If your sim is crashing a lot, contact the help people. I did and they were surprisingly helpful. On the sim, our physics numbers were always near zero. Apparently that doesn't mean a lot. There were 2 seemingly harmless fish rezzers that did almost nothing according to the stats. I had a hard time believing it when the Linden told me that these were definately causing the crashes. We've had zero crashes since I returned those objects.
Now I've just got to find a way to reduce the lag without destroying the businesses that are causing it.

From: Argos Hawks Now I've just got to find a way to reduce the lag without destroying the businesses that are causing it. Is that necessarily a bad thing? Sure, it hurts the businesses that produce lag-causing objects, but it's better for the SL community as a whole if they stop producing lag-causing objects!!! People buy these things and use them having no idea that they're going to be the cause of all their future lagging and crashing. Then again, if you kick them off the estates, they'll just move to mainland and lag up the mainland sims.

Then again, if you kick them off the estates, they'll just move to mainland and lag up the mainland sims. Well, I prefer to help the business in question to improve their product, rather than hurt their business. I have approached many people about extremely laggy items they make, and so far most have been very receptive to the feedback, and quite happy when I showed them some ways to make their items more sim friendly. In particular there is one freebie script that I wish LL would wipe off the grid, and that is the Texture Animation script by Billie Sunchaser. So many people use this, not realizing it was written back in 2004, before the llSetTextureAnim() function was implemented. As a result it does all the texture animating manually, an item with a couple of these scripts in it can reach 1ms of script time easily! Switching over to llSetTextureAnim() not only reduces this to near nothing, it looks much smoother, as it's now clientside. For the sake of everyone, don't use that script!

Then again, if you kick them off the estates, they'll just move to mainland and lag up the mainland sims. They're not businesses that create laggy objects. They just have a ton of things for sale, several vendors, and many many scripts and textures that are all harmless on their own but cumulatively lag the sim. Not only are these businesses owned by close friends, but they are also paying for about half the island, so I will be working with them to improve things where we can. And I'll keep hoping for the Mono upgrade to come along and save us from ourselves.
