Hello Everyone i've been in SL since July this year but have not really played much because of things going on in my RL. Now i'm back and i want too start.

So first i'd like too say hello too everyone and then ask what can i do here on SL and what are some decent male stores that are not too high priced for clothing and skins etc?

Thanks

Howl.

Hi Howl, welcome to SL. There are way too many things going on in the metaverse to summarize. Though, what I recommend is, think first what type of activities you find interesting, then search for groups on this matter, join them, meet people. Or you may also look in Events for places and activities that might appeal to you. What's good about events is that at least, you know someone else is going to be there.
Try also the Showcase and Places tabs under Search. SL is a huge place. Your wants are surely going to change with time, so take time and explore.

Welcome Howl.

Them's some tough questions.

For what to do? What do you like?

For example, in the last month, I've played in sandboxes trying to build stuff...gone on horse rides, balloon rides, skiing, sailing, clubbing, hanging out with friends, private parties, dates, and explored more fantastic builds than you can shake a stick at.

Skin and clothing is another big question. There are some good stores out there..but it depends on what style you're shooting for. There are good stores out there, but most focus on one look. So it helps to know what you have in mind.

You might start by checking out some blogs. A good starter is the Men's Second Style blog: http://www.second-man.com/

It has a good archive, tries to keep up on free/cheap quality items, and has links to other good menswear related blogs.

My personal opinion though is to cough up $20 or so, and outfit yourself in style. In world, your avatar is your first impression. It pays to make it a good one. You can get a quality AO, top quality skin, and good quality wardrobe basics. Once you're at that point, you can take your time adding things as you run across them.

For good, basic male clothing that's relatively inexpensive, try SF Designs. Going more upmarket, try Armidi, Aitui, Muism and Argrace, and the male section (upstairs) at LE.LOOK sim. For more casual and grungy stuff, try FORM, or any of the other stores at The Block (Varado sim). For skins, there's a good free skin offer at Belleza to start you off (join their group, go to the store, click the box just inside the door on the left with group tag active). When looking at skins, get a *lot* of demos and try them all on.

Watch blogs, especially:

http://www.slmen.com/
http://www.second-man.com/
http://shopwithtakeshi.blogspot.com/

Freebie blogs that often feature male content include:

http://slondlist.blogspot.com/ (frequent free male content - designer items)
http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/ (only very occasionally)
http://freefindsformen.blogspot.com/ (infrequently updated - join the inworld group)
http://freeformen.wordpress.com/ (infrequently updated)
http://sl4nowt.wordpress.com/ (occasional male items)

Hi Calveen i'll have a look around and use the search too see what i can find.

Hi Jerboa, I'm not really one for exploring i have a pretty low attention span so i don't think rides, building and looking around builds would be good for me. I'm a more get into the action kinda guy i guess.

mmmm Clothing ok so nothing grungy normal style clothing would be great and a semi good skin. I am looking around and have been given a few lm's etc.

Money i've put in a little this morning though i can't afford too after that. I've recently lost my job in RL so can't afford too put too much money in at the mo until i find another job.

I have a AO from Vista, a ok skin i guess, my shape i did myself though i'm unsure if it's great and i have a couple of decent outfits and some hair at the moment.

I'm sorry if this sounds horrible lol but who is Honey?

Lol! I am Honey and I have a reputation for taking on new residents and helping them "dress for success" in SL.

At the moment however, I am at the airport seeing my mother off after the holidays. I will check back in after I get home, but you're getting some good advice here. GL and wb to SL!

Edited to Add:

Oh before i forget, is there any like lucky chairs or camping chairs out there for male clothing that you might know of?

*chuckles*

Of course and i did not really mean that kind of action lol. I want too be a dancer so i'm gonna need one of "those" but i'm one of very few males who joined onto SL not looking for sexual gratification.

Howl,
What you do depends upon your interests. One thing about SL is that there is so much here.

For example, several church groups have services and discussions here if you are religious. Or you could join me for some exciting discussions with lawyers from around the US and the world about the proper drafting of statutes and regulations (really exciting )

Of course, your interests are probably elsewhere (assuming you are normal, not like me). I don't know that much about male things on SL. I know that there are plenty of dance clubs and lots of sex. I wouldn't know first hand, but that's what I hear. I am also very interested in fashion, both buying and making (mainly buying, I am not very good at making). But that is one thing that would be more of interested to us females, I guess.

So think of what interests you, and look for that. We are all different, but, for whatever floats your boad, there are probably others with the same interests.

Hi Mary thanks for the advice, maybe your right i'll think about what interests me in RL and see if something shows up in SL. I mean for one thing i do an awful lot is play RPG games in RL i love the structured role of the character and a already pre made story as well lol. Maybe i could look into SL for a kind of Roleplay.

I'm sort of normal lol but i did not join SL for sex i have a comfortable relationship in RL and would not want too ruin that by starting something in SL.

I'm am though quite curious about being a exotic dancer in SL.

What kinda action? There are some combat-related RP sims out there, in several themes from old west to post-apocalyptic to fantasy/sci-fi.

And I know of one organization that does (aerial) dogfighting.

As well as a few racing, and sports leagues, and a fencing group.

Is that the kind of action you mean?

Hi Howl, welcome~!!

You've got plenty of good advice here already, but if you're looking for some interesting RPG, might I suggest October Country. It's a great sim dedicated to classic horror stories (they stream old radio shows nightly so folks can sit around a camp fire and listen to Edgar Allen Poe or Ray Bradberry and so on) They also have some really fun RPG going on in their town of Innsmouth.

As for getting your avatar look.....lots of freebie stuff available, including skins and hair. Check out Bryce designs for Hair....and ETD or Bewitched, all have deals for new folks and discounted stuff. If you want to mess around with your basic shape...I have some free shapes available at my place (House of Body) and they are all copy/modify. I'm another one that likes to adopt new folks and help em get their avatar groove on. ;)

Honestly, even if your attention span is lacking.....the best way to know what to 'do' in SL is explore. What ever interests you might have....it's almost guaranteed they exist in SL. For fun....go into search, places....and just type in a key word that would be connected to something you're interested in. (examples: haunted, midevil, dragon, ruins, steampunk, cyber....) You get the idea.... just have fun!

Hi Jerboa, not really sure yet what kind of action i'm looking for. I'll just have a look around and hopefully i'll come across something.

Hi Milla, i've checked alot of the free places and have found some reccommendations for free or dollerbie hair on the SL Universe Forum. I'll have a look at Orange County and see what i think thanks for the tip. Also thanks for the offer of shapes, i'll come over and have a look too.

I'll try search and typing in keywords, once that is i figure what i wanna do on here.

Hi Howl,

If you can invest just a bit of money in your skin, search for Mac Ayres. His skin packs are $L777 at his shop, and have so many options (including tinting) that you will probably never have to buy another skin. I just replaced my expensive Dante skin, when it appeared that I would have to spend $L1800 for a shave!

The shapes (you get several) are a little over the top for my taste, but are moddable. Buy a demo first of course, but all in all the best deal I've seen for this quality and versatility.
