Don't know Phil. For me it's down to exactly 55,227 again. Borked since yesterday, or finally the truth.

[edit:] Whaha, must correct myself. Did a refresh of the SL front page (2 seconds in between). Numbers went from 55k till 70k and back. In only a few seconds. Something's definately wrong.

Paulo.

Yes, but it's normal for the number to change with refreshes - I just refreshed it back to 47k. But 70k is new for today (and for yesterday) so, if it's as Viktoria said - that they keep several caches, and update one of them per hour - then the 70k one would be the first one to be updated since the fix (ssuming it's been fixed), and the others will also be returned until all of them have been done.

Btw, Devonshire had a go yesterday, but to no avail :)

It's definitely borked so conspiracy theory time.

Concurrency is down but people won't understand the figures, so Linden Lab will pull the concurrency stat due to borkiness and lack of understanding.

Heck it worked for their island stats when people got rid of Openspaces so why not pull that trick again!

I can't get a 74k but the 71k came up a couple of times. I also got a 61k that you missed, Rock :)

Here are some concurrency figures we prepared earlier.

47,501
64,495
53,698

Dammm...i think i was not expressed myself good !!!

Look, forget the bots...and behavious and comparisons of few days or weeks ago...

Its very simple:

go to www.secondlife.com and starts to refresh for each 5 seconds...simple !!

Each time u refresh you will see veru different results as the previous results such as:

1st time: 55000
after 5 seconds: 70000
after you press the refresh again: 49000
again: 61000

This is not about bots or randon snapshots...whatever

It's pressy and simple: The count is not working or is fake or is random.

Finally someone understood me ;) TY !

BTW..what is going on ?

if the system is broken and alwys display the same result we can really understand (happened before) ....but...To be very honest these numbers appear like a intention to not show us the true results.A way to hide the results without make us realize that there is a problem.

+1 gold star for being the first person I've seen to start a forum post with that word :)

There have often been wide fluctuations in the "Users Online" number displayed on the web page. I assume that the number is only "near real-time" and that you get a bit of caching effect there.

.

Nope..no cache or fluctuations and nothing is near Real Time.

if you see 49000...then you refresh and see the number in 70000 then you refresh again and see 55000 it's obviouslly fluctuations or somethign near real time.

Also...you can try http://secondlife.com/xmlhttp/homepage.php

Try to stress this page by hitting refresh several times.Pay attention on the tag "InWord"

Cache is this case is impossible too.

concurrency is borked.

Concurrency is borked.

In snap below is a thing i have that records concurrency every 600 seconds, left bar most recent time. I took this pic to show a friend as it was very unusual...I return to this spot after an event i hold on sundays. For the past couple of years it is always like a bell curve, smooth with a bit faster decline on the left then right. Snap doesn't show hovertext with most recent stats but usually the middle high (about 2pm slt) is bout 80k last several week, ends about 50-60k.

p.s. sorry for link. I can't seem to get pic to show here :(

randomly choosing between 10 numbers
05-25-2009 05:59
http://secondlife.com/xmlhttp/homepage.php

As of 5:30am SLT it's randomly choosing one of these 10 numbers:

47840
48147
51063
51439
55227
55550
58790
59062
61726
70828

The distribution isn't even. In the few minutes I polled, I got these frequencies:

47840 (30)
48147 (11)
51063 (11)
51439 (15)
55227 (27)
55550 (35)
58790 (7)
59062 (17)
61726 (8)
70828 (4)

Here's a short sequence, samples about 5 seconds apart:

59062 55550 59062 61726 47840 47840 55550 51063
55227 55227 48147 70828 55227 59062 55550 61726
55550 47840 51439 55227 47840 59062 55550 47840
51439 58790 55227 59062 51063 58790 47840 55550
47840 51439 55550 55227 51063 51439 51063 55550

Edit:

At 6am as I fire up my client, I'm told there are 55,550 online, which is in the above set. Fire it up again and I get 51439, then 47840...

Don't just look at the numbers, look at the times they were taken (it's in the XML). You can take the numbers and the times and sort them into a graph of concurrency vs time.

They want it to be a big secret that 60% are bots these days. :-)

Perception is everything.

I wonder what other numbers they're faking.

Do I really have L$350?
