It just occured to me that we never hear about caging anymore. Remember those days, when just standing on your property and having a chat with a bunny rabbit or a friendly newbie was an open invitation for some cheeky sod to fire a cage at you? Then off you'd tumble, like a sack of plums to some forgotten corner of someone else's yard. It was all in good humour and a bit like getting your bum pinched in Rome. Nice, if it isnt done too many times in the day.
There were even threads about it - "The Joy of Caging", "Caging - Why Not?", "Cagers Have Feelings Too", and my personal favourite "The Old Man and The Cage"
On occasion, when I feel in the mood, I put my partner in a cage instead of ejecting him and he says he really enjoys it. It's discombobulating, he says and gives him an sl cultural experience
So what happened? When did "Dodge City" just become the name of another car dealership and not a descriptor of this wild world?
Where are the cagers of today? Where are they?

From: Jig Chippewa Where are the cagers of today? Where are they? Languishing in Griefer Hell, I hope. While I don't necessarily want a "predictable" SL experience, my idea of refreshing unpredictability is NOT being virtually assaulted by some moron who thinks that screwing up other people's avs is good clean fun. Sorry. Did that sound grumpy?

It's that refreshing "wow!" factor that gets me every time.

Sorry. Did that sound grumpy? This ^^ The one time I was caged I was horrified and felt fear. Stupid; yes, I know. There it is, anyway. At the time, I didn't know about it, had never heard of it, had no idea how to get out of it and felt violated and attacked. Was nothing like 'having my bum pinched' and certainly didn't feel affectionate.

Probably they're mostly in places where that's accepted behavior.
Havok 4 really screwed up the freebie cagers, maybe that has something to do with it, too.

From: Jig Chippewa So what happened? Anti-griefing tools and sim settings. From: Jig Chippewa When did "Dodge City" just become the name of another car dealership and not a descriptor of this wild world? Day one. From: Jig Chippewa Where are the cagers of today? Where are they? Banned I would hope. It would be fitting to next asks why SL is not the open community it once was. Ban lines abound and people remain holed up in their homestead sims. It is a rare place indeed that allows scripts to run or have res enabled or even object entry. What happpened?

I got caged a couple months ago (I know y'all are gonna be disappointed that I don't mean that in a kinky way) while I was building at a sandbox and it both annoyed me and made me slightly nostalgic.

Personally, I'm nostalgic for the days when I'd see another avatar doing ANYTHING on the Mainland.

Been caged, early on. Some insecure male newbie. Projecting hostility onto me thanks to feeling rejected in SL/RL by women. Up until then I had thought it was about my giving him a tour of SL and answering questions. Then he wanted to go to a sim that had damage enabled - and hit on me. When it was rebuffed. Blam. Jig you are scraping the barrel for things to post. I can only think the tariff was lifted.

From: Clarissa Lowell Jig you are scraping the barrel for things to post. I can only think the tariff was lifted. Lol, no! Hal is in Europe right now and is too busy to check on me. I can do whatever I like for three weeks. It was just a thought that occured when I saw a piece of aboriginal art in my real world and I got into a discussion about cages with a friend of mine. I have a few serious questions in my head to ask - questions about the predominantly right-wing interest groups that seem to be establishing themselves here, the jealousy we attach to our sl partners, and the "Big Brother" aspects of sl. But I've gotta focus on real issues first. I also got questions like what does sl world smell like? Why do people bother to build foundations in sl to hold houses up against cliffsides when they float anyway? Why bother with roofs? Or tables? Where are all the teenagers we were told to expect? Why do women wear evening gowns just to float around the malls in sl? Why do men wear dinner jackets in sl when they dont bother in rl? Why are we ahead in so many ways but in a fashion-sense 30 or 40 years behind? Is feeling guilty when we are in sl a normal reaction for someone who values real time - or is it association of guilt with a pleasure-experience? And, oh yeah, does ciming to sl leave you feeling lazy because of all the energy you have wasted just to live here?

I've never been caged. But I miss the griefers of old. It was that random bit of annoying random silliness that made it fun to be in SL.

I was caged by a Scotsman in a kilt driving a red flying car on the first day. I thought, "Hello, this could be interesting."

I miss my watermelon launcher and my brothers cannon that would fire an av that crawled into it across the sim. Both broke with havok 4
GOne are the days of launching yourself across several sims to land in who knows what...(the first time I did it I landed in a pile of about 50 10m tall prim male parts was funny as all heck...I still have pictures somewhere).

Oh, man.. I used to deal with the freebie cagers a lot when I would hang around the Linden owned properties, back in 2006. Easy way to get out of them was to sit on them and *poof* you were out. Taught many a newbie the trick too, ticking off many a griefer. Course, before the griefer could turn to more serious weapons, I'd already been on the Live Help chat and asked for a Linden to remove the idiot, after I'd AR'd 'em.
And trying to cage me on my own land wound up with some serious fun for me! I had veritable choice of what to do... like, set the land to damage and send them home in a blaze of spammy particle glory, freeze them and dress them up in prim skirts... or just eject/ban them if I wasn't in the mood to have fun.
But I hadn't been caged in a really long time... probably since I stopped going to the Linden owned places. Though, to be honest it wasn't the cagers that bothered me. It was those howling, noisy, self-replicating followers that bothered me...

I love to be caged in the Limbo sandbox. I don't go anywhere, and the noob who shot me gets TP'd home and banned without me having to lift a talon.
I just get this nice little message:
Helios AGDS: ImaCager Noob (01234567-89ab-cdef-0123-456789abcdef) has been banned from Limbo Sandbox for using an illegal object: 'Cager'.
