How do I do that? I mean a reset on the asset server , my mistake sorry. when you say 'reset' what exactly are you trying to do/get? if your inventory is not showing something (usually things like whole folders gone, can't access the library, or extra copies of default folders) best bet is submit a ticket through the support portal... if you are just missing specific items (like ones you just bought) try checking the clear cache button in preferences and relog, it's also possible it hasn't been delivered yet, if it takes more than 24hrs contact the vendor if you seem to be missing just a certain type, make sure you haven't set a filter in your inventory (there's a little file menu at the top of the inventory window), also make sure you aren't on the "recent" tab, or have anything typed in search.... although sometimes search will bring up missing items that don't show normally _____________________

"Asset server reset" just doesn't really make much sense. |

Perhaps the poster means a server rollback.
This can be done on private estates by the owner, but can be a problem in itself as the process is not always stable (my info comes from Desmond Chang of Caledon) On mainland only Linden Labs can do this, my understanding is that it is very rare for them to do so as the process can affect all other Sim residents. In short a server roll back works a bit like Window restore which has the effect of restoring a Sim to a previous point in time. However unlike Windows restore (which only effects software programs not document files) a server restore changes everything on a Sim to a previous restore point. That includes all Sim residents’ virtual property and prims. Which is why Linden Labs rarely do it. |

Private Island owners may request a rollback, but cannot perform one on their own. They are done at LL's discretion.

http://forums.secondlife.com/showthread.php?t=220435 /327/99/220539/1.html thanks kitty, missed that... seems OP has been given all the solutions at least twice, if they don't work, file a ticket, or try live help if they are premium account _____________________

Are you saying that the >>asset<< servers can be rolled back? Or is it the game server? Thanks Sue, I did not know that. Re asset servers etc. Each Sim is stand-alone so to speak and only enjoys a defined relationship with the asset server. But on thinking about this there is no yes or no answer to Oberon's question as far as I am aware. The reason why is that on a Sim roll back all prims/textures/scripts/assets revert to a previous point in time, of which must be reflected in the asset server. Therefore it is possible in theory a copy-protected item could be duplicated and/or any other asset of any kind could disappear if rezzed on the Sim. At least that is my own understanding folks, perhaps others could elaborate |

Are you saying that the >>asset<< servers can be rolled back? Or is it the game server? Every hour (I think?) every sim takes a snapshot of its running state and LL saves about a week's worth of saved states for every sim. When a sim rolls back (on purpose or by necessity due to a bad crash) it essentially goes back in time, but only as it relates to that sim. Residents and our inventories aren't affected in any way. If you rezzed something in between the rollback point and the time it's actually rolled back that item will still exist on the asset server, but nothing in world will be still be referencing that asset (you rezzed it so at that time it was removed from your inventory and referenced by the sim, but since the sim later rolled back to before you ever rezzed it, the asset becomes orphaned). If a sim crashes and its active state was corrupted in the crash, it'll automatically roll back to the last saved state. Since it's the same mechanism as a controlled rollback, whatever you rezzed in between will be lost, whatever you picked up will be duplicated and any changes you made to parcels/sim settings will be undone as well. A rollback doesn't change anything on the asset servers (as much/little as I understand things anyway ) since all the assets already existed at one point. What does change is whether they are referenced by something in-world or not.The asset server is the warehouse where everything is stored, a sim (and your own inventory) simply contain "directions" to the actual item in the warehouse. |
