Will you mix and match clothes or not?

They do. All you have to do is find someone who sells the textures instead of the finished item.

What clothing designers sell the texture instead of a finished item? I have seen all of, er, none. =/ Im talking about LL letting us choose were to attach the clothing layer, not the designer.

Always mix and match..and when I shop, I think about how the new item will go with what I have.

I look for tops to go with a certain skirt or pants..and shoes must match as well.

I love it but its work...(hmmm remembers housework thread and thinks..is it really a good idea to spend this much time playing Barbies when the bathroom is breeding a new life form?)

Once I create a mix/match outfit..I save it so I can put it on fast next time.

I just can't wait for the sale at Last Call on friday....they have mix and match friendly clothes and I'm gonna shop, shop, shop! :D

http://www.lastcallbydhc.com/

My intension is to delete some of the stuff I hasn't worn for months....the perfect would be to delete as many items as I buy....I wish!

OMG, I love Last Call! Seriously, their stuff is very easy to mix and match. My current fav outfit is the Alais top worn with CS Vintage Black jeans, and old boots from Shiny.
The one thing that I tend to do is buy several outfits from the same designer, so items tend to match up better. Also, get a few really good pairs of jeans (CS is my fav!!) in a few different colors. You can then mix most anything with a sexy pair of jeans! I even have an evening gown that I wear the top with a pair of jeans and it looks so cute :-)
I also wear tattoos and wish there was an additional tattoo layer. I would not like the idea of tattoos on my skin, becuase I have several tattoos that I wear, and sometimes no tats at all! I would hate to have to buy multiple skins instead of a 200L tattoo.

I had the same frustration with my tattoo, and finally decided that a tattoo should be a real tattoo - a permanent marking made on the skin. I don't understand why more skin designers don't offer to put tattoos directly on their skins.
It's always nice to find designers who use photoshop for just this reason. When I make custom clothes for myself, it is possible to take (as an example) the tank-top undershirt and place a short-sleeve shirt over it, then save the two as one layer. Easy to do, and far less work than re-doing the shirts from scratch.

I don't think I would want a perma tattoo. I love my Isis tattoo, but it looks terrible with some outfits, and the same with my back one. Plus I occasionally like to dress like a good girl so I am not about to wear a tattoo on my...well anyway, one of my tattoos isn't suitable for the good girl image...
I love being able to mix and match my tattoos too. I just wish that they didn't have to take up so much of my outfit space!

I agree that merging two layers to make one wouldn't be hard, but the OP said that she wanted part of one layer to be available on a separate one - the waist cincher.
This would be harder to do, because to make the top underneath the cincher look decent on its own the designer would have to put the missing detail (from under the cincher) into the top. Photoshop doesn't change the amount of work that would need doing, just make it slightly easier to create the extra detail - maybe.

Extra layers for belts etc would be lovely.
There are always going to be complaints about the layers. Most at the moment are reasonable compliants, but for example, if ll do change it so that layers can overlap, people will complain that they want the trousers over the shirt or vice versa.

Don't get me wrong, I thing these are all wonderful ideas, I would love to have each one of them. I can just see why they aren't doing anything about it at the moment, too much like hard work. And what would they get back from it? more complaints?

I love to mix and match too. When I shop I am always looking at how it will fit in with what I already have.. I don't do outfits per say.. If I find something I really like I just copy those pieces into a folder. But mostly I have this big folder called "Mix and Match" (imaginative eh?) And inside that are tops, slacks, jeans, jackets, etc.. This way I am always trying new combinations out.. And yes I have spent an hour picking out something to wear before.. But that was part of the fun!

Yes for me I guess SL is the ultimate Barbie collection. *laughs*

Though in all fairness, most of my RL clothes were chosen because "Oh this top will look soo good with my black slacks!".. So why should SL be any different?

I sure hope not!

All my barbies would end up naked with their hair all messed up.

Wait, that actually doesn't sound so bad.

SL fashion bloggers have really influenced designers to offer their clothes on lots of different layers over the past year, especially due to blogs like Closet Crisis where mix-match outfits are the focus. So, the good news is designers really are starting to meet the need for layers. The bad news is, inventory sizes are bulging from having three of the same shirt on 3 layers, etc. :)

I mix and match all the time... and most of the clothes I have do have various layers luckily.. or at least different layers of the same style, though different piece in actuality.. I only have a few items with the ame piece on multiple layers.

Would be cool to have them all be multiple layers.. or just have an option in SL to wear two shirts, two jackets, etc

Mix and match, even easier w/ missing Inventory!

