i haz used block caps in attenshun seeking rage!

Seriously, I miss all the kids who only visit because they can actually afford to buy stuff from Abbots.

Oh, and I need to test textures on complex builds without wasting a bomb on failed attempts.

How often do they update the database snapshot for the beta grid? The last update (July 17) was about two weeks before I joined SL. I'd love to use the beta grid for testing texture uploads but I can't until they update it.

I'm really confused actually. I typed two words in block caps in my last message, clicked preview and they'd been converted to lower case (with the exception of the first letters of each word.). Um, at least I'm 99% sure that happened. It's been a long day and posting at too many forums.

Now it's not converting the text at all.

I have mixed feelings about Windlight due to the skybox situation and the way it affects textures, but other than that the transition was pretty amazing. It would be nice if we could at least track its progress on the beta grid.

There's no schedule. I've known six to eight weeks pass without the snapshot being updated, and when it finally happened, it was updated again within three or four days.

It's probably decided in true Tao style. You know, several Lindens playing Twister at the foot of Philip's desk when Pathfinder suddenly decides he's bored and suggests updating the snapshot on the beta grid to pass the time.

They updated the database the day before they took it offline. I had been building a new project on the main grid and when I logged into the beta it was in my inventory. I was thrilled because I still had a ton of work to do on it, and the beta grid is easier to do some types of work on. Unfortunatelly they took the beta offline the next day and it has never come back.

I suspect that when/if it comes back the database will be updated again.

They are still working on it. One of the other threads had a link to a blog entry where they explained what was happening.

We’ve got some new server-side work (beyond mere bug fixes) going into beta, and we had the beta grid prepped for previewing the work. At the last minute, we found some showstoppers and are fixing them before we open it up. As soon as its stable enough we’ll open it up, with appropriate fanfare.

Well, Havok 4 does explain why they had some major show stoppers that prevented the beta grid from being up. You know, if they had simply said, "Hiya, we're trying to introduce Havok 4 to the beta grid and it's kicked our butts again. When we've figured out what is stopping the show, it'll be back up.." I don't think we'd have been wondering if the beta grid was coming back or not

Okkayy.. maybe we would have, but that would have been more worrying about whether the hardware had melted down or not
