@Katheryne

Please try it in the barerose branch @ "269146.9, 258681.3, 29.8 in Black Cat", not the main store.

Your numbers are so close, it again seems to confirm that static tests after rezzing don't really give useful results. We need something dynamic.

I'm having some trouble with this. TP'ing directly there does not land me on those exact coordinates. Once I do walk to those coordinates, I'm not sure which direction to face. Depending on which way I face, I get numbers ranging from 14FPS to 45FPS in High (default) settings.

Alright dear Linux fans :). I've done the necessary, installed Ubuntu 8.10 32bit. Exactly same hardware, Nvidia 177 driver. The AV still stands at the exactly same spot.

Results are devastating for the LL viewer (tested only this and expect CV to be about the same):
High: 24.5 FPS / Ultra 17.0 FPS

Meaning Ubuntu is about 30% slower on the same hardware compared to Windows XP using the exact same viewer version 1.21.6.0. Responsible for the bad results are for sure the i386 architecture and OpenJPEG. Perhaps I try a i686 Linux later, but overall it's not really what I expected ;) (test was repeated several times).

Short freeze ups? o.O

That only happened when my 1.6ghz dual core laptop had 1gig of ram.

I get them every single day with a quad core and 4gb of ram.

Ouch! No, that's not at all what I expected either! I mean, I could swear SL is much smoother and more responsive on Ubuntu vs. on Vista, on the same machine!

I wonder if the numbers would change much if Compiz (Desktop Effects) was turned off...

There is another thread in the Linux board reporting similar things with the 177.82 or newer Nvidia drivers. I've used that one but also tried the 173 Ubuntu offers, but the result were virtually the same and much slower. I'm going to try it again with another i686 distro, just downloaded the latest Sidux.

Update: Crappy Sidux installs but refuses to load after grub. Not going to waste anymore time with it.

I've done the same test one more time with a fresh installed Arch Linux as below. Results again are quite disappointing similar to Ubuntu earlier. The only explanation I have are issues with later Nvidia drivers as reported in the other thread.

CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+
Memory: 2026 MB
OS Version: Linux 2.6.28-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Feb 18 21:27:38 UTC 2009 i686
Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
Graphics Card: GeForce 8600 GT/PCI/SSE2/3DNOW!
OpenGL Version: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 180.22

Are you on a mac Honey? The freeze ups on a mac that get worse and worse over time have supposedly been fixed with Apple's latest operating system, Leopard (10.5). However effected residents who are still on Tiger (10.4) are still having the issue. LL closed the Jira stating it's been resolved by the release of Leopard. I'm not sure if anyone reopened it elsewhere for Tiger users. (My hatred of the Jira system only deepens anytime I try to search for anything in there.) I have to admit I'm balking at spending £83 ($120) on a new OS just to get rid of my SL freezes.

I'm using the Cool viewer as that's much better that the official release, but the problem is still there just not so bad.

[edited with additional info]

Just found a new Jira VWR-11692 which seems to relate to this and suggests that the problem wasn't fixed with the Leopard release and may be to do with ATI graphics cards on macs. Only 5 people have voted for this issue so if it's effecting anyone reading this please vote!

I would have to agree. We get a bad run of drivers from both sides of the camp fairly often.
