Hahaha............I knew this was going to go weird. :)

Short and long answer...........Gambling is illegal in SL. And casinos are gamling places.............but a little twisting of definitions one might find a way to dispute that. Sort of reminds me of a famous quote by a once popular President of the United States........"Depends on what the meaning of 'is' is"\

sure you can build the casino, just do not put any of the gambling games in it
(the games are not allow, any kind of gambling in SL is banned) check the TOS

however the building is perfectly fine :D

The laws in the US changed, and now credit card companies will get heavily fined if they're involved with exchanging cash from internet gambling sites.

That's an important point. CREDIT CARD COMPANIES get fined.

That's why all those utter morons out there trying to "twist definitions" to get around "LL's ban" need to be slapped. Repeatedly.

If the various credit clearinghouses and credit companies out there decide sealing with the customers of SL and LL might get them fined, then SL is well and truly screwed. They won't care what your special "definitions" are, they just don't want to lose a ton of profits over a tiny revenue stream.

I know that's the correct answer, but I really enjoy reading the hysterical.."US Government has no business telling me how to spend my money with their Puritanical Laws..." posts.

I was *so* waiting for such a comment. Thanks, Mari :)

Seriously, of course you could build a place that looks like a casino and put in devices with games of skill. However, no "wagering device" is allowed, i.e. where payout of L$ is subject to an element of luck. So it wouldn't be a real casino, would it?

A list of all "wagering devices" which have been removed can be found here: /327/79/203896/1.html

Thats a remark that I do not get. Logging is is a gamble, buying stuff is a gamble, try buying estate property. Or buy an entire region, hoping to rent it out. I mean really, how much more could you possibiliy want? If you re a high roller, Bay City seems to have some parcels left for sale too :-)

Ok Marcel, from that point of view you are correct. Everything is a gamble in sl. So let me just be very clear here, I miss gambling at the casinos. Now my experience in buying estate property, great. Buying stuff good to great. Logging in at times had been cumbersome. Have toyed with the thought of purchasing a region to rent out but comments such as yours has canned that. LOL

My problem is Voice, I can hear others but others cannot hear me. Yes, I have ticketed and about to have them reopen the ticket. I just hoping with the fixes somehow my issue would be mysteriously fixed. I will see this weekend.

<threadjack>
I think the massive speculation we saw in Bay City's initial auctions is done at this point. Some of the initial cutthroat speculators have either sold their land or seem to be stuck with it. The "Ceasars" place, for example, is still for sale -- and will be for a while, I'm sure. The one large landholder with the Asian place (and the ugly megaprim build behind me that *really* needs to go away now) is planning to sit on the land for a long while before selling. Another seller (once known for the big pink and blue poseballs on a plot) is slowly releasing them. Others have been for sale for some time now.

I love my plot there, and I would not be willing to sell it for nuttin' - but there's no way I'd invest six-figures of lindens right now and expect to make more back. Not gonna happen.

I am going to make a point this weekend to go to Bay City to see what the hoopla is all about. I have followed the threads with keen interest and now I want to go there just out of curiosity.

Well, as one of the people on the forum who is vocal about loving to gamble it up a little, then I have to add that life is a gamble. I rode a motorcycle to work this morning - big gamble there. Took the stairs, which I think are statistically more risky than the elevator, although I'm more like to survive a fall, ate breakfast at a restaurant, risking salmonella, e-coli, and whatever else you get a places like that. There were numerous other risks.

As far as gambling goes, I guess I'm in the "The US should have no say in what I do with my own damned money" camp. It should be my choice. But it's not. And it isn't LL's choice either. They couldn't care less if I gamble away my lindens. But when the US government is knocking at their door (it's arguablely illegal to allow gambling on the grid) and when credit card companies could conceivably cut off support, then LL takes notice - big time. They had to ban gambling. They had no choice in the matter.

IF I were to gamble on the internet, which I am not admitting to, I would have found far, far better places to do it than SL ever was. Poker on SL was an absolute farce compared to what is available out there, and other forms of gambling, well, they're rip-offs in RL, what do you expect in SL when they are unregulated rip-offs? I wouldn't have gambled on SL if someone were paying me to do it.

There, you see-- I don't think you're as ordinary in RL as you'd have us believe. :)
