I thought there was a thread here before but it seems to suddenly have been disappeared after hitting the 2000 votes? Or perhaps it's just my memory?

VOTE VOTE VOTE

However; be aware that all these votes are falling on deaf ears.

LL is going forward with it, no matter what you, me or anyone else thinks..."DAMN the torpedoes, full speed ahead."

Yeah. We learned that with the Openspaces. We will learn it again.

What it should have shown LL is that they can not run a sustainable business by screwing their users, the hands that feed them. Obviously they still did not get the point. If the ongoing Openspace disaster was not enough, perhaps this will do the rest.

Someone commented that the demise of SL would likely be the best outcome for all who still hang on it. To start over with better, up to date systems and working governance.

Time will tell.

IM Jack Linden. He says only 10 people have sent him IM's opposed to the adult content changes? Obviously he's in a very isolated environment, totally oblivious to the reality of the situation. There are clearly far more than 10 people opposed to this, if he'd bother doing something irrelevant like, oh, I dunno, reading the forums. Or looking at the votes on the jira entry. So let's all IM him and tell him what a crock this *really* is, and make him well aware of the fact that there are far more than 10 people against this insanity!

Good idea Rock!

I am not affected personally by the whole adult stuff, but I see a lot of people will be affected in a very negative way, therefor I voted to support you guys.

Wow.

Hey, the adult content thing won't affect me much, I am actually *for* a cleaner image for the grid... but this policy seems like economic suicide to me.

Perhaps the reason nobody's talking, is that we have all given up.

The classified ads issue is going to affect everyone who advertises, what a heinous pain in the backside this is going to be, you have a choice of what level to set your ad and it sticks strictly to that level.

So if you set a PG ad, only people with PG prefs will see it.

If you set a mature ad, only people with mature prefs will see it.

Adult, well obviously you'd expect that to only be available to people with adult ticked but this is going to mean people will have to consider running multiple ads.

And excuse me for saying so but the system for reporting and voting on those pages needs vast simplification - it's too complicated by far. The vote for the adult issue is bogged down by the same old arguments and when I looked for the way of voting I couldnt find it....

Vote is on the left but I agree that the system is way too complicated.

Jack Linden really thinks only a handful of people are against this? Wow. That IS clueless.

It would be a mistake to believe for a second that Jack is clueless.

One mad conspiracy theory I had a while ago was that the gteam (which works for Jack) is actually one of the big pushers behind this sillyness: If they can get all the adult clubs & stores onto a separate continent, their jobs get easier. Everything else naughty on the mainland would be 'private' property, which is a bit easier to police. The recent reclassifying of welcome areas from PG to mature supports this, too. The big hole in the theory is that LL isn't also creating a PG continent, which would make things even easier for the gteam.

When I first joined SL and bought my 512sqm 1st land many years ago, a free sex park opened up next door.
So any property next to that area had to listen to cybering in open chat (this gets old quickly if you are trying to build or script)

Better zoning was what many people on the mainland needed, and now we are finally getting it with the red light businesses having to move to the red light continent

I have been using the new search check boxes (pg, mature, adult) for a few days and they seem intuitive and give full control
I expect most people will have either pg + mature checked, or all 3 checked (for those that can)

I think a dropdown box for the maximum level you want may have been better than the 3 checkboxes due to the previously mentioned problem of which category to put your pg/mature classified in.
If the person doing the search understands the system they will just check both, but you cant rely on people understanding it.

I fully agree.

I'll miss the community of SL as it fragments, but it will be right to evolve when the time comes.

Working governance is especially important. Importing RL models doesn't necessarily work for an online community - and that includes the model of a corporation and its customers. One of the things that will have to organically evolve is multiple ways to approach that problem.

If the person doing the search understands the system they will just check both, but you cant rely on people understanding it.

Except that you can't rely on search working properly, certainly not inworld with the new RC viewer - none of the pre-existing problems has been fixed. Several of us have been testing it with different search words; here are some results I got:

Example: search term in Places 'Bukkake'
PG or PG/Mature checked returns no result

Example: search term in Places 'Bukkake Bliss'
PG checked returns no result
PG/Mature checked returns no other bukkake results, but does list Bukkake Bliss at the head (bad pun, sorry) of the list

Likewise, using the same search terms in Classifieds/Shopping, 'Bukkake' returns no hits unless Adult is checked, but 'Bukkake Bliss' returns a number of BDSM and Bukkake Fetish hits.

It's a perfect example of the single word search not working, but combinations throwing up some interesting and perhaps unwanted returns (albeit in this case, not in PG)

However, if you search in totally PG mode (PG selected in Preferences and search) for "ass", which I understand is banned on SLXstreet, you get Kitty's Whorehouse, Escorts Lounge, and - top of the list - Swing Island XXX Theater Cinema.

Of course, LL has taken down the new RC viewer because of this and various other problems. However, it remains true that search was broken before and it's just as broken now. The implications of persisting with non-contextual search are terrible, and if you add to that the fact that the list of 'bad' words can be modified at any time, people simply won't know where they stand.

As others before me have observed, many of LL's current issues could have been solved long ago merely by making what they already have in place work properly.
