? Where people can put money into a pot and the money then is given out randomly to everyone who put money in? In spite of some folks obstinate insistence that 'sploders aren't a random number generated lottery, they are indeed just such a thing. They are against the TOS now.

From: Nack Barnes In spite of some folks obstinate insistence that 'sploders aren't a random number generated lottery, they are indeed just such a thing. They are against the TOS now. Nowhere have I claimed that sploders aren't a random number generated lottery - however can you point me to where it says "random number generated lotteries are banned" in the new policy? It doesn't - it says "rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner" - it also says "If your game or contest does not meet the above criteria, it is not restricted under this policy" Sploders do not use chance or random number to determine the winner of a payout - anyone who enters wins a payout, so taken if the policy is taken at face value they shouldn't be restricted However I have no doubt that LL will include sploders in the ban on the basis that they are "random number generated lotteries", but that is NOT what their policy ACTUALLY states. Unfortunately, the way the policy is worded there is (as Draco indicates) a somewhat ludicrous loophole! Matthew

From: Matthew Dowd Unfortunately I suspect you are right.
Pity as it will be another dent in LL's credibility and yet further errosion of customer loyalty which will be important when a SL competitor comes along (which I suspect is just a matter of time).
Matthew To be honest - More direct competition would probably make for a better Secondlife. Not only would the fact they have competition mean they would have to improve in order to remain competitive, But it would also mean they werent the only ones negotiating this legal minefield of a virtual world trying to be a 3d internet with a convertable currency and whats allowed based on laws.

From: Brenda Connolly RL gambling is allowed in CA in the form of horse racing and lotteries. New York has Horse Racing, Lotteries, and there are Casinos run by variuos Indian Tribes. Also there is a form of On line gambling in you can bet on Horses online through OTB. a specially enacted law for california residents and also highly regulated -- but yeah i was speaking in broad strokes the point is the same 95 percent of gambling has only been allowed in las vegas and atlantic city in the united states, so it should be of no suprise to the creators of the game that wagering on sl was illegal at very least in theory

It doesn't - it says "rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner" - it also says "If your game or contest does not meet the above criteria, it is not restricted under this policy" Let me clarify this: Is llRandom() used in the script to determine payouts? Yes.
