Well to be honest I'm a lil confused
2.4 ghts duo-core, 2 gig ram
I removed an 8600gt 512 ram
and installed the gtx250
no improvement whatso ever, did I do something wrong?
you folks seem pretty knowledgeable about these things, what should I check?

Also running Vista, debating whether to go back to XP or move up to Win7

I didnt really even look at the 250 how much ram is on it?

the 285 I am running is the 1024 Ram one which pretty much doubled what I had with my ATI's so I expected a major jump in performance.

The GTX250 is 1024 as well
still confused on what to "play with" the advanced setting in sl?

Try these things:

Under the advanced menu (next to Help, CTRL-ALT-D brings it up if you don't see it) go to Rendering, and check Run multiple threads.

In graphics preferences, move the slider to Ultra. See if that doesn't look better than the 8600GT did, or run faster than the 8600 did on Ultra.

In graphics preferences, there's a button called Hardware Options. Press it, and in the menu there, check the box for Anisotropic filtering, and then set Antialiasing to 4x.

That should look better than you were getting from the 8600GT, and run fast.

My work now has an official H1N1 policy. If I need a day to set up SL, I just need to cough every time my boss walks by.

Ok
seems to be better, however, under graphics/hardware options
it's not seeing the 1024, 512 is as high as the slider will go
any suggestions?

thanks

The current viewer only uses up to 512MB of video memory.

Just to confuse all you folks with your flashy graphics cards. The replacement Nvidia 220 card I ordered arrived and it works OK. The SL viewer reported it as unrecognised, so I set up a custom graphics configuration... (NOTE to LL: please make grafix and/or all viewer preferences saveable)... SO I'll be able to do my shows this weekend. Phew. Life goes on.

The process of installing the drivers was interrupted so many times by Kaspersky Internet Security that I uninstalled it and replaced it with AVG free out of frustration.