I just did another Inventory overhaul and it's unbelievable what is missing and have stayed missing.
Just named empty folders or w/ most or a few pieces missing.
Mostly older stuff, but also I noticed (not remembering the perms on the what not k?)
like most of my Chaospire, one or 2 things missing in ea boughten thing, ya kinda need the whole outfits on those and I have most of what Chaospire has made, I think or from Pixeldolls, just gone, etc. A 1st pair of Minx shoes, yes thank you Minx for the SL shoe addiction starter! hehehe, gone, just the shoe base left. Another Minx buy? just some socks that came w/ it, no shoes, no shoe base/
wth can I do w/ any of that?
Clearing cache doesn't help, this stuff has been gone for a while.
I've just left the folders, hoping?
That big Inventory returned find LL did recently, I got a couple of USELESS things appear,
a dress ad and a meditation poster, thanks?

I have a couple of outfits that are missing the prim skirt, and the outfits are not mix-n-matchable at all so its basically just become trash. Yet, I hold onto it with the hopes that SOMEday the stuff will come back :(

all the time!

its fun to see what designers compliment each other, and i have put together whole different outfits blending two or three outfits from different ones.

All the time :) I love my fluffy barbie. She is so cute! Every style fits her, grungy, elegant, goth, sportive, fantasy. Usually I wear stuff from 5 different designers mixed together:)

BTW there is a solution for the naked belly/jacket problem. Some designers offer their long shirts and sweaters as a shirt/underpants combo so you can wear a jacket on top.

I`d like to see a tattoo layer one day. Prim size limits are also a problem, at least for me. Most prim skirts are too big for me.:) You can vote for these thins on the jira.

I have a hair which looks kinda bed hair messy. It is from gurl6, the january one? i like it, it is colour changeable/tintable on top of the multiple colours in the pack :)

It is very rare that I actually wear an outfit that was bought as a set. I have been mix and matching my clothes ever since I joined SL 3 yrs ago. I have also been known to buy an entire outfit just for 1 item. It's so fun to mix and match and add a bit of my own personality and I enjoy SL for giving us that creative ability.

I started day one mixing and matching. Mostly because the free items I got were a free shirt and or a free skirt, etc. Though I was able to get a free outfit from one designer (and another free outfit from a freebie place, but I immediately saw why it was a freebie :)). I am curious to see if I wear it if I ever see anyone else wear it at the same time, since it is by a designer that mostly sells lingerie.

That is the hair I wear, the January one from Gurl6. My free one from them. There is a freebie one I found from Sarah Nerd's freebie place that looks like I have that hair from Gurl6 up in a ponytail.

I've only been on sl since october, but have mixed and matched since then.
Strangly I sometimes wear some of the newbie items too... some are crap but the odd item looks ok when teamed with a designer item. Anyone else make use of newbie stuff?

Considering I just started, my answer to your question: "Anyone else make use of newbie stuff?" Is yes.

A tattoo layer would be awesome, it would save a lot of time and hassle. I usually only buy prim skirts if they are modifyable, otherwise they usually don't fit.

If they have minimum sized parts (like buttons) you cannot make the skirt smaller without messing with each and every prim. That's really annoying.

The thing i dislike most is that shirtlayes ends so high up. Some designers mix shirt with underpants to avoid the naked tummy-look. I love those, because else the jacketlayer is used up to cover the tummy.

I mentioned that layers should overlap...but yes, that would be another discussion, witch layer should be on top. More layers would be great, a tattoo layer and a belt layer, and perhaps a coat layer?

Only problem is where to stop, and how much the inventory grows with multiple versions in a clothes pack, ouch. Sometimes it can be too much.

The free skins from Another Shop is free to chanche and in Persona's blog she has added a tatto in the skin layer! Damn good eyebrows too. http://personasblog.blogspot.com/

I mix and match too....I spend waaaay too much time every day trying to figure out what to wear, lol. And I rarely wear the exact same outfit twice. Although on occasion when I'm super busy I have been known to throw on an outfit without mixing and matching...and even rarer occasion, I once had the same outfit on for more than one day *gasp*. Anyhow, there are a couple of great blogs that I read that have some great ideas for mixing and matching...its a place to get ideas from even if you don't do the exact outfit. One is a more well-known one, at least from what I've been able to tell....Closet Crisis at http://www.closetcrisis.com/ and the other is Michami Style Blog at http://michami.net/blog/ Check them out they are really great!! And Hethr of Closet Crisis accepts guest posts! Hmmm....maybe I'll start doing that on my blog too...
