I am replying here because of the fact the thread this topic was in, got moved to an area that has no reply ability..

anywho I made mention of camming inside my head and seeing a strange blog

suggestions were made...
possibly an AO
possibly slider hair

Not an ao, even when the AO is unattached (which attaches to my hud anyway) the blob is still there

possibly slider hair as I did not try the camming with a true bald wig (I am not in world to test this one)
when I log in I will make a true bald wig, then see if it is there

I know it is not prim hair, cuz it is there even when the prim hair is unattached

I am thinking the suggestion of the slider hair is the correct one

now for the obligatory question....
what other weird stuff have you seen when camming inside your avatar?

yes, when you wear those bald wigs, they actually take the slider hair and shrink it down to a ball inside your head. That's probably what you are seeing.

if you were to put on a new skin that was entirely transparent, what you would see (instead of an invisible avatar) is your noob skin, hair and all.

i don't know if this helps, but thought it might be worth mentioning. the idea that "when you wear those bald wigs, they actually take the slider hair and shrink it down to a ball inside your head" sounds very creepy to me. why is it red, i wonder?

yeah was about to say the same thing, wonder why it is red

totally clear though should actually cover the hair completely, as it is replacing the hair texture with a clear texture

maybe the blob is the root of the hair LOL

no clue, but I remember seeing this back when I first started playing SL
heh

well there we have it, it is the slider hair

I just made a new hair, used totally clear as the hair texture and voila... no more blob

the hair had a red hair texture on the other wig

so... if you see a blob inside your head, you are not wearing a true bald wig (true being the ones with the totally clear texture for the hair)

(this can also cause that little slice of hair at the back of the head (when not wearing prim hair)

Just curious, but is this true? Is your newbie skin always there?
Never thought about it before, but a transparent skin could be cool. Walking around as the "invisible man", no body just clothes, could be fun.

Is that even possible?

yes newbie skin is always there
if you make a semi transparent skin, you can tint it using the slider, which is in effect the newbie skin

if you use a totally alpha texture as skin, you will just see the newbie skin

you could use invisible prims like which are used for shoes, to hide the body parts, but it also will hide any alpha textures too

Yes, it's true. If you want to try it yourself, make a new skin and for the texture on all 3 parts, select a pure alpha texture. Then wear the skin.

That's a very good way to put it, and now I know why we still haven't seen the promised blog entry...

...the Lindens are still waiting for their shipment of Lie-agra to come in to firm up their flaccid reasoning.

I have an avatar that is a skeleton - I know all the parts are prim attachments, but how do they make the transparent parts between the bones? If my newbie skin is under there, wouldn't it show through? Actually, there is a skin that comes with it, but I never looked at it. i figured it was just a transparent skin to make me invisible so the bones would show and not the skin underneath.

Confused...

For the longest time I thought that it was my avatar's brain. I mean you could see your eyeballs, your teeth and your tongue. I guess one could make a brain texture and apply that to your hair.

trout check and see if the invisible parts are prims

they might be hiding the body using invisible prims (with the invisibility prim refresh script in it)

why is it red, i wonder?

It should be whatever color the nooblet hair was on the person who made the cap. Mine was sort of reddish brown, so I made it black to go with my prim hair...it's not as noticeable that way, if I happen to have camera spasms. :D

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.

well - the avatar is all prims. I'll check. Would there be separate invisible prims or would it be part of the actual avatar? Like, for instance, would the head be an invisible prim to make my head disappear and a prim with the skull on it? Two prims, I guess, since the jaw moves.

yes pretty much LOL
if you click on the different parts of the avatar while wearing it and go into edit mode, you will see outlined all the prims, some will appear to completely cover the others

I am guessing that your body is covered with the invisi prims and the skeleton ones are embedded into them
(if that makes sense)

I could make a very simple prim hook hand to show you what I mean if you are on when I am

I have a freebie Hug and Kiss attachment that is a red blob - could it be that at all? Mine is annoying because I have to put it someplace other than my brain and depending on how my avatar moves it sometime pops out of my body so now I just wear it when I need to hug and then detach it.

gabriel if it is mod, retexture it with a totally clear texture, that way you will not see it

for my situation with the blob in my head, it was the bald wig, which was not truly bald, but which I now replaced with my own which is truly bald and the blob is gone

Got it - that makes sense now. Very clever the things people come up with in SL. I never would have thought to do that. I'll take a closer look tonight, but what you're saying makes complete sense.

i once saw that my body had eaten all my jewelry lol. It was interesting trying to find it all again so i could edit it to the right place. I discovered i was an empty shell. I don't have a clue what happened, but all my jewelry ended up under the skin.
I have also, only once, seen inside someone's invisiprim! that was scary....it looked like the inside of the invisiprim had been textured with their skin.
I have a picture, but I dn't want to put it up without their permission, so I haven't done....plus im over my upload limit lol.
The eyeballs, teeth and tongue look really wierd when you look from inside your head....there is a picture of that up on my flickr....it freaked me out the first time i saw it. I thought my skin had gone invisible...which by the way, is pretty hard if not impossible...i tried to make an invisi-skin. It failed miserably :(

Thanks for the suggestion Rhaorth but it does not work (I tried when I first noticed it), the script recolors the hugger upon rez. I could look at the code and take it out or force it to transparent and perhaps I will now that we are talking about it but in honesty it will probably get pushed down the stack of things to do as it is a low priority for me.

ah that sucks
can you maybe attach the hugger elsewhere or on the hud?
(I like the couple multi animator myself, hud attachment hehe

claire, yeah the mouth and such look weird from inside the avatar

I was positioning contacts once on my avi's eyes and cammed too far, the eyes look really weird from part way inside the skin LOL
the only way to make a transparent avatar is with prims

not hard to do

Actually that is not a bad idea - I will try attaching it to the HUD - could even be offscreen. Thanks :)
