O.K. A couple weeks after i started SL I was renting a room in a castle and had this max. size cylindrical room and i wanted a 2nd floor to it so it would be all loft like - but i had no idea how to do it! So i paid someone $175L to rez a cylinder, widen it to the size of the room, put a cut in it big enough for me to fly through and set it in place. Yes i paid someone for that! I think that was pretty dumb...but i learned

Oh goodie...I'll share this one:
I was probably a week old, and was standing in a garden admiring the work that went into it.
Suddenly a girl (woman) appeared from behind the trees and asked me to follow her, which I did.
The next thing I know we're in a two-story house which had a lot of furniture and blue/pink poseballs scattered about.
She then says: "take off your clothes". So I did.
Then she said: "but you don't have a penis".
I replied, "I know. This default male avatar didn't come with one." =)
"Doesn't matter", she says.
And then I was on top of her via clicking a pose ball she directed me to...which initiated a wild set of animations... and then my RL wife walked into the room...gave a glance at the screen, snorted and said, "meh".
lol

I had all these cool plans to script animated attachments based on the avatar's posture, and spent a couple of hours hacking on it before I realized that the avatar wasn't actually changing its position as far as the server was concerned.

Not dumb, so much as WTF. I was a couple months old when I started going to this club called Farenheit. People were pretty nice there, so I hung out a lot. One day they installed a mudwrestling pit, and people were having a great time with it. I wrestled a couple of women and lost, then wrestled my buddy Orion and kicked his ass.
Then a little girl avatar showed up and wanted me to wrestle her. I told her I wasn't going to wrestle with a child avatar, so she called me a pedophile.
My reaction was o_0

I spent non-zero L$ on what turned out to be a freebie vehicle, which I then couldn't work out how to use. It was there in inventory, obviously I have to get it out in-world... right-click and damn, there's no 'drop' or 'rez' option. How do I get it where I can use it? I *could* attach it, but that seems wrong. Try it anyway? Ahh, now it's stuck to my head. Detach.
*frustration* I'll come back to this later.
Lather, rinse, repeat. Jet bike on head. This game bites.
Eventually, with the bike on my head once more, I notice there's a pie-option to drop it. Hurray! I do so. Right-click... 'ride'. Ha, this is so easy.
It crashes. Again and again. And I was going to be so cool on my jet-bike! I get it working, briefly, then I cross a sim-border. I spiral into the landscape, through a hill and off into the void. For ages. My coordinate counter shows 18000m north or something. Suddenly I'm back where I started, stuck in a biker pose. My bike is returned to inventory.
Gahhh! Back to square one.
But now, of course, I know the 'attach-to-head-then-drop' trick. I can try again.
Except now I can't drop it. As you've guessed, I had moved into a 'no-rez' parcel, but at the the time I didn't have a clue about such things. It felt like the game was moving the goalposts.
Later I learned you drag objects from inventory. Doh. And you can't rez in no-rez areas, vehicles in SL often misbehave and crossing sim borders can be a lottery.
And you don't pay good money for freebies.

Spending hours and days camping and finding camping spots and trying to keep the camping spots and making my computer overheat with the camping.
That's pretty much number one dumb for me.

I spent the first few weeks wandering the grid not realizing that you had to wear the shoe base with shoes. I kept trying to edit my heels to look right. Finally a mentor at help island sent me an im and told me.

Finally a mentor at help island sent me an im and told me. I kind of did the reverse of that... I wore one of the newbie avatars, which had attachments for the shoes (like a little heel-flash). When I changed the shoes (shoe base) I still had these little attachments on, and I couldn't work out that they weren't part of the shoes.

Making L$ 8,000 in gambling over two weeks in SL and getting really pissed off with real life and suicide gambled it all away in minutes.

Oh so many things!
Like the freebie house I rezd and inadvertently attached to myself. I panicked and hit PgUp and flew with house attached - finally detatched it at about 60 m up and hit the 'stop flying' button. I fell to the ground and my camera kept with me and I lost sight of the house. I didn't realise it was still rezd up in the sky - until a neighbour came up and said - "Do you know you've left a house in the sky?".
Oh my! Well I edited it back down and for the first time noticed the "Physical" check box on the edit window. "I wonder what that does?", I thought and set it on and closed the edit.
I stood there with this guy beside me and watched the house slowly collapse, prim by prim, into a big pile of rubble.

