Linden Lab is apparently deleting any posts that give information about competitors with the Xstreet Marketplace and banning or suspending accounts that post such information so I doubt you will get an answer in any of these forums. Try posting in a non-Linden Lab owned forum.

I hope LL doesn't start banning avatars whose profiles or merchandise info contain the current Xstreet policy in it. If so, SL has just become a police state that I want no part of.

yup i can believe this Blondin gave the impression that Ll viewed xstreet cometitors much like third party viewers. after i finished laffin i told him they didnt INVENT xstreet . they just BOUGHT it. By their definition xstreet/ sl exchange wasa third party viewer and no need to villify alternatives to xstreet. guess he/they didnt listen lol

i can understand their changes to xstreet. THEY BOUGHT IT. now tey are trying to monetize it and get a return on their investment. they even hired an ex ebay exec to do so. so generally good busines practices.

however, Ll will have to give their lil xstreet monopoly poweers caws in a free market they are driving their "customer" base straight to the arms of xstreet competitors

They are? Where have they done it?

If they are, I agree with Czari's "police state" expression.

Does it say someone in the TOS or Forum rules that we cannot mention competitors, either for the Marketplace or the grid itself? I know they have given suspensions, but I don't remember seeing any mention of this rule and shouldn't it be stated somewhere if it can cause a ban or suspension?

As far as I know, this happens on the blogorums, not here.

As far as I can tell from reading the rules, you are not prevented from mentioning anything that goes on in-world. They are just outlawing mentioning services that exist in the real-world. For example, I'm working on my own in-world replacement for XStreetSL...and I don't believe mentioning that would be against the TOS since it is in-world.

Funny they would have issues with stating 3rd party sites as those 3rd party sites are benificial to SL's economy and LL's bottom line. It shouldn't be any different than pointing a Slurl to any store in world. People still buying stuff from within SL and using $L to do it. Why would they cut people off from buying stuff? Sure they bought Xstreet but shouldn't the bottom line concern be people buying stuff in general? The more 3rd party sites the more stuff gets sold the more $L people buy and the more money LL makes..

And why not just put time limits on free stuff? After a month it auto deletes. Then the seller can repost it if they want. Why don't they have a DEMO system? Charge for DEMO stuff instead of all freebie stuff? No staff to work on it? Well they seem to have time to make these changes enabling the new charges! MySQL and PHP is not rocket science. If high schoolers can make complicated scripts like found on hotscripts.com then they can find some people to work on the Xstreet.

BS just keeps getting deeper.

The other mechant sites I SSOO dont think will let themselfs get bought out they can make WAY more real life money being in multiworlds the SLX can.. slx's not gona be in other worlds it is epic fail long term.
Apo was dumb as dog nuts for selling SLX LOL
He could have made his fortune.. now no one is gona touch him.. except the lab hehe
Still then transsision is gona suck but will make the metaverse a better place and it'll be w/o the lab in it.

In the blogrum and they posted this in the thread:

"No Advertising or Commercial Promotion. Except as expressly provided below under “Exceptions,” we do not allow advertising or the promotion of specific merchants, marketplace listings, products, services, or commercial websites, including offers to trade, “wanted” posts, charitable solicitations, and posts on affiliate or referral programs. “Advertising” and “commercial promotion” include promotion of your own business as well as others’ businesses. A persistent focus on a particular merchant, listing, product, service, or commercial website is also considered “advertising” or “commercial promotion.” A “commercial website” is a website where you can buy, sell, or trade any product or service.

We expressly prohibit posts that enable, encourage, or instruct others to leave Second Life, the Xstreet SL marketplace, or any Linden Lab property so that they can sell, buy, or trade on non-Linden Lab websites, virtual worlds, or online services that include the sale or trade of products or services. Included in this prohibition are posts promoting or advertising to buy, sell, or trade outside a Linden Lab property (such as Second Life or the Xstreet SL marketplace), and posts linking to websites that include offers to trade, sell, or purchase outside a Linden Lab property. Does it apply just to the blogrum or to all LL 'properties' such as this forum? Some of that stuff gets plugged here without any come back.

It's getting worse by the day.

Since my business is so small, I'm coming very close to just shutting it down to not deal with all this legalese double-speak and come into SL to just relax. However, as little income as my lindens were from my business, they were my source for purchasing items in world without purchasing lindens.

What to do...what to do.

Sorry for the slight necro, but just wanted to see if there are any other markets either in existence or in planning? So far I see:

Apez: Looks pretty good
Meta-life: Are they affiliated with those MetaCard thingies?
slapt.me: Seems mostly adult-content focused

Others?
