Hey Everyone,

I'm not sure if this is the right forum but was wondering if you could take a look at this. It's really important for my school research and really need you guys to chip in!

Maybe you can steal the results from these:

/327/b4/308224/1.html

/327/95/307340/1.html

/327/dc/307676/1.html

/327/dc/307045/1.html

/327/8a/306521/1.html

And that is just the list that has been done in the last few weeks.

And maybe take a look at the hints in those threads.

Your very first post. Receive school project, create a free account in SL, log in to forum and post survey, never explore or get to know SL, never engage in protracted two way discussions with residents, never help others by answering some questions.

Sorry but in my book this is no different then the telemarketer that calls your house at 7PM while you are eating dinner. Now do you LIKE when that happens and do you take the time to answer THEIR questions??

Did you guys know that researchers received 60 TB of behavior data from Sony for Everquest2? That's sixty terrabytes or sixty thousand gigabytes.

http://arstechnica.com/science/news/2009/02/aaas-60tb-of-behavioral-data-the-everquest-2-server-logs.ars

From: someone
Williams pointed out one case where having access to the server logs allowed the researchers to identify some serious skewing in the responses to the demographic surveys. Older women turned out to be some of the most committed players but significantly under-reported the amount of time they spent in the game by three hours per week (men under-reported as well, but only by one hour). The example highlights the risk of using self-reporting for behavioral studies and the potential of the virtual world data.

I don't know... This game gets surveyed so freakin' much, every time someone comes in asking for survey participants, I feel like I'm supposed to drop trou so I can get my temperature taken.

You know, participating in research can be interesting, especially if you are able to read the results afterwards. Contributing something new to the scope of human knowledge is a good thing in my book.

But too many of these surveys (this one being a prime example) are whacked together for some been-there-done-that school project without any evident scientific value, just because "virtual worlds" seem to sound sexy at the moment.

Not to mention that in the two years I have been seeing the survey requests in these forums, I do not think we have ever been given any results.

I'm convinced that these Friday "surveys" (or at least this one in particular) are just the result of a regular creating an alt to screw with everyone. This post in particular is very formulaic, I could almost believe someone doing it to mess around.

Hey Everyone,

I would really like to give a big thank you for those who contributed. I'm not going to lie, I myself have never been truly engaged in Second Life before working on this research, but it is quite addicting as the other night I spent 4 hours on it, not even realizing the time had flown by. Also, there are other members within our survey group who have extensive knowledge and have been a part of the community for a long time.

My job is to reach as much of the demographic as possible and believed that this was one of the key places to post it.

If you guys have any suggestions please let me know!

Also, one we have collected the data we will be more than happy to post the results on this forum.

/me yawns.
that must have been the most generic "survey" ever. way too boring to even think up false answers to f+ck with the newbie survey alt.
just goddamn google for the answers to that POS.

Why should I answer this survey for free when there's another one promising me L$150 (about 50 cents) for the ten minutes of my life that I will never get back? Actually, I haven't even done that one yet, because I figure I should at least be getting an amount equivalent to my normal hourly pay rate.

You do not post what school you are with, or any information at all to even begin to suppose this is legit. Therefor, it appears that you are doing this just to gain enough information to try scamming people. You are giving researchers a reputation lower than telemarketers.

Forum folks probably make up less than 1% of the SL population.

You will never ever reach a large demographic of SL residents here.