I remember flying around an empty cityscape and bumping into banlines, not knowing what they were. Then I crossed onto a parcel that was streaming techno music, so I thought it obviously must be a club (i didn't know anything about parcel media streams). I proceeded to spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how to enter this mythical club and having no success. I didn't know anything about green dots and the mini-map, so I didn't know I was completely alone in the sim. The music would disappear when I moved off the parcel so I thought I was getting too far away... it became a game of hot and cold. I'd move back closer until I heard music and kept trying to find an entrance. In retrospect, I think the parcel was just a private residence and the doors were locked.

Let's see ... something dumb from my n00b days?
Xcite and pixel sex. Does that count?
Or .... picking the name "Lolita", not knowing that years later anything that even hinted that you might be a child ageplayer would put you under the microscope.
Getting my first free skin upgrade and thinking I was smoking hot. OMG ... I look at my old pictures and laugh.

hmm... Well.. not early on but recently I made a outfit prim skirt panties and top.. well.. apparently the panties did not "take" and I spent an hour at a show with no panties untill my friend happend to say "Oh I see your butt." when we tped into another show... It probably would not been a problem except that it took forever for my prim skirt to rezz! If avatars could turn red.. tarina would have been.... Not one person commented on it so, 1 either they didnt notice or 2 they liked the view. Point is, no matter how seasoned you think you are.... once a noob always a noob
as a new person.. I recall.. I accepted a free beer from a cooler and BAM distorted ava.. and and once... I was in a sandbox and someone attached a follow script or somethig to me and I had big red letters following me around said NOOB!
ahh, also.. I got one of those freebie flower thingies and new to owning my land I rezzed the ugly ass thing.. so I deleted.. well it came in parts and I could not for the life of me get the part that was horribly ugly gone.. (duh ctrl+t was not known to me) anyway I had to call the sim owner and he helped me.. didnt even laugh at me. lol

A friend of mine was explaining things and gave me instructions to put on the Zebra avatar (I think it's in the library?) ... at which point, I turned into a zebra.
Then he had to log out.
So there I was. A zebra.
Realise that I did not understand much back then. I didn't realise this wasn't permanent, though I had some inkling that I could change form again, somehow.
For three days I trotted around, watching everyone else going about their business. But who talks to a zebra?
Finally I couldn't take it any more.
"Help me!!!" I brayed, to any who would listen.
Eventually, I got help, and the rest is history.
Had it gone down differently, perhaps I would have had an African Savanna estate...

OMG there are so many, I had no friends in SL and didn't know mentors existed until I had been in SL over a year so I learned all on my own.
I walked around with my left shoe up my butt for at least 3 days before someone told me how to take it off.
I got my first L$ and bought a shirt, I thought I was savvy now cause I knew how to rez and wear things. I wore the shirt and ended up with a box on my head. I went back to the store and found the creators name, it was on a sign in the store, found him in search and chewed him out for "stealing" my 300L!!! and only giving me a box! God love the man, he replied so nicely and calmly and explained how boxes worked. I was so ashamed I almost quit the game.
But the best is this: I had just moved into my first parcel and the land owner gave me a 35 minute lecture on rules. I was quite nervous that being a noob I would make a mistake and get kicked out.
Just a day before I had picked up a freebie box and so I started going through it to see what kind of "cool" stuff I got. I found a "business in a box" and thought "Way cool!"
I rezzed it in the middle of the sim thinking it would be a box, it was not a box, it was the entire store and inventory! Over 2,000 prims. Not knowing that I could select more than one prim at a time I spent the next two hours taking each and every prim back into my inventory, all the while terrified that the land owner would come back and kick me out!
Lesson learned!

In my first day or two, back in September 2006, I streaked round one or two of the top clubs in SL - I remember doing Sanctuary Rock and The Edge.
It sounds a bit noobish, but I still do that sort of thing now, occasionally, but only where I know the people!!!
