Hi,
When I'm using the search feature in my inventory, how do I get it to display, for example, only all the things with the word "ode" in them, without also displaying ever single thing that includes that combination of letters within a larger word, like "model" for example. I've tried using quotes, and parentheses, but those don't do it.
Sorry to be a pain, I know it's probably something really obvious I am missing.
Thanks,

From: Cristalle Karami You can't. What? You've got to be kidding. What a pain in the neck, especially if you've got a big inventory. You know what else I don't like? When you have most of your folders closed, and you drag an item from one folder to another, and every single folder you have opens. ARGH. Come on, Linden, these shouldn't be difficult things to fix. I used to hate Windows, but, you know, they've managed to master some things regarding file control that I wish Linden would learn from. Thanks anyway.

There are a few things you can do to help.
One is to open more than one inventory window. Makes dragging and dropping much easer. Drag from one and drop in the other.
You can also show filters. From there, you can select to display items by type (clothing, landmarks, gestures, etc.) and also filter just like recent items but with the addition of a time limit. Show things that are only 2 hours old, or 2 days. Anyway, just open the filters view and its pretty straight forward on what you can do.
But unfortuantly the search is a straight sub-string matchup. No -word opperators or the like.

you can whittle it down by using filters - so if you are looking for a certain kind of thing, you can limit the results. but beyond that, no, search is pretty anemic.

The only thing that really helps is keeping your inventory organized by creating folders and placing similar things together. I just (finally) 'organized' mine recently. I hadn't reached the 3000 mark yet, but it was starting to be difficult to find stuff because of exactly what you described about inventory search. As for the other problem you're having, folders opening, I started a mini-thread a few days ago about this as I was finding it frustrating. Hope it helps, it helped me... /327/ca/243168/1.html

Remember when the "recent items" function worked?

I thought you could add a space before/and after the letters to do this..
Or have I misunderstood the OP?

DOH!
What Meade said. As long as there is a space before the word in the inventory name, your golden

From: Lindal Kidd My problem's the opposite. My folders don't expand, even when I try and drop something on one of them. Huh? That IS strange, and probably just as frustrating. Lately, myself and others have been having problems with the 'Recent' tab with all folders in there opening up each time we change something. I would also like to know if it's possible to copy a whole folder (said folder incl), providing all the items are copy, of course. At the moment, I have to create a new folder, then copy each item into it. *sigh* You gotta love 'Inventory'.

From: Kaimi Kyomoon Remember when the "recent items" function worked? It still works. You just have to reset the setting so that it only shows items since login. To the OP - Organizing your inventory with subfolders is helpful. Using additional inventory windows is helpful. Not being a pack rat is extremely helpful. I'm astounded when non-creator users inform me that they have over 30,000 items in inventory after having been in SL for less than a year.

Thanks to everyone for your input. This all came up because I am trying to organize my monster inventory into folders that make sense. I do often have 2 windows open (that's a great tip, for those of you that didn't know you could do it) for dragging back and forth. And I have been using inventory filters, but, duh, was only filtering on "most recent" style searches. Completely forgot that I can rule out other categories, and only search for "objects" or "clothing" or something instead. Thank you for reminding me!
Lots of good advice here for the rest of the forum readers - thanks everyone for offering some very helpful tricks!

Look for the Reset Filters menu item.. Not in the main SL menu bar, the one in the inventory window.

From: Lindal Kidd My problem's the opposite. My folders don't expand, even when I try and drop something on one of them. Okay, I think I see what you mean. I'm using Windlight right now and my 'Recent' tab is acting up. I'm not able to reset filters (showing me stuff from yesterday) and I have a many folders in there which will not expand!!! The little triangle points up or down when I click it, but no cigar.
