To stop receiving group notices, gifts, pretty much everything from groups, temporarily, without leaving the group? To turn it off while say on rl vacation? And then turn back on later?

Sorry to use this thread for my question but I have done this and I'm still receiving notices.

Is there another step possibly?

I have the latest version of SL and I'm being flooded with notices from a certain group. Maybe just contact the group?

Scorp did you join a subscribo? If so, turning off group notices won't do a thing about that. You will need to go to the group's land or shop and click its subscribo again to unsubscribe. (If clicking it subscribes you then just click it again and maybe send a note card to the owner.)

Are you getting notices or group IMs? There's no way to turn off group IMs. If you're still getting notices, you may have gotten on a Subscribe-o-matic list.

? I just x the group IM off if I"m too busy for it at the moment. It stays off til I put myself back into it, or until log off.

One of my biggest complaints on the Subscribe-o-matic system is that they do not have a website like Hippo to manage your subscriptions. With the Hippo groups, I can log in to the Hippo website and see all of my groups, read previous messages and even remove myself from any of the groups.

Thanks for the ideas but I spoke with the owner of the group and they said to just remove them from my group area and that should take care of it.

It worked, but I guess I can't be part of the group without all the notices :(

Thanks for the quick help :)

If they are a group that shows in the Group list inworld and turning off the notices via the checkbox does not stop notices, then it is a bug of some sort.

And a search of JIRA shows it is a problem:

Well, I just got another notice from that group so apparently it didn't work.. uhhh....

I really like the idea of having the IM's sent to my email but I'd rather not put up with all the other garbage.

There is something else going on here than simply an in-world group. If you are no longer a member of the group than you should not be receiving group notices.

What exactly are you receiving from this group? There are several distinct things that someone might call a "group notice", though only one of them formally is a Group Notice.

**Group Notice: can only come from an in-world group, the kind that is listed in the Groups area of your profile. If you are online when it arrives, it looks like a blue pop-down window at the upper right corner of your screen, with the group name and logo, and some text in a white box. If you are offline when it arrives and receive IMs in email, you will get an email whose subject includes "Second Life - Group notice:" and the title of the notice. When you log in, you'll see the blue pop-down on your screen.

There is no way you should still receive these once you leave the group (and relog)! Is this what you mean by group notice? if so, I think you haven't left the group, or haven't left the group you thought you were leaving.

**Group IM: comes from the in-world group, like an IM in your communications window, but only when you are online (these do not go to email when you are offline). You can't turn these off using the Group Info window (except by leaving the group), but you can temporarily turn them off by clicking the x in the upper-right corner of the Group IM tab. That will turn off IMs from that group for the duration of your log-in session.

**Subscriber updates: instead of in-world groups, some people use subscription services like Hippo Groups or Subscribe-o-matic. These do not show up in your profile and can't be accessed or managed like in-world groups. From these you might receive IMs that appear in your chat console if you are online, or in your email if you are offline and have IMs to email on. They can also send inventory offers that you can accept or reject as any other inventory offer.

I suspect that the group you think you are in is actually one of these, and that's why you are having trouble leaving it. You may have to go to the location where you joined, and click the subscriber machine to leave the subscription list. If you don't know where that location is, IM the owner of the group and ask them where it is.

Thanks, Carter, yes, these come both as the blue group notices at the top right of the screen when logged in and also in an email as a group notice when I'm offline as well. Whatever notices I received when not logged in to SL, I get as the blue upper right hand notices when I do log in.

The notices I get from one particular group are for the live acts or whatever "shows" they have that day. It's nothing like spam or anything like that, it's that they do so many acts everyday, it builds up and I'd rather not receive them because I do go there quite often and I can easily see what acts are coming up because they have them posted on billboards for that day.

I have indeed removed them from my groups area so I can assure you at least that much. The "bug" that LittleMe Jewell had mentioned may be valid here.

Thanks for your time, it is very much appreciated. I will contact them (the group in question) again to see exactly what else can be done as it does "sound" like the **Subscriber updates type of notice.

You can go here, http://www.hippo-tech-sl.com/myhippogroups/ , and create and account and see all of the HIPPO groups you are subscribed to (and remove your subscription if you wish). There is no way, other than via the notices themselves, to see if you are subscribed to any Subscribe-o-matic groups.

Yes, and I will be doing that shortly, thank you :)

Little, I went to hippo and got my password and this was my message when logging into Hippo:

"You are not a member of any hippoGROUPS groups."

Thanks for helping -

Ok, I'm guessing it's not a subscribo type setup as I clicked to join the group again and it just popped up the normal "group" info dialog box and if I wanted to join the group, I would just click the little blue button that says "JOIN (L$0).

Naturally I didn't join again ;)

That would be a regular inworld group, so if you are still getting notices from that, it is a worsening of the JIRA issue I posted earlier.

Is it possible that the store has the above group join AND a Subscribe-o-matic signup place? A few of the stores that I belong to offer both.

That's 'join group.'

I'm talking about a subscribo. A subscribo is not a group membership and does not take up a group slot. It's a subscription to receive notices.

To unsubscribe you typically have to go and find the subscribo (not the group joiner - something else) where you originally signed up for it.

That might not be it, but sounds like it could be.

One thing I can add is: the other day I left a group and found that my leaving didn't "take" for a while - maybe about 12 hours, or maybe upon relog, I can't be sure which. I couldn't join another group - it insisted I was at 25 even though I'd left a group - and the group was still listed in my profile, though when I tried to leave it again, it told me I wasn't a member of it.

I've never seen this before, but then I've never tried to join a 25th group immediately after leaving a 25th group, so it may be a well-known problem. At any rate, it fixed itself in about half a day, as I noted.

If this is happening to you, Scorp, the database might be temporarily confused about whether you are still in the group. Try relogging and then give the leaving a day or so to propagate around the servers, if you haven't already.

I got the impression that she went back to the store and clicked whatever the store had for joining a group and she was simply stating that it gave her the regular SL group join stuff rather than the subscribo stuff. At least that is how I read her post, which was why I asked if maybe the store offered both group methods as some do.

Wow, that would be either a bug that has started up or some major lag in updating databases. It did not used to be this way. At least a year or so back, I often was at my limit and would be told so when I tried to join a group. I would then immediately leave a group and immediately join the one I was trying to get in to and it would succeed every time.

Yeah, I still have to do this frequently. I'm sure it worked within the past week without needing to relog or anything. Groups seem to be among the first things to b0rk whenever there's a hint of database stickiness, so that's my hunch.

Actually I did what was asked, I touched the sign that I used to join the group as that was the only sign that I used, there were no other different types of signs there.

Just a note, I'm a "he" not a "she" ;)

Again, thanks for all the help, I've contacted the owner again and she said she'd look into it for me, and if this clears up, I'll surely post with any info.

Happy New Year to all :)
