Usually it's just 'turn up at the advertised time and join in.' Sometimes you end up at a central point and have to TP to the designated classroom, but that's usually no biggie.

Most classes with size limits have a set number of spaces so you may want to show up a little early to grab a space. A few I've been to have a set number of supply kits to hand out. If you're not in time to grab a space, many instructors will let you hang out and observe, and frequently the class will be offered again at another time as well.

Ok, that doesn't sound too intimidating. :)
I'll check out the listings. Thanks Nic.

Once again I'm overwhelmed by how many nice people there are in this world!!

I did pick up on one thing though, my name Sandy as in Alexander. With hindsight picking a unisex name may not have been my greatest idea.

I wasn't sure if I had been invited on a girls day out or not and thought it might be a shock when I turned up! I think I'll definately take up that offer of having a portrait done. That can be tonights fun! Never the less I would love to be taken around and helped with shopping, that sounds ideal!

Last night I ended up in Dream Island (I think it was called) and I picked up the whole dancing thing. I think I nearly made my first social blunder by dancing with somebody without really asking permission. I was standing on a ball and doing the tango on my own (?) and a lady nearby offered that if I clicked her head I could copy her dance. Later on I saw people asking her permission to dance and I thought "Oooops. CLANG" But anyway I apologised and she seemed ok about it. It was just good listening to a complete random mix of music that I hadn't heard for years.

I went to the Blarney Stone and also the bar in Cymru whose name escapes me. I've set my self up on Paypal so I'll get myself some money tonight.

Second Life? Brilliant.

Hey Sandy,

Good to hear you´re having fun!

The name thing might be somewhat confusing I´d have to admit ;)

As to the lady and the dance....... she was most likely wearing a dance machine that allows others to share her dance. You can get whole groups of people dancing the same dance simultaneously that way.

It is perfectly normal for someone wearing one of those to tell everyone in a room to join in. Count yourself lucky she was wearing it on her head :D

There are also individual dances you can use from your inventory as animations played in world without using poseballs or other people´s dance machines, which is what I tend to do cause I'm fussy about dances. Pretty sure there are free ones out there, you could check Sarah Nerd´s freebie paradise for a box of free animations.

You can also buy nicer dance animations from various animations stores, such as abranimations, sine wave island and many others I can't for the life of me remember the names of. If you want more names let me know.

Also, as others have said, check out the live music scene! Great fun, nice crowds, dancing and a laugh all in one.

Keep on enjoying!

We need another group shopping trip. :)

Welcome Sandy :)

I wonder if we need a Cartel Shopping Group! LOL

I love these newcomer threads. Perfect opportunity for even some of us oldbies to pick up a few landmarks we otherwise missed

Trout mentions the music .. I've always had a wide acceptance of music and am equally delighted with the diversity across SL .. except for Rap Some voices are sonorous enough to be self supporting and even attractive but Rap .... <insert expletive here> .. Sorry rappers, just one halflings opinion LOL.
Yes, a friend can more than double your enjoyment and yes, check out stuff that you wouldn't dream of in real life. There's a whole world out there .. in there .. whatever!
In fact, I'm reminded of a Douglas Adams scenario where there's a guy, alone, in a house on a beach, with curtains outside with wallpaper and inside, weatherproofing whatever, grass floor I think. He calls it 'outside the asylum'. When he goes through the door to the beach, he's 'inside the asylum' Virtual worlds could head that way, speaking philosophically ;)

Sandy, the name. It's a good name. Alex would have been as gender confusing mebbe But hey! think of the plus side - you can make an opposite gender avie without having to create an alt :) Only problem there of course is when you bump into the same friends heh heh.
Oh and the name in Cymru .... Taff's Bar. Even if you don't become a regular here, going back to see what Fred's done with the place every month or so is a must .. he had a really sweet scenic railway there a while back. Might still have ... might have it again LOL

A Cartel girl's night out is both a blast, and a VERY useful deal for anyone. I think I was the first, and speak from a wonderful experience. In my case, it was for my female alt who needed serious tweaking in the "image" and hair departments.

So, you were invited on a girl's shopping trip -- go with it! Create a female alt and have a ball. You will learn a lot about a lot -- not the least of which is that the ladies of this Forum are the greatest friends a man can have!

Take money. Take lots of money.

Any shopping trip, if you're like me....lol We'll have to plan something. Sandy, IM us. You'll probably get at least one of us online.
I was going to mention Free Dove, too, only someone else did. They have some really nice quality things there by top SL designers, and you can also get free hair, as well as vouchers for any style of your pick at Gurl 6, and someplace else. (I think Calla)

Okay ... have ya'll gone shopping yet???? I wanna go too!!! Group shopping can be fun - you can go to some of those places and bring some vendors *down*. hehe ...

Welcome to Second Life Sandy!!!

It's ok Eve, it's only Slacks viewer. I had a quiet word in Gandalfs ear and he *fixed* it.

We thought the rest of his generation needed protection from him ;)

Yes, the last time a gal asked me to click one of those, I had to pat her on the ass. :D

Sync'd dances with a bunch of folks are fun. You can get whole formations going, almost like square dancing.

Hey...THAT'S something I haven't seen in SL. How about it, you clever scripters and animators? Square dancing!
