I once took a peek at some Dune themed sim, which included sandworms and everything. I can't remember where it was though :(

There are also a lot of Star Trek sims, both good and bad ones. There's a really nice one that rents rooms on a starship for example.

I'd like to find a good V themed sim sometime, or a Buck Rogers sim. And maybe also sims themed after Kevin J. Andersons' Saga's of the 7 suns, or Larry Nivens' Ringworld.

If only I had the resources, I'd really like to make a sim themed after Anne McCaffreys' crystal world. But it'd be pretty hard to make such a thing in an adult yet tasteful manner that would remain recognizable to those who've actually read those books, and interesting regardless of the angle of the books the visitor prefers.

Bladerunner City (multi-level, so take a flight feather and really dig around there), Doomed Ship (which I think is in the process of being moved) and even though it's not SF, if you're wanting to do any Blade Runner-style roleplay, then Kowloon sim is an excellent stand-in for Los Angeles 2019.

Agreed - the BladeRunner sim is superb. I remember the initial development being done on one of my sims, which I unfortunately sold off a while back.

The recreation of the White Dragon bar, where Gaff first found Deckard, is just awesome. I could spend hours in there!

Oh wow, looks fabulous - LOL - that sim has come on a bit in the last year (or maybe I am thinking of a different BladeRunner sim - the one I am thinking of had a huge replica of the Tyrell tower). Shouldn't that sim be set to night anyway?

Second order issue - when I first visited LA (and last visited it), one of my favourite sights was Union railway station - which was also used for the set for the police station right at the start of the film. I also popped into the Bradbury building downtown, which still has the original elevator, etc., as used in JR Sebastian's abandoned apartments in the film - and across the road, the Chinese market (Mexican in RL...). To my shock, I found these sights about ten times more interesting than Universal Studios, which was a pile of tack. Even the LAX architecture provided more stimulation than Universal Studios.

I think I would be the same. If you have (or can get) the five-disc collectors edition of the movie, there is a whole disc dedicated to the making of Blade Runner, and some interesting info on how Ridley Scott re-used many many areas and props over and over. The Bradbury was one area I know he used at least twice: as JF Sebastian's apartment, and also as the place where Leon was staying (watch for Deckard and Gaff walking out of from between those distinctive pillars in an aerial shot).

They also accidentally set fire to the model of the Tyrell building...

One of the best sections on that disc (I'm digressing, I know) focused on the late Jordan Cronenweth and his use of light in the movie. When I was watching that, not only did I realise the guy was a genius cinematographer, but I also wished we had the ability to light areas of SL like that.

I'll have to look out for that disc set. I actually threw out about 200 DVDs a few months ago to reduce my "stuff" in preparation for a move overseas, but the move didn't work out for some reason. I kept my copy of BladeRunner though, one of the few movies I could not live without maybe wanting to watch on a week to week basis. That, and Gattaca of course....

Now, if someone made a Gattaca sim... that would be superb... (/me checks his bank balance... oooh, maybe....)

Privateer Space.

Well. . .the way it was before Aley stomped on her toys and stormed off.

Privateer Space was fun in a slightly camp, Flash Gordon kind of way. Great freebies too... I still have the spacesuit and a couple of spaceships.

For Firefly/Serenity fans, there's a cool build at Washburn (appropriate site there guys).

One thing about Privateer Space, which I don't believe can be said about any of the other sims to my knowledge, is that it was totally non commercial, and, primarily standalone, that is, it wasn't based on Blade Runner, Star Trek, Serenity, or any other franchise.

That being said, Aley DID pay homage to a lot of sci fi franchises and cliches. Everything from Pigs in Space, to Silent Running.

I finally got to fly an Eagle Transporter. Hell, I own one thanks to her. And a Millenium Falcon. . .Space Bug. . .Moon Buggy. . .Martian riding lizard. . .

Oh, and after some searching I found back the Dune sim: Splintered Rock.
Before leaving the spacestation to the ground, I would advice to wear something appropriate, there are some acceptably good freebies available on the landing zone for that, including a titler for tourists. etc.

I just visited Bladerunner City, which I'll admit is a fantastic build. The owners might want to do something about this, though...

[4:38] Smoke Welcome Mat 1.1: Welcome Kelli May, you can personalize this message and also change the size, texture and name of the mat.

One greeter maybe, edit some of the notecard lines, and stop offering me red roses! It's a small quibble, maybe, but this sort of thing has put me off places so much that I've TPd out before textures have loaded.

Ya, I do miss Privateer Space. I was reminded heavily of it while I played in Mos Ainsley yesterday. It was well done, but sterile and dry. It lacked the things that made Privateer Space so darn good.

'course, I miss Aley more than Privateer space, but that's beside the point of the thread.

I have ot toss in a recommendation for Planet Mongo, by Lumiere Noir. Very 1930s sci fi, an a great place to fly a Flash Gordon or Comnmander Cody ship in.

You might be thinking of the Cyberpunk city built around the Abranimations original store. I can't remember the sim name now, but it was amazing. The reflection effects were just mind-blowing back in 2005.

Planet Mongo. The only sim in SL that has that Golden Age Sci-Fi theme that I have seen. I read at NWN blog that Rezzable will have have its Plasma City sim rebuilt with a raygun gothic theme.
