From: Brenda Connolly I get the same , when people come up to me at a party and want to discuss The Magna Charta, or the Battle of Hastings, before I've even had my first glass of wine. The nerve of some people! It must be hell!

I don't give a damn if a celebrity is in a Cola or Pepsi ad; I don't drink either so will not be buying it.
Also, someone who is a celebrity in America is not necessarily known in the UK, Germany. Japan or Australia and the same would apply wherever they came from, apart from big stars.
So best leave them in RL unless they want to come to SL incognito as we all do.

Well, come to think of it, Sylvester Stallone advertises canned ham in Japan; Sharon Stone does scotch? (I think); a lot of US celebs get paid to advertise overseas where they don't care if people see them. Who knows, it might be the same for them in SL.

Goddamn, could you pick a better spokesperson for either of those products? truth be told, I don't get giggly over RL celebs, i've met more than my share thanks to family connections and just walking around the streets of New York. I've never asked for an autograph. I'll see their movie , or buy their records, but they have no highr station in life to me than the guy who I get my coffee and bagel from. Although, there is a certain 3rd baseman for the New York Mets who I wouldn't mind riding a crowded Subway Train with...or a particular NASCAR Driver who I'd share a backseat with......

From: Avion Raymaker I am blown away by celebs in RL. It's embarrassing for me to admit it, but I am. I can't turn away from the tabloid headlines in the grocery store checkout lane.
In SL, I couldn't care less about celebrities, and would think it was stupid if I saw an endorsement by one. In my RL, I've been lucky enough to know celebs at any number of levels: well known writers, stars of stage and (large an small) screen, a few top political names, etc. If anyting, it's taught me dat they're jes peoples. A lot of them are actually a little shy about all the "celebrity status" stuff, from my experience. I'd tink the same of thems in here, too. There is, hpwever, a lot to be said about name recognition, but I'd tink it best to let "big name designer" explore the world, before tryin to milk the name. Mari (Who ain't gonna name no names, either)

Im kinda guilty of remembering the character and not the celeb that plays it.
Will be "That guy in the .. Movie"
Or "That woman from .. TV Show "
Is very rare I remember the persons name unless they are mega-famous.

They wouldn't know me any more than they would know any other random humanoid.

Is very rare I remember the persons name unless they are mega-famous. I sometimes attach a characters name to a person, or their real name to the person, and then get stuck with that in my mind. Loved Archie Leach, and Marion Morrison. "oh look, Thomas Magnum is taking over in Las Vegas!" Actually, he is the exception, I remember him as both Tom Selleck and Thomas Magnum. Higgins, I only remember as Higgins. Just Higgins. Did Higgins have any other name than Higgins? {I loved Higgins . . miss seeing Higgins on TV  }

The "Giant Bono Avatar" (as in you mentioned the real Bono avatar; being even sillier today, it seems, again, sorry). Sorry, I was being silly.

From: Oryx Tempel I'd pay to kiss the Russell Crowe avatar. Sobriquet will be devastated that his business model is broken. It's like he set up that Kissing Booth for nothing. Can he help it if he isn't Russell Crowe? I imagine he could pull off a Cameron Crowe, or a Ken Russell if he really tried, possibly even Counting Crows on a good day.

Lexxi, I said "the (real) BONO avatar" because there IS already a BONO avatar (not giant) in SL and I'm not talking about him (coughs).

I must agree with keeping SL and RL separate. I wouldn't care what a celebrity was doing/selling...not interested. Now if we could bring in Alexander the Great, Leonidas, Hatshepsut or even Hammurabi..then I'd be interested to have a chat or see what they were doing in SL. Heck, I don't even know most of the celebs today (although I love action flicks so Jason Statham and Bruce I do know of). The rest *shrug*. They're just people who have jobs which pay a lot more than mine ~Ari

Not all celebrities are performers... As far as I'm concerned Robin Wood is an RL celebrity. (You may know her instead as Robin Sojourner, for her in-world Texture Tutorial area) I was absolutely delighted to see that she brought her talents into in SecondLife.
