Anyone know if there's a list of the locations i see when i start up SL, some of the places look very cool but i'm not sure how to find them.

Use the Emerald Viewer - it gives you an option bottom left - 'visit this location' before you log in.

Many of the pictures on the official viewer login screen are by Torley. I do not know if this set here has them, well here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/torley/sets/72157605740036376/ but it should be a set in there somewhere. I know at least the first picture in that set has a slurl/location link.

The pic of the large train complex from the air is...or was...in the sim called KOH KUT. I have a photo.. I can no longer find it in search. It used to be at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Koh%20Kut/131/122/24 but it's now a landscaping place. It's either a price increase victim or it's moved someplace else. I can't tell you how many gorgeous places in my LMs are no longer in existence.

Emerald viewer uses a different set of images, and gives TPs to them. But that won't help you find the ones in the standard viewer. That said, whoever's picking the ones for Emerald often picks some very interesting screenshots.
