What do you picture when you think of a SL DJ.

Imagery that comes to mind? A typical 'radio' DJ would be slightly over-weight, unshaven and wearing headphones. A woman would be the 'girl next door' type, definitely not hooker looking. As for a techno type DJ, all I 'see' are wires, records, headphones, smoke, musical gear and a water bottle - no DJ.

One of my DJs is a big guy with an incredibly smooth voice...I'd swear he did professional radio at some point in his life.

The other one is a female who is just too shy to deal with talking...so she doesn't. People don't really care seem to care.

That said, I'm hoping the next DJ I hire (anyone interested???) does talk.

In terms of voice I have even heard a DJ that could etch glass with her voice. Not that I mind DJs with a smooth high pitch voice, but this poor lady had moments when her voice was like nails, construction nails on a chalk board. Feel so sorry for her, she had a great sense for music.

HoneyBear, I am always looking for new opportunities. What Genre where you looking for?

Alright since more are discussing qualities not imagery, let me rephrase the question.

IF you were not a DJ and happened by a generic, stereotypical poster about a DJ or being a DJ, what imagery would catch your eye and make you immediately think about a DJ?

none
I do not think of any specific look when thinking of djs
which admittedly is very very seldom, I think of djs

The tag above the head saying "DJ" is about the only universal thing I can come up with.

I picture people sitting in underwear munching on cheetos and drinking soda while drag and dropping mp3's into the mix.

no.. wait. That was me when I was a dj briefly. Sorry.. carry on.

No particular AV comes to mind, but I do tend to see more male DJs than females. Usually the AV, if humanoid, has taken some time to create their AV, with decent skin, etc. I've never seen a DJ that looks like a newbie.

Often DJs will wear headphones, often scripted to be able to spew out green text.

Often DJs will have a spinning tip jar or poster that may include a picture of their AV on it.

Often DJs will stand at a DJ booth, but this is not always true.

Usually DJs will wear a tag that says the name of the venue + "DJ", or "DJ" + their own name.

Now, as far as voice, vs. no voice, in the circles I run with, most people tend to prefer talking DJs. I am a talking DJ. Why? First talking live, makes it more personal, you know you are getting someone who is responsive, not a radio stream. The ability to welcome people by name, identify requests, and dedicate songs is always appreciated. ("Can you dedicate 'I Finally Found Someone' to my new partner ?" Next shift... "Can you play 'I Hate Everything About You' by Three Days Grace?" ..... okay.... lol )

Edit: LMAO...it's your thread, I guess I can hijack it.

The club has a blues/classic rock format. :)

LOL Fair enough HoneyBear. :) Besides a slight Hijacking saved us both time in world, as I don't do Blue or Classic rock but maybe some one else does and they can PM you. ;)

Thanks Jade, though many focused on the avatar you did touch a little more on the "Things" one would associate with being a DJ, as I have no doubt we are all varied in appearance. More posts like your would be very helpful.
