From: Innula Zenovka Then you will see the problem with having several Christmas lights all acting as light sources on their own.. Yeah, I take the point about lamps, but lamps aren't Christmas lights. Would a string of Christmas lights actually work? Even before the new lower limit on light sources, the limit was about 6 I think, which is nowhere near enough for a string of Christmas lights, or a set of Christmas tree lights. In such cases, an alternative would need to be, such as glow or particles. From: Innula Zenovka Sorry, and all that.. no disrespect to your lamps intended. And none taken I'm not aware of any possible disrespect in anything you wrote.

From: Lance Corrimal Got any reference to that lower limit? See https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-15114 and a couple other jiras linked to that one. It's some older cards that are affected, and if I read the description and comments correctly, there are some obscure settings in config files that can be changed as a workaround (sometimes?). Supposedly, even the 6 light limit may be going away eventually; I'm not sure how much attention that is getting in development now, but I think it's part of the same initiative to make shadows work better and faster. Whether that makes it into viewer2.0.2009.bfd, Linden only knows. At least until pixel lighting is standard for all viewer configurations (like a decade from now, maybe), builders will always have to consider that some viewers will just have local lights off (or, worse, have basic shaders turned off with local lights turned on; some wacky rendering under those conditions right now). One trick I've used with the current limited light sources is to stack up a half-dozen invisible prims, all emitting black, to block unwanted lights (as from Zindra street lamps).
