This questionnaire will take 15 minutes. Those participants who complete the questionnaire will be given L$100. The payment will be processed on 1 March 2009 by "Hariharan Engineer" (name of the avatar). Thank you very much. http://abis-44464.fec.anu.edu.au/questionnaire/start/second_life Pep (I know Sterling is weak, and jobs in Macdonald's are harder to get, but I am still not tempted) _____________________

I took it; doesn't seem intended to bash Second Life. The first part is very Jungian, much like Myers-Briggs; second part seems focused on whether one's SL involvement is more social or content-driven. (Don't think I've ever before considered the possibility of feeling socially obligated to be in SL.)
Privacy statement is pretty dilute, at least by North American standards. It asks your RL and SL age and gender. (I estimated gender. ) |

I usually give out free money on places where newbies accumulate.
like job island, newbie island, Hanja ![]() just pay a newbie 100 L$, and say nothing. I like the confusion "Hey who just gave me money!!?"My name is on the tag, and people went ape, trying to find who was throwing cash. Humans are amusing when it comes to greed. _____________________

Argh....whoever put this survey together was tone deaf. I'm an ESTJ and I think of SL as ESTJ heaven with all the stimulation and little nobs and detail attention my ESTJ nature craves.
That said, the whole idea of competiton to "be the best" is a laugh. So much of what goes on in SL happens in my own head and really nowhere else. Put another way, we are all legends in our own minds. This works because a lot of SL is empty and it's easy to be cool when you think you are cool. I can give an example. Some time ago, I walked into an escort club that was empty. The sign outside had not rezzed and I did not know it was an escort club. It was purple inside and dark. It felt as if I were walking on carpeting. As Iyoba I stand 4'8" and often have big hair in colors not found in nature. I think my hair that day was olive green. Getting a good shade of green hair (one that is not too garish) is hard work. Iyoba also dresses very modestly, usually in tea dresses made from only a few prims and flat shoes. Iyoba is light skinned African American or biracial. She has plain brown eyes and wears no makeup. I went upstairs to poke around. I thought there was some kind of balcony I could reach through all those little doors. Instead, I found a bunch of empty purple carpeted rooms. I came out of one of the rooms and...I was not alone. I faced an extremely tall, muscular, female avatar in a mini skirt, high heel boots, and with the most amazing flowing, black, wavy tresses. I checked her profile. "I like to stand out," it said. She glared at me. I had a feeling a scene was going to happen and it wasn't going to be pretty. Going where you're not wanted in SL even if it was sort of accidental is the cause of many fights. I started trying to talk my way out of this. "Excuse me, " I began. "I'm sorry. I thought these doors led to a balcony." I edged down the stairs. Ms. Stand out said nothing. In any crowd of typical female avatars, Ms. Stand Out would be a striking creature, but the one who really stood out would be me. Of course, I also realize that Ms. Standout and I played by different sets of rules or maybe in different leagues. In short, we solved the same problem from different places, and each of us was a winner. |

:: Scratching my head and still blissfully ignorant :: She was just giving an example of personal goals. For example; someone dress in goth in the streets achieve the same goal as a someone dressed like they are going to the Grammy. Just different taste for the person. if relates to the survey because some of the questions ask about winning. When i took the survey alot of the things I've never consciencely considered, but I answered buy the results. i.e. I never considered myself obligated to SL. But the results are that if I don't check in - even the offline IM, I feel bad, so I answered high for that questions. |

Bah, I suck at these. I always stare at a question and think "Hmmm, sometimes I think this way, but other times I think the opposite." I am very uncompatible with binary answers. I can't complete this.

I can't complete this. Yes, it's that way for me, too. If I answered the same survey each day for a week, I'm sure the answers would be quite different, and I would be equally sincere. The only way to get through is not to think about it. You have to just pick answers without involving your brain. |

It asks your RL and SL age and gender. It doesn't ask you to swear to it, though. This reminds me of a situation in my office in which we all have to give our weights. (Long story.) One of the engineers said, "Let's say I'm 180 pounds." |

Sounds like a good cause. I would still have answered, even without the L$. Call me naive, but it's nice to help out in what looks like a reasonably good cause.

I tried to win SL but I never found a single power-up, and the first boss level toasted me no matter what combos I tried, so I figured I wasn't doing it right.
